VH1 sets the date for Hip-Hop Honors
The fifth annual VH1 Hip-Hop Honors will be taped on October 2nd at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The show will premiere on VH1 the following Tuesday, October 7th. The honorees and performers will be named later this summer. Last year’s celebration paid tribute to A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, WHODINI, Missy Elliott, the film Wild Style and Teddy Riley and Andre Harrell for New Jack Swing with appearances by Mos Def, LL Cool J, Salt-N-Pepa, Ne-Yo, Ciara, Eve, Chris Rock, Busta Rhymes and others.
Of the show, Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager for VH1, says, “Our VH1 Hip Hop Honors has grown into one of the most anticipated events in the hip hop community, drawing legends from back-in-the-day to the hottest stars of the genre today.”
But before the network fetes the innovators of hip-hop, VH1 will tape the 3rd annual Rock Honors on July 12th at the UCLA campus. This year the network is paying tribute to The Who. Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and The Flaming Lips will perform.
Bonnaroo Kicks Out the Jams
One hundred acts on 700 acres can mean only one thing.
It’s time for Bonnaroo, dude.
The four-day festival of music, art, movies and comedy kicks off on Thursday in Manchester, Tenn., and promises a musical experience designed to please, well, almost everyone who likes music, laughter and $7 showers.
Launched in 2002, the festival was largely a gathering of jam bands in the beginning, but has expanded its reach over the years to include performances by Radiohead, the Police and a diverse mix of artists spanning a range of genres.
And since the word “bonnaroo” is said to be Cajun slang for “a really good time,” well, why not?
Acts set to appear this year include Pearl Jam, Metallica, Kanye West, Widespread Panic, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Death Cab for Cutie, The Raconteurs, M.I.A., Vampire Weekend, Yonder Mountain String Band and lots more.
As well, the comedy lineup is as stellar as it is increasingly hard to spell: Chris Rock, Louis C.K., Janeane Garofalo, Brian Posehn and Zach Galifianakis, to name just a few, thankfully.
Unfortunately, we won’t be there, but we’ll likely be checking out the vibes via the AT&T blue room, which plans to stream performances live from the site.
“Bee Movie” Stars Hit London Premiere
“Bee Movie” Stars Hit London Premiere
Renee Zellweger and Jerry Seinfeld continued rolling along on their world press tour for Bee Movie - most recently attending Thursday’s UK premiere.
Held at Empire cinema in London’s Leicester Square, Renee and Jerry posed for pictures and waved to the crowd as they made their way into the theater to watch their animated work.
Created by Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks studio, Bee Movie is “a story is told through the eyes of bee Barry B Benson,” voiced by stand-up comedian Seinfeld. Meanwhile, Zellweger “voices the part of spirited Manhattan florist Vanessa.”
A synopsis of the film tells, “A recent college graduate, Barry wants more out of life than a job at Honex producing honey. He jumps at the chance to venture out of the hive, and soon encounters a world beyond his wildest dreams.”
Joining Zellweger and Seinfeld in Bee Movie are Matthew Broderick, Chris Rock and Kathy Bates.
Who is the funniest person in America?
When you think of funny people in America, who do you immediately think of? Stephen Colbert? Robin Williams? Chris Rock? Matt Stone and Trey Parker? How about David Letterman or Dane Cook?
Some of the people above are on Entertainment Weekly’s list of the 25 funniest people in America (two of the people above aren’t on the list, nor should they be!). Some of the choices are downright baffling (as usual for these lists): Augustun Burroughs? Please. Diablo Cody? Good writer, but one of the funniest in the country based on Juno? But it’s good to see the Sedarises on there (both David and Amy), as well as people like Tina Fey and Demetri Martin. There are even two current cast members of Saturday Night Live on the list. Can you guess who they are?
Once you read the list, you can go into the comments and say “why the hell is _________ on the list?!?”
