Hosts announced for The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game

Kim ColesAs previously announced on TV, both The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game are coming back to TV. Now, they have hosts. GSN has announced that actress Kim Coles will be performing hosting duties for the pilot of The Dating Game while comedian Judy Gold will be hosting The Newlywed Game.

This marks the first time The Newlywed Game will have a female host. Hosts of previous incarnations have included Bob Eubanks (who hosted most of the show’s incarnations), Jim Lange, Paul Rodriguez and Gary Kroeger. The Dating Game has had a previous female host in Elaine Joyce. Other hosts for that show have included Jim Lange, Jeff MacGregor, Brad Sherwood and Chuck Woolery.

GSN Senior VP Programming Jamie Roberts said the network was looking for “unusual candidates to take these shows and reinvent them.”

The original versions of these game shows were known for their sexually suggestive humor. The new versions will incorporate modern concepts such as online dating sites. Having both of these relationship-based game shows hosted by comedic women will create an interesting spin that might be fun to watch.

Newlywed Game and Dating Game coming back to TV

Newlywed GameI used to watch both The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game when I was a kid, and it wasn’t until years later that I realized how filthy both of them were. Both would have all of these double entendres and suggestive questions, and the answers from the contestants were often something you wouldn’t even say to a friend in private. Example from The Newlywed Game:

Bob Eubanks: “Where’s the weirdest place that you and your husband have made whoopee?”
Woman: “In the a**?”

Now, this wasn’t shown on TV until Eubanks showed the clip on an episode of NBC’s Most Outrageous Moments a few years ago (the original answer was never shown on TV and the woman was given a chance to give another answer, and another contestant gave a similar answer years earlier), but many of the questions and answers were suggestive in that way.

I wonder if they’ll have those type of questions in the new GSN remakes? The cable network is bringing back both shows. Of course, they’ll both be updated in this age of computers and microwave ovens. The Dating Game will team up with Match.com to find single people to go on the show, and The Newlywed Game will feature a bonus round where the winning couple goes up against a couple who won on the older version of the show.

This will be the sixth version of The Newlywed Game. Eubanks hosted the original (he also hosted a later revival of the show), and then other versions were hosted by Jim Lange, Paul Rodriguez, and Gary Kroeger. The Newlywed Game was produced by Chuck Barris, and Barris created/produced The Dating Game.

Ugly Betty: Betty’s Baby Bump

Ana Ortiz and Eddie Cibrian
(S02E16) Things are finally coming into place on Ugly Betty. Wili officially declared war on the Meades, Betty dealt with serious baby drama, and Hilda got back into the dating game (almost). If this keeps up, the show will be back to its old self–Wili scheming, Betty working with Daniel against her, and an end to the Suarez family mourning period. Sounds good to me!

Things didn’t really get going until the second half of the episode. I loved Claire for pinching Betty and bringing her back into reality. Betty’s grown a lot since the show began, and bending over backwards for Charlie was Season One Betty. Our girl knows better; you can be optimistic and in touch with reality at the same time. No amount of party planning was going to change the fact that Betty wasn’t happy about this baby’s arrival. She was crying at the baby’s birth, but not out of joy.

I’ve been waiting forever for the Wili-surrogate storyline to pay off, and the big moment finally happened. Wili dropped the bomb on the Meades in typical diva fashion. The only thing missing was Marc in the background making snide comments. It’s about time Wilhelmina returned to the Mode offices. There’s wasn’t a lot of action at Mode this week; most the scenes were set elsewhere in Manhattan or at the Suarez house. The writers even tried to force Amanda into the baby shower scenes. No thanks. I’m ready for some office drama! I want to see Amanda and Marc arm-in-arm once again.

Thank goodness for Eddie Cibrian. Coach Diaz made the first half of the episode bearable by giving me something to look at. This budding relationship reminded me a lot of a certain Freaks and Geeks episode, but at least they imitated a great show. I’d give anything to watch Justin work his choreography magic on his school’s cheerleaders, by the way.

I was a little bored with Daniel’s trip to the therapist and subsequent downward spiral, but I’m happy with how things ended up. He and Wili are at odds again, and Wili will be resuming her campaign for the editor-in-chief position. Things are exactly as they were at the start of the series, but with a few key differences. Daniel has rededicated himself to Mode and is far more interested in keeping his job. Round Two of Meade vs. Slater is almost shaping up to be a fair fight.

My favorite line of the night:

“When I march up the steps of the Meade building, it’ll be the best comeback since…Jesus.” –Wilhelmina Slater

Next week–The battle for Meade Publications is on, and Gio plants a kiss on Betty.

Could Jennifer Aniston Be Dating Again?

Could Jennifer Aniston Be Dating Again?

We’ve all been holding out hope that Jennifer Aniston would find an awesome guy.  She is such a sweetheart, and when Brad Pitt set sail for Jolie Island, it was difficult to watch Jen try to cope.

Now it seems that she may be back in the dating game.  She’s been single since her split with Vince Vaughn last October, but that’s all about to change.  Over Memorial Day weekend, Jen was spotted frolicking around Santa Monica with a new beau.

Aniston, 38, spent last Saturday night at the One Pico restaurant in the Shutters Hotel, a very romantic setting, indeed.  Jen and her mystery man had reservations for 8:00.  While they waited for their table, Jen received a backrub from her date.  Even during dinner (which lasted for 3 hours) she didn’t take her eyes off of him, reported a witness.

“[Jennifer] is doing so good,” longtime friend Kathy Najimy recently told People. “She’s fantastic. Couldn’t be better.” Could it be that finally Jen has found a nice guy to take care of her?
