Steven Spielberg And Peter Jackson To Co-Direct Third Tintin Movie?

It is well known that Steven Spielberg will be directing the first movie in the Tintin trilogy, and Peter Jackson will take over for the second outing. However, people have been wondering for quite a while now who will be sat in the directors chair for the third film. As the films will involve 3D motion capture technology, names such as Robert Zemeckis and James Cameron have been thrown around, but it seems that Spielberg already knows how it will play out.
While on his Indy rounds, he talked to Stuff.co.uk,
“We are going to make three ‘Tintin’ movies back-to-back,” Spielberg said. “I’ll direct the first one, Peter will direct the second one. We’ll probably co-direct the third one.”
Two of the greatest directors of our time working on a trilogy together was something, but for them BOTH to be working on the same movie will be amazing!
Filming on the first film is expected to begin later this year, with a release date set for sometime in 2009. As they are filming back to back we could be seeing the third movie something in 2011/12.
Naomie Harris And Rick Yune Join Ninja Assassin

The Hollywood Reporter have announced that Naomie Harris and Rick Yune have joined Ninja Assassin. The film is apparently filming as you read this, and is being produced by Speed Racer directors, the Wachowski Brothers. V for Vendetta director James McTeigue will be sat in the directors chair, for what apparently is an original film. No comic books, no graphic novels, no novel, no anything. A writer has actually been paid to use his imagination for once!
The title of the film is a good indication of what we may get, producer Joel Silver has described it as a “full on martial arts movie.” He also says it’s has the theme of revenge running through it.
It certainly sounds interesting. Naomie Harris is best known for her role as Tia Dalma in the Pirates of the Caribean trilogy. She has also appeared in the amazing 28 Days Later and more recently, Street Kings.
Rick Yune is best known for being a Bond villain in Die Another Day, who had the unfortunate (or fortunate depending on how you look at it) accident involving diamonds blowing up in his face, and embedding themselves there.
Rick Yune spoke of his role:
“Not to give too much away, (but) my character stays within what he was brought up with, and they go up against each other,” Yune said. “I’m not a heavy. The characters are ninjas, they are assassins, and there’s this mix of morality the Wachowskis are exploring.”
Warner Brothers have yet to announce a release date, but I’m guessing we will see this sometime in 2009.
Spielberg Now Directing First Tintin Movie! Serkis Confirmed As Captain Haddock!
It seems there has been quite a big a shake up on the upcoming Tintin trilogy. It was thought that Peter Jackson would be directing the first movie after he had finished work on The Lovely Bones, but it now appears that is not the case and Spielberg will be the man in the directors chair for the first outing. This could be due to a number of reasons, but the one that sticks out is that Peter Jackson may want to get started on The Hobbit now the writers strike is over. It may also explain why Spielberg’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 has been delayed. This information comes from actor Andy Serkis, who spoke to IndieLondon about the films. Serkis, who has worked with Peter Jackson before on a number of films such as King Kong and Lord Of The Rings, also confirmed that he will be playing Captain Haddock.
Q. Are you going to be reuniting with Peter Jackson again for Tintin?
Andy Serkis: In fact tomorrow I’m flying out to start on Tintin. Steven Spielberg is directing the first one, and then Peter Jackson is doing the second. The bulk of the shoot starts in September but things got a little bit moved around after the writers’ strike.Q. Were you at all worried when Peter first got back in touch that having played Gollum and King Kong, he might ask you to play Snowy the dog?
Andy Serkis: [laughs] Absolutely, in fact people assume that I am, which is even more disturbing [he’s playing Captain Haddock].
‘Superman: Man Of Steel’ Moving Forward!
The status of Superman: Man Of Steel was unknown after the Justice League movie started developing. Would the ‘less than expected’ performance of Superman Returns mean that Warner Brothers would rather lump him in the Justice League movie, rather than spend another $200 million on his own venture? Well today we have got some news that clears a few things up. First IESB got word that Bryan Singer was back in the directors chair, but writers Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris were out. Some people though that Superman Returns lacked action. So who else better to replacing them than the writers of Transformers, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. This is currently speculation and nothing has been confirmed yet.
Meanwhile over at Empire, Bryan Singer had a few words to say on the project:
“I’m just getting back with writers after the strike. We’re just in the development phase. I’m starting to develop a sequel…with the intention of directing it”
About the negative reaction to the first film’s focus on the drama instead of the action, Singer added, “The first one was a romantic film and a nostalgic film… And now that the characters are established, there’s really an opportunity to up the threat levels….Clearly there’ll be a body count [laughs]. From frame one, it will be unrelenting terror! All those teenage girls who found the movie and mooned over James Marsden or Brandon? Well, I’m going to wake them up!””
In my opinion we didn’t need the characters to be established. Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor have been around for decades, we didn’t really need an introduction to them as around 90% of people know who they were already. Hopefully Singer can learn from his mistakes and make Man Of Steel better on all levels.
