News regarding this season’s Doctor Who finale
Usually we here at TV try not to post news when we don’t have an online article as reference (except perhaps in the Spoilers Anonymous columns), but this is one I couldn’t pass up. Plus, it will give Doctor Who fans a head’s up with regards to this season’s finale.
According to Doctor Who Magazine (and repeated on several Doctor Who message boards online), the finale of Season Four (”Journey’s End”) is going to be 65 minutes in length, as opposed to the usual 45 or 50 minute length of the season’s episodes so far. This length, of course, deals with the original broadcast on the BBC and not the American broadcast.
The question is: when it airs eventually on the Sci Fi Channel in America, what will the network do? Will they allocate extra time for the broadcast (as I hope they will) or simply cut the episode to bits? The Sci Fi Channel has cut down the time of Doctor Who episodes before, most notably with the Season Three finale “Last of the Time Lords”, the original length of which clocked in at 52 minutes.
Tentative Spider-Man 4 Release Date!
Spider-Man 4 has a new tentative release date, but don’t expect it anytime soon. According to Spider-Man executive producer Laura Ziskin, the web-slinger should be back in theaters in May… of 2011.
In remarks Thursday to theater owners from California and Nevada, Ziskin said there was no finished screenplay, but that she and Sony Pictures were hopeful “Spider-Man 4” could be ready in three years’ time.
The first three movies comprise one of the most successful franchises in modern Hollywood history, grossing a combined $2.5 billion worldwide. Neither star Tobey Maguire nor director Sam Raimi is yet committed to work on the next installment. But Sony has paid Marvel to renew its rights.
Hopefully, the extra time to think and plot will help make a better movie that SM3!
Penny-Pinching Christina Ricci
Penny-Pinching Christina Ricci
Now that bikini season is well underway, women all over the world are spending a little extra time making sure their beach body is bangin. And Christina Ricci was spotted on her way to break a sweat yesterday.
The “Buffalo 66″ actress sported a black tank top, black cutoff shorts and a pair of trendy New Balance sneakers as she made her way to the gym for an hour-long workout with a gal pal.
And unlike her Hollywood female contemporaries, Ricci says she’d rather save her money than go on elaborate vacations and shopping sprees.
The “Speed Racer” cutie told press, “I like shopping but I don’t like spending. I have trouble parting with my money. I’m not being very frivolous right now. In the past it was shoes. But right now I’m not buying clothes. I’m saving. I’m at that point where I feel like an adult - so I can’t just live from paycheck to paycheck.”
As for her absence from the Tinseltown party scene, Christina explained, “If someone is having a birthday party or something then I will go out, but I partied in my early twenties and I’m kind of over it now. I like nice quiet dinners and parlor games!”
Tina Fey’s Daughter Is Growing Up Fast
As the writers’ strike wears on, Tina Fey gets to spend a lot more time with her 2-year-old daughter Alice – and is finding out just how grown-up the little one is becoming.
“She’s hilarious,” Fey, 37, tells PEOPLE. “She’s really starting to talk in full sentences, and she has her opinions and she’s a little bit learning how to lie.
“She’s at this age where I’ll say, ’I have to change your diaper,’ and she’ll say, ’No, no, because it’s all gone. Diaper all gone.’ And I’ll say, ’That’s a lie.’ Or I’ll say, ’Eat your vegetables,’ and she’ll say, ’No, I can’t, they’re dirty.’ She’s a very funny, sweet kid.”
PEOPLE spoke with Fey and her husband, Jeff Richmond, at “An Evening With 30 Rock,” a panel discussion with the NBC show’s cast Thursday night inside New York’s Puck Building and sponsored by the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Richmond, a composer, also remarked on Alice’s precociousness – in particular, her expanding taste in music.
“She likes Mary Poppins,” said Richmond, 47. “She sings ’Just a Spoonful of Sugar,’ that’s her tour de force. … We were trying to teach her some Amy Winehouse the other day – just the ’No, no, no’ part.”
Knows Anderson Cooper
It also sounds like Alice, who was born in September 2005, is already brushing up on world events, with some help from CNN.
“Oh yeah, she topical,” Richmond said. “She can’t differentiate between all the colors – even though she knows all the color names – but she knows who Anderson Cooper is.”
On the subject of the strike, Fey said she wants to be working again – but is thankful to have the extra time to spend with her family.
“I have 1,000 percent more time with Alice,” she said. “I’m as tired as I was when I was working, because a 2-year-old will wear you out, but that’s the only blessing in this strike situation for me.”

In remarks Thursday to theater owners from California and Nevada, Ziskin said there was no finished screenplay, but that she and Sony Pictures were hopeful “Spider-Man 4” could be ready in three years’ time.
