Exclusive: Mary-Kate Olsen Comes to ABC's Samantha Who?

Mary-Kate Olsen

“She started today, and she’s terrific.”

That’s the word from a reliable Samantha Who? insider on the show’s latest guest star: Mary-Kate Olsen.

Christina Applegate, Samantha Who

After a tip-off from on-set sources, ABC has just confirmed that Mary-Kate is shooting an episode of the divine, good-versus-evil comedy this week, playing a character whom Samantha (Christina Applegate) tries to “save.” (Score one for Good Sam.)

I’m told M.K. is only slated to do one episode (airing this fall), and the powers that be are very happy with her performance so far.

Of course, if you saw Mary-Kate tormenting Silas on Weeds last season, you know the girl has serious comedy chops. (Word is she also did some show with a guy named “Uncle Jesse”? Doesn’t ring a bell.)

Men in Trees, James Tupper

And given the recent news that James Yummer, er, Tupper will also appear in the second season, only one question remains: Is it fall yet?! Holler with your Sam Who? anticipation below.

Oops! ABC posts wrong version on Men in Trees online

Men in TreesApparently, ABC has posted the wrong season finale of Men in Trees on their site. The show had filmed two endings: one in case it was renewed and one in case it was canceled. On deciding which ending to use a few months back, executive producer Jenny Bicks said, “One is a little more of a cliffhanger. It may also depend on how we want to end the season regardless. They’re both very effective endings.”

Rob Owen of TV Q&A at the Post Gazette discovered that ABC had posted the “we’re not canceled” cliffhanger ending online by mistake earlier this week. One of his readers asked, “Much to my surprise the episode on the Internet had a different ending than what was shown on TV. It ended with Jack’s ex-girlfriend, Lynn, leaving their baby girl on the doorstep of Marin’s house and driving off.”

Owen confirmed that ABC had indeed posted the wrong ending online for a short time. He also expects that Warner Bros. will save both endings for a DVD release.

Jimmy Kimmel Live renewed through 2010

Jimmy Kimmel Live

Have you noticed that Jimmy Kimmel Live has slowly but surely become a big force at ABC? It doesn’t do Jay Leno numbers, but the ratings have increased in the past few months, the network has given him prime real estate on prime time during the NBA Finals, and there just seems to be a buzz about the show. ABC must have noticed too because they’ve extended Kimmel’s contract through the 2010 season.

This is good news for Kimmel fans, as there has been much talk about what would happen to Kimmel if ABC were to grab Leno after Leno exits his show on NBC and Conan O’Brien takes over. Would Kimmel be pushed to 12:35 if Leno comes aboard, or even later if ABC also decided to keep Nightline? Of course, there’s no word on whether or not this new contract guarantees Kimmel the 12:05am slot. Leno leaves his show in 2009.

I hope Kimmel stays around for a long time. I can’t get into his musical guests, but he has the best monlogue on late night, in my opinion.
