DMX Literally Lands in Jail
DMX is making a point of getting to know the bars everywhere he goes.
The beleaguered rapper was arrested for the third time in two weeks Wednesday when he landed in Phoenix and deplaned right into the cold embrace of an outstanding warrant issued when he, among other things, missed a court hearing.
DMX was flying in from Florida, where he was busted twice last weekon June 23 for driving with an invalid license and then four days later for allegedly trying to purchase marijuana and cocaine from an undercover cop.
Today’s bust at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix was for the skipped court appearance, which pertained to his pending animal-cruelty and drug-possession case, and his run-ins with the cops last week, which violated the terms of his bail.
It’s possible that the Cradle 2 the Grave star may have pressed his luck one too many times. His lawyer said today that his client could have to remain locked up until his next court datewhich might not come for months.
“He was supposed to be in court today in Arizona, but he was picked up as soon as he arrived,” DMX’s attorney, Murray Richman, told MTV News. “The arrest was a result of him being arrested in Florida. That arrest violated the strict conditions of his $7,500 bond in Arizona, which stated that he could not be arrested while on bail.”
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, pleaded not guilty in May to 11 counts of animal cruelty and drug possession for allegedly mistreating a number of pit bulls found at his Arizona home and having marijuana around the house when the cops showed up to search his property.
“I believed that we had a good, viable defense in that case,” Richman said, “but I’m sorry to say that Earl played into their hands when he got arrested for driving without a license and for being in a drug-prone area, which violated the terms of his bail.”
Tatum O’Neal Cops to Bad Conduct, Gets Wrist Slapped
Crime may not pay, but for Tatum O’Neal, it doesn’t exactly cost all that much, either.
The former wild child actress has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct stemming from her June crack bust. Prosecutors in turn dropped more serious charges, including drug possession.
To atone for her misdoing, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Elisa Koenderman sentenced the youngest ever Oscar winner to spend two half-day sessions in a drug-treatment program and pay a $95 fee.
Should the 44-year-old Rescue Me star make good on both conditions of her sentence by Sept. 4, when she’s due back in court, the case against her will be dismissed.
O’Neal turned down a nearly identical deal from prosecutors last month in which they offered her the chance to plead guilty to disorderly conduct and spend two days in a treatment. No word on what caused the change of heart.
DMX Busted Again, Again
DMX can run, but he can’t hide from trouble. Especially if he walks right up to it and demands it kick his butt.
The rapper, who’s currently facing animal-cruelty charges in Arizona, was arrested Friday afternoon in Miami after he allegedly tried to buy drugs from an undercover cop.
According to the police report obtained by the Miami Herald, DMX approached the officer and asked for ’’30 powder and 15 weed,” aka $30 worth of cocaine and $15 of marijuana.
The officer slapped the cuffs on the Cradle 2 the Grave star, whose real name is Earl Simmons, after he handed him $45.
Authorities said that they have not released the exact location where the bust took place because undercover officers are still operating in the area.
As of Friday evening, DMX was cooling his heels in Miami-Dade County jail.
And it turns out that this was his second bust of the week. Miami police also nabbed him Monday for driving with a suspended license. He was taken into custody at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and released a few hours later after posting $500 bail.
Back in Arizona, the beleaguered MC has pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of animal cruelty and drug possession stemming from two raids at his Phoenix-area home in which SWAT teams found marijuana and a number of pit bull puppies that required immediate veterinary care for malnutrition and dehydration.
Amy Winehouse Has More Drug Drama
Amy Winehouse Has More Drug Drama
Here’s a shocker. Amy Winehouse is in the news again. And it’s for all the wrong reasons.
The “Rehab” singer was reportedly arrested on suspicion of drug possession yesterday, during a stay in Norway.
She was released this morning after paying a €500 (US $714) fine and went on her way. Winehouse is in the middle of a European tour, with 27 dates scheduled.
It’s her first outing since she overdosed this past August. Amy plans on carrying on with the tour, gearing up for a gig in the Netherlands this weekend. Let’s just hope she says away from the “coffee shops” in Amsterdam.
