Halle Berry: Maxin’ and Relaxin’
Halle Berry: Maxin’ and Relaxin’
With the stress of newfound motherhood, as well as a constantly beckoning movie career, Halle Berry decided to treat herself to a day of rest and relaxation.
The “Monster’s Ball” babe was spotted on her way to the celebrity-friendly Kinera Spa in Los Angeles earlier today looking like she was ready to let all of her tension melt away.
Miss Berry kept it casual in a sleeveless v-neckline white and grey minidress along with a pair of basic flip flops, celebrity shades, and an oversized handbag.
In related news, earlier this week at the 2008 BET Awards, Halle took home the award for Best Actress, while fellow Oscar winner Denzel Washington snagged the Best Actor honors.
Famous Friends (and Naomi Campbell) Fete Mandela
Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday bash isn’t until Friday, but celebs are already flocking to London to fete the former South African president.
Will Smith (who’s emceeing Friday’s event) and Jada Pinkett Smith were just two boldfaced names in attendance at a prebirthday dinner party held in Hyde Park. Also on the list: Oprah Winfrey, Uma Thurman, Forest Whitaker, Kim Cattrall and Denzel Washington.
And yes, Naomi Campbell will be in the house on Friday.
Despite reports that the birthday boy had banned the supermodel from introducing some of the performers after her airport arrest, her rep says that was never the plan.
“To my knowledge, she has always just been a guest,” he told News.
One trainwreck who is allowed on stage at the soiree? Amy Winehouse. The troubled singer is slated to sing, as well as Leona Lewis, Queen and Annie Lennox.
It will be Amy’s first performance since her hospitalization last week.
Jet-Setting Jessica Biel
Jet-Setting Jessica Biel
Following a brief trip to Los Angeles to support her sweetie Justin Timberlake as he premiered “The Love Guru” earlier this week, Jessica Biel was spotted heading back to the East Coast yesterday.
The “Summer Catch” hottie made her way through the LAX International Airport terminal on her way back to the Connecticut set of her current project “Nailed.”
And she looked cute with a new darker hairdo (complete with bangs) sporting a grey top, brown leather jacket and a pair of vintage-style jeans with beige buckled flats.
With his lady out of town again, Timberlake joined a slew of celebrities (including Jack Nicholson, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, David Beckham, and Fergie) cheering on the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 or the NBA Finals. But it wasn’t enough, as the Boston Celtics won their third game in the series 97-91.
A&E picks up Swayze series
Let me start this story by saying that I’m really hoping and praying that Patrick Swayze staves off the cancer that’s trying to kill him and lives for many more years. The powers that be at A&E Network are hoping and praying, too. A&E has given the greenlight to The Beast, a cop drama that will star Patrick Swayze. Co-starring with Patrick in the 13 one-hour episodes is actor (and former Calvin Klein underwear model) Travis Fimmel. According the the doctors caring for Patrick, he is well enough to do the shows and, presumably, continue with the series if it’s a success.
The premise for The Beast isn’t a typical law and order type. It’s like Training Day meets Internal Affairs, only without Denzel Washington and Richard Gere, respectively. Patrick plays an FBI agent who does things his own unique way. He’s very good at his job, but rubs people the wrong way. He’s asked to train a younger agent, Fimmel, at the same time that Swayze’s being dogged by a secret internal affairs team.
Patrick has said this role was a long time coming for him. “I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this muti-layered, unpredictable and downright entertaining as well as a project this current and cutting-edged.”
The show is set to begin filming in Chicago this summer; it will air in 2009. The pilot was written by the same guy who wrote the movie Breach, William Rotko, in collaboration with Vincent Angell (NCIS). Michael Dinner, a veteran TV director with credits like Wonder Years, Chicago Hope and more recently, Bionic Woman and Kidnapped, will be a co-executive producer and direct the pilot.
One more thought: it would seem logical that A&E has insurance to protect their investment in this project in case Swayze is not able to do all 13 hours. I respect and admire Patrick’s determination to continue working. It will be sad, however, to see him changing before our eyes like the late Michael Landon did when succumbing to the same catastrophic illness. Perhaps today’s advances in chemotherapy and radiation will give Swayze years to come rather than months.
