DVD rumors: a 10th anniversary set for Sports Night?
This news could make Sports Night fans go crazy like … well, people who go crazy and stuff.
TV Shows On DVD is reporting that a 10th anniversary set for the short-lived ABC comedy is in the works, to be released this fall. As fans know, a complete DVD set for the show was already released a few years ago, but it didn’t have any extras on it at all (and I remember that some of the first DVDs had a lot of problems with skipping and freezing, though I’ve never had a problem with my set). This set is rumored to have extras on it, and we can only hope that includes commentaries by the cast and Aaron Sorkin.
No word yet on who is putting it out or even why this set is getting the anniversary treatment (other than it’s a great show and deserves it!). Maybe the success of Felicity Huffman and Brenda Strong on Desperate Housewives helped.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story 2
Who got screwed this year: How did There Will Be Blood only get two nominations? Even American Gangster got listed three times? Blood is mysteriously absent from the Best Original Score (Are you kidding me?), Paul Thomas Anderson’s name isn’t listed under the Best Director nominations, and Blood Star Paul Dano is completely missing from the best supporting actor list.
I would have liked to have seen Sean Penn’s Into The Wild on the Best Picture list, as I don’t quite agree that American Gangster, Atonement or Eastern Promises really deserve to be up there. Where’s David Fincher’s Zodiac? Where’s Michael Moore’s Sicko?
How could the Foreign Press skip over Fox Searchlight’s Once for best original song? And for that matter, how was Once completely forgotten from the Best Musical or Comedy category, as it’s probably the best musical of the year. Similarly, the category doesn’t contain the second and third best comedies of the year: Knocked Up and SuperBad.
Sacha Baron Cohen Cast in Steven Spielberg’s The Trial of the Chicago Seven

The UK’s Sunday Times is reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) has been “persuaded by Steven Spielberg” to play Abbie Hoffman, in the upcoming film The Trial of the Chicago Seven.
Written by Aaron Sorkin, and based on the true story of the seven defendants charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Hoffman was a self-identified Jewish Road Warrior and communo-anarchist. Hoffman became a symbol of youth rebellion and radical activism during the 1970’s. He later committed suicide in 1989. Cohen will reportedly get around $6 million for the film.
Last year at the Sundance Film Festival, I watched a documentary on the subject called Chicago 10. And while I don’t know a lot about Abbie, I’m pretty convinced from the limited archival footage I’ve seen, that Cohen is the perfect person for the role. Who knows when Spielberg will find time to shoot this project, as his plate is pretty full already with post on Indy 4, Tintin, Lincoln and Interstellar.
Aaron Sorkin writes The Trail of the Chicago 7 for Steven Spielberg
I like many people I’ve met was a huge fan of Aaron Sorkin’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Apparently none of us have Nielsen boxes, and the show has been canceled. Sorkin is still very busy in Hollywood, and has signed a deal to write three films for DreamWorks. The first film will be The Trail of the Chicago 7, a drama that Steven Spielberg hopes to one day direct.
The film will focus on the famous 1960’s trials of protesters of the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago. I saw a docudrama on the events at Sundance called Chicago 10. It mixed archival footage with computer animated sequences to show what happened on camera and off. This story is ripe for Aaron’s fast moving dialogue.
