Winehouse Out of the Sick House

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse is out. Time will tell if behavioral changes are in.

A rep for the “Rehab” singer confirms to News that the 24-year-old was officially discharged as a patient from the London Clinic yesterday after a whirlwind stay, which included a diagnosis of early stages of emphysema and two days out to perform at various gigs around England.

“I can confirm that Amy has left the London Clinic and will be treated as an outpatient,” Tracey Miller said.

As an outpatient, Winehouse is expected to return to the hospital for regular checkups. Despite her father’s initial public diagnosis of emphysema, Winehouse’s camp later clarified the singer is suffering from early-stage symptoms of the chronic respiratory disease.

Winehouse was first admitted to the hospital last month after suffering a fainting spell at her home. She was apparently deemed well enough to be excused from the ward on two high-profile occasions, which had two rather varied rates of success.

The first saw a healthy-looking Winehouse take the stage at Nelson Mandela’s special 90th birthday concert, in which she sang two slur-free tunes before returning to the clinic.

The second was more in line with a performance fans have come to expect from the Grammy winner, and took place over the weekend at England’s famed Glastonbury festival. After her performance, a concertgoer threw a hat at her head and, after mistakenly identifying the offending chapeau tosser, Winehouse lashed out and belted a seemingly innocent fan. All of which was, in the great British tabloid tradition, caught on tape.

On the bright side, things can only get better.

Amy Winehouse’s Mystery Ailment Not TB

UPDATE: Speaking to News Friday, a rep for the singer denies reports that Amy Winehouse has a life-threatening ailment.

“Our official statement from last night still stands: ’Amy has undergone more scans and tests today and we are awaiting the verdict of her doctors,’ ” says publicist Tracey Miller.

“I can confirm that Amy does have a chest infection, she is not coughing blood, she doesn’t have TB, and she is still in the hospital undergoing more tests and following the directions of her doctors. I will let you know if we have any further updates.”

Amy Winehouse’s fainting spell has her doctors stumped.

The “Rehab” chanteuse has been hospitalized since blacking out Monday, and doctors at the London facility where she’s being treated are conducting further tests, her publicist said, to get to the bottom of what ails her before she resumes performing later this month.

The 24-year-old soul diva is among the headliners at a June 27 London concert celebrating the 90th birthday of former South African president Nelson Mandela. The next day she’s due to take the stage at the U.K.’s Glastonbury music festival.

While her spokeswoman insists those shows are still a go, they could be called off should doctors deem it necessary for her recovery.

Winehouse’s father, Mitch, who drove his daughter to the clinic, told London’s Telegraph that his daughter will remain hospitalized “as long as possible” until her physicians determine a proper diagnosis.

“Amy is doing fine,” he added.

Winehouse’s camp denied a report by the Sun tabloid she was suffering from an irregular heartbeat and that she was ordered by doctors to clean up her act and quit drugs or risk dying.

Winehouse Still in the Ward

Amy Winehouse appears to be just what the doctor ordered.

The troubled singer remained hospitalized overnight after suffering a mysterious fainting spell at her London home Monday and will continue to undergo tests today to determine the cause of her brief blackout.

“She’s staying there for the time being,” her London rep said. “They are still not quite sure what happened, and the tests were inconclusive.”

“She seems to be fine in herself, but they are taking their time to be sure.”

The 24-year-old “Rehab” singer was rushed to the London Clinic by her father, Mitch, yesterday afternoon as a “precaution” following her collapse, despite the fact the songbird was said to have “quickly recovered” after fainting.

Her manager’s assistant was with her at the time and prevented Winehouse from falling.

She is expected to perform as planned at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebration concert in London June 27.
