Britney Spears is a Boost For CBS
While critics are busy debating the quality of Tuesday night’s television appearance by Britney Spears, the ratings suggest a triumph for the CBS network.
According to press reports, “Monday’s episode of How I Met Your Mother featuring the pop star earned the CBS comedy its highest rating ever - netting a 4.5 preliminary rating among adults 18-49.”
The 4.5 preliminary rating means about 10.6 million eyeballs tuned in to watch the Gimme More singer in action, making HIMYM the fourth-highest-rated show of the evening.
In the episode, Brit played “a receptionist at a dermatologist’s office who develops a crush on a patient played by Josh Radnor.”

Jennie Garth Zipping Back to 90210?
Jennie Garth may be heading for the hillsthe Beverly Hills.
Buzz is mounting that the erstwhile Kelly Taylor may be the first West Beverly High alum to return to the old ZIP code after Garth abruptly pulled out of a CBS comedy pilot that went into production this week.
Last month it was announced that the former Beverly Hills, 90210 fixture had joined the cast of My Best Friend's Girl as a woman who begins to date her ex-husband's best friend.
The gig didn't last long as, per the Hollywood Reporter, Garth and the producers mutually agreed to part ways shortly after completing Monday's table read. No official reason was given for the amicable split, but Garth has recently been dealing with the death of her father, who passed away after she had been cast in the project.
Canadian actress Kristin Booth has since replaced Garth, and with her schedule now free and clear, she is definitely available for the 90210 spinoff.
Last month it was announced that the CW was developing a contemporary spinoff of the seminal teen soap, with Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas heading up the project.
Though Thomas has since put his contribution to the show on the back burner to work on two other series, he remains an executive producer on the pilot and has been attending casting sessions for the series as well as actively recruiting Garth to join the cast, as first reported by Online's TV blog.
No other series alums have yet been cast, though former Runaway thesp Dustin Milligan
was the first actor to sign on to the series last month, starring as Ethan, a popular star athlete.
According to the trade, should Garth reprise her Kelly Taylor persona for the pilot and beyond, the likeable character would likely return as a fashion design teacher at her old alma mater.
Oliver Hudson and Wife Erinn Bartlett Welcome a Son
Oliver Hudson and Erinn Bartlett are first-time parents of a boy, PEOPLE confirms.
Wilder Brooks Hudson was born Aug. 23 in Los Angeles, the couple’s rep said Monday.
“I’m so tired, but I’m on a high, and I want to take in all of it,” Hudson tells E! News.
He said the baby was born a few weeks before the due date.
Hudson, 30, star of the CBS comedy Rules of Engagement, and Bartlett, 34, who appeared in the movies Rumor Has It and Raising Helen, have been married for more than a year.
After a four-year relationship, they were engaged in 2004 and married in June 2006 in Mexico in a beachside ceremony attended by Hudson’s sister Kate Hudson, her then-husband Chris Robinson, their son Ryder, now 3, plus Hudson’s mom Goldie Hawn and her partner, Kurt Russell.
“I want babies,” Oliver Hudson told PEOPLE after his engagement. “I think I’ll be a great dad.”
Britney returning to HIMYM
You can stop the prayer. Your wish has been granted. Britney Spears will be making a return appearance to How I Met Your Mother.
The singer/actress has recently had a high-profile appearance on the CBS comedy as a receptionist who falls for one of the show’s main characters, played by Josh Radnor. The response to her appearance was generally positive.
Watching the clips on the AOL Television site, Britney does give a cute and funny performance. The character she plays is naive, sweet and tries not to offend people. She acted the role well and in the end her character gets taken advantage of by Neil Patrick Harris’s character (sort of).
Britney’s first appearance gave the episode phenomenal ratings. A return appearance was inevitable, particularly given Britney’s real-world problems at the moment (she has a family to support and a lot of lawyer fees to pay). Some positive exposure would undoubtedly be good for the woman.
