Charlize Theron Stands By Her Man

Charlize Theron Stands By Her Man

Having a girlfriend as beautiful, successful, and famous as Charlize Theron comes with its advantages.  Just ask Stuart Townsend.

For the W Magazine screening party for his directorial debut “Battle in Seattle” over the weekend, the Irish actor/writer/director had the prettiest woman in the house on his arm.

And Miss Theron looked amazing in a black tiered halter-style dress with a pair of strappy black heels and dangly turquoise earrings as she posed for the paparazzi with her man, also dressed in black.

Also in attendance was “Fool’s Gold” hottie Matthew McConaughey along with his soon-to-be-baby-mamma Camilla Alves, both looking stellar as usual.

“Battle in Seattle” hits theaters in limited release on September 19th and also stars Woody Harrelson, Andre Benjamin, Channing Tatum, Ray Liotta, and Michelle Rodriguez.

Courteney Cox’s New Role: Director!

David Arquette, Courteney Cox Arquette

Life goes on for Courteney Cox.

With the recently cancelled Dirt now history, Cox has gone behind the camera to direct The Monday Before Thanksgiving, a short for Glamour magazine’s Reel Moments film series, according to her hubby David Arquette.

“It’s amazing,” Arquette told me of his wife’s work last night at the premiere of his new short, The Butler’s in Love. “It’s family-related and involves a story that’s close to her heart.”

Cox follows in the footsteps of her best friend, Jennifer Aniston, who made her directorial debut at Reel Moments two years ago with Room 10, a drama costarring Robin Wright Penn and Kris Kristofferson. (Reps for Cox and Glamour declined to comment; an official announcement is expected sometime next month.)

As for David’s movie, it’s the first flick produced by the French Absinthe brand Le Tourment Vert’s new production company. The Butler’s in Love is based on a painting by artist Mark Stock that hangs in Bix, the San Francisco restaurant where Arquette and Cox held their rehearsal dinner the night before their wedding.

The work shows a butler holding up a glass with a lipstick stain and bottle of absinthe on a side table. “We didn’t have any absinthe at our wedding,” Arquette said with a laugh. “But I never forgot about the painting. I think of the romance behind it.”

The movie is also in 3-D, which explains the wacky plastic green glasses everyone was wearing in the theater, including Arquette and Cox’s adorable four-year-old daughter, Coco.

“You have to give them back,” Arquette said of the glasses. “It’s all about recycling.”

Also helping Arquette celebrate the premiere were siblings Patricia, Rosanna, Alexis and Richmond, Butler costars Elizabeth Berkley and Jennifer Siebel and 30 Rock’s Jack McBrayer.

Helen Hunt’s Family Day at the Beach

Helen Hunt’s Family Day at the Beach

Showing off her six pack abs, Helen Hunt was all smiles during a Thursday afternoon trip to the beach in Venice, California.

Accompanied by daughter Makena Lei and boyfriend Matthew Carnahan, the “As Good As It Gets” actress kept busy building sand castles with her daughter in between brief sunning sessions.

As for her career in film, Hunt is in the middle of the worldwide release of her directorial debut film, “The She Found Me”.

Out in the States in limited release beginning last month, the film tells the story of “a New York schoolteacher hitting a midlife crisis when, in quick succession, her husband leaves, her adoptive mother dies and her biological mother, an eccentric talk show host, materializes and turns her life upside down as she begins a courtship with the father of one of her students.”

Madonna’s Directorial Debut

Madonna’s Directorial Debut

With the film festival season raging on, one Material Girl stood head and shoulders above the rest in Berlin on Wednesday - Madonna.

The “Like a Virgin” singer is enjoying the premiere her new movie “Filth and Wisdom” at the 2008 Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, and it has been her most positive foray into film yet.

During an interview, Madge told press, “I have always been inspired by the films of Godard, Visconti, Pasolini and Fellini and hope that I may one day make something that comes close to their genius.”

In the liner notes to “Filth and Wisdom” Madonna wrote, “I have always admired the art of filmmaking and the ability to tell a good story.  After almost three decades of being in front of a camera, I decided to put my money where my mouth is. ‘Filth and Wisdom’ was essentially my way of putting myself through film school.”
