My Name is Earl: Girl Earl - VIDEO

Jon Heder(S03E20) “And Barry Schmo heads home with an empty sack!” - Announcer at Bagging Competition

You would think now that Earl and Billie are married, Earl would expect some changes. Of course, everyone has little annoying habits, but we all know compromise is what makes a marriage work. I have to admit, though, the Van Halen thing would be a deal breaker in my house.

That fact that Earl is already getting irritated by Billie just proves the old adage, “Show me the most beautiful woman in the world and I’ll show you a guy who’s tired of F-ing her.”

I find it a little hard to believe, however, that after being married to a nightmare like Joy, Earl would complain about someone because they’re annoying. Maybe someone should point out that Billie isn’t cheating on him or expecting him to raise kids that aren’t his.

I was surprised to see Jon Heder in this episode, mainly because NBC usually promotes the hell out of a guest star like that. I guess they were too busy talking about the “Finale” of Scrubs.

I enjoyed seeing Heder bag those groceries almost as much as I was horrified by his deformed hand. I’m guessing he went to the hospital but Camden County’s lackluster medical community had nothing to offer. It was also nice to see Jon Henson again. Now I can finally stop asking whatever happened to him.

I didn’t see the bagging training coming and I really enjoyed it. All the inane exercises and how seriously Heder was made it really funny. Of course, Earl eventually got the hang of it. Once again, the good folks of Camden come out to support their favorite “athlete.” I guess the Killerball league didn’t have a game that night.

When I saw Saviero Guerra as the referee, I hoped he would have more to do than wave his flag. It wasn’t much but his line about the web address where he got his license made me laugh out loud. Now I just have to hope that they bring that character back for repeat visits.

Bagger Lance was pretty damn funny. I have always loved Pat Kilbane and there was a time when he was on his way to having his own sitcom. I don’t know what happened but his performance tonight was proof that he still is a very funny dude.

I thought this was a damn good episode. It gave us the basic plot of the karma list while advancing other story lines at the same time. It seems clear things won’t be working out for Earl and Billie, but if the show is going to continue the way it should, that’s probably just as well.

It’s official: Kathie Lee joins Today

Kathie Lee GiffordThree weeks ago it was a hot rumor. Now it’s a fact. NBC announced that Kathie Lee Gifford will co-host the fourth hour of Today beginning Monday, April 7th. She’ll be teaming up with Hoda Kotb for an hour of chit-chat, info, interviews and what have you. I doubt she’ll be singing, but then again, if Kathie Lee can cajole them into rolling a piano onto the set, watch out.

“I am truly honored to join the Today show family, many of whom have been friends and colleagues of mine for years,” said Kathie Lee via release. “And I’m especially looking forward to working with Hoda, a bright and beautiful woman I admire very much. Together I hope we will bring a fresh and fun perspective to the topics that affect all of our daily lives.”

Although Today is not the kind of show to provoke mischief or debate, a la The View, you have to wonder if Kathie Lee has not been brought in to be a bit of a provocateur. After all, in her days side by side with Regis Philbin — pre-Kelly Ripa — there was usually lots of banter and squabbling in a fun and playful way. That may be more of Regis’ schtick, which he continues now with Kelly, but it was part of what made Kathie Lee Gifford interesting.

Jim Bell, Today’s executive producer was talking only about nice times with Kathie Lee when he said, “We are looking forward to her signature warmth and sense of humor in the fourth hour. Her addition to the Today family makes us stronger than ever, and she and Hoda will continue the Today tradition of smart, topical and fun morning television.”

So, I guess then we’ll have to wait and see how the chemistry coalesces, whether it will be happy happy joy joy, or something more volatile. I vote for the latter, but that’s just me.

Lipstick Jungle: Chapter Six: Take the High Road

Lipstick Jungle
(S01E06) “It must feel like a really horrible surprise party” - Kirby to Wendy

I felt sorry for Wendy as I watched about 4/5 of the episode unfold. (I had to tape the episode and the VCR decided to not be my friend and stopped around 45 minutes in! Thanks NBC for complete recaps of the episodes.) Not only did Wendy go to a meeting she didn’t want to go but she had the unpleasant surprise to learn that not only one of her best friend has been lying to her for weeks but that Nico also flew her boy toy half across the world for a booty call!

Somehow I thought that Kirby and Wendy had crossed paths at least once before, so I was surprised for a few seconds when they started chatting in the hotel as if they didn’t know one another. Even the editing at the start of the scene made it feel like Wendy saw him before and that it would be seconds before she sees him and connect the dots. Having them chat while waiting for the beautiful woman and then having Nico walk in was a good set up for the uncomfortable scenes that would follow between Nico and Wendy. They sure said some nasty things to one another. Wendy felt betrayed while Nico wanted to explain that she finally feels good about a relationship (even if she has to hide it). It’s a given that it’ll take a dramatic event (being stuck in the same elevator, Wendy learning that Nico’s husband is also having an affair) to bring the two friends back together.

Since the first episode, I always thought that Nico and Wendy worked for different companies but in the same building. Now it looks like they work for the same company just different division. Why would Wendy want to be the one to announce the Harry Potter prequel scoop to Hector herself if she doesn’t somehow work for him? Plus, the way he orders Wendy to go to Scotland with Nico also makes it sounds like they are part of the same company. Am I mistaken? No matter the answer, I think the show needs to clear things up.

Lipstick JungleWhen Victory’s investor was introduced last week, I got a bad vibe from him. It sounded too good to be true. The man not only has loads of money to spent but he seems to be willing to spend it on everything and anything, no questions asked. The fairy godfather is willing to even breed his own sheep if it means that Victory has the best fabric to work with! No wonder that the investor is willing to please Victory when we know who is really paying for all this! I get that Joe wanted to help his girlfriend but did he really have to do it behind her back? Doesn’t he know by now that secrets like that never stay hidden for long? Even if Victory asked him to sell the company and called it quits, their love story is not over. After all, Andrew McCarthy is a regular character and Joe is not about to be in the same room as the other characters unless required… Maybe he’ll buy Bonfire?

Kristin Cavallari Dons Bikini For “Green Flash”

Kristin Cavallari Dons Bikini For “Green Flash”

Kristin Cavallari has her sights set on success on the big screen - and doesn’t mind showing a little skin to take her there.

The Laguna Beach alum was spotted showing off her bikini body the past few days while on the El Segundo Beach set of her new movie, Green Flash.

The film also stars Baywatch “actor” David Charvet, who takes on the lead role of Cameron Day.

A plot description offered by IMDB informs us: “At the ripe old age of 30, Cameron Day has given up his chances at pro-basketball fame and settled into an aimless life. A chance encounter with a beautiful woman lands him smack in the middle of Southern California’s pro beach volleyball scene. A naturally talented true athlete, he seems destined for sports stardom once again until his old demons start creeping in, threatening his chances at success.”
