Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong: Metal Heads
Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong: Metal Heads
There’s nothing like a loud heavy metal concert to really set the mood for a night of romance. And last night Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong were spotted rocking out together, following their return from Canada.
The “Fool’s Gold” babe and her cycling beau were seen heading over to Madison Square Garden in New York City to see Iron Maiden live in concert. And they didn’t look too happy to see the paparazzi waiting for them.
Kate sported a casual ensemble, including a lacy top underneath a long blue v-neck t-shirt dress with a pair of jeans and a cardigan sweater, while Lance opted for a white button-up shirt and a pair of jeans.
As for their Canadian adventure, the duo were in Waterloo, Ontario over the weekend for a cycling fundraiser to benefit two local hospitals. The “Ride With Lance” event drew 40 participants for the 117-kilometer course. The event raised over $1 million for cancer research.
Celebs Help Cancer Research at Angel Ball
Celebs Help Cancer Research at Angel Ball
Last night marked the 10th annual Angel Ball, put on by Denise Rich and friends to raise money for the G&P Foundation for Cancer Research.
According to Fox news, “She (Denise) stuffed 1,400 people into the Marriott Marquis ballroom, mingling her performers with big A-list names such as Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, Joss Stone and John Legend with Kelly Ripa, Joan Collins, Clive Davis, Bar Refaeli, Petra Nemcova, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Chace Crawford… and so on.”
Denise set the star-studded gala up in memorial to her late daughter, Gabrielle, who died in 1996 at the young age of 27. And as a tribute, Gabrielle’s picture was flashed overhead on a screen at the beginning of the night’s festivities.
At the end of the evening, which cost $1,250 to attend, a grand total of $5 million was raised. Meanwhile, you still can bid on items from the G&P’s silent auction at Charitybuzz.com.

CBS, ABC and NBC to hold cancer telethon; Couric returns to Today
If you watched the network morning shows this morning, you’ve seen the shocking sight of the Big Three evening news anchors — Brian Williams, Katie Couric, and Charlie Gibson — appearing on each show … together! Gasp! How can that happen? Don’t the networks have contract clauses and armies of lawyers to prevent these things from happening?
Well, I guess the lawyers tend to stay home when a good cause is involved. The anchors went on the news shows this morning to announce a cross-network telethon called Stand Up for Cancer Stand Up To Cancer, which will air on NBC, CBS, and ABC on September 5. The one-hour show will have musical performances and testimonials from all three anchors about the need for furthering cancer research (remember Couric’s husband and sister both died from various forms of the disease). Money raised by the telethon will go to a number of organizations and research groups.
It’s rare to see the networks band together like this, especially when it’s not in reaction to an immediate disaster like 9/11 or the tsunami from a few years back; both events generated similar cross-network telethons. But the really interesting thing about the day was seeing Couric on the Today show, almost two years after her departure. There seemed to be a lot of joking around — Matt Lauer kiddingly told her “your time is up” when she tried to interject during a teaser for the next segment — but did anyone notice how little interaction she had with Meredith Vieira? Odd, wasn’t it?
Eva Longoria and Paris Hilton Play For Good
Eva Longoria and Paris Hilton Play For Good
With all the scandal and backstabbing going on in Hollywood these days, it’s reassuring to see celebrities reaching out and helping others. And Eva Longoria and Paris Hilton spent the past few days doing just that.
The Playing for Good Foundation kicked off their first annual International Philanthropic summit on the island of Mallorca, Spain this past weekend. And there were plenty of Hollywood A-listers to lend star power to the effort.
The three-day summit concluded with a ritzy black-tie dinner during which five international charities were recognized for their philanthropic efforts. Eva Longoria played master of ceremonies for the gala.
And Paris Hilton did her part, presenting the award for Charitable Excellence to ASPANOB, a group that contributes to children’s cancer research, patient care, and family support.
All in all, it was a good weekend for those who help the less fortunate.
