Miley Gets Some Action in Nashville

Miley Cyrus

In case Miley Cyrus has been missing her Disneyfied alter ego while recording her first all-Miley album, she’s in luck.

Production has kicked off on Hannah Montana: The Movie, which will be filming in and around Nashville, the Walt Disney Co. announced Thursday.

Cyrus had previously told News she would be forgoing the average 15-year-old’s summer pursuitsboys, mall, beach, boysin favor of completing her feature-length film. (She probably won’t be giving up iced mochas anytime soon, though.)

The movie, which is slated for release in spring 2009, also features Hannah Montana regulars Emily Osment, Jason Earles, Mitchel Musso, Moises Arias and, of course, ubiquitous papa Billy Ray Cyrus.

While it will be her scripted big-screen debut, Cyrus already has a decent, albeit short, track record.

This year’s 3-D release Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour took in $65.3 million at the box officeand would have made more if theaters had charged movigegoers by the word.

Fred Durst’s The Longshots Movie Trailer

Longshots

I bet when everyone first heard Fred Durst scream the chorus of his rendition of George Michael’s late ’80s hit “Faith”, they had no idea he would someday make a feature-length film, never-mind two. Yes, TWO - he also helmed a indie drama titled The Education of Charlie Banks, which won an award at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. The Limp Biscuit frontman’s second film, The Longshots, tells the true story of Jasmine Plummer who, at the age of eleven, became the first female to play in Pop Warner football tournament in its 56-year history. Written by the writers of Akeelah and the Bee and Prison Break, The Longshots stars Ice Cube and will hit theaters on July 25th 2008 from Dimension Films. It seems like the typical sports drama, but, who knew Fred Durst could direct a movie? Check out the trailer below and tell me what you think.

The Onion: Chuck Berry Remembers Call From Enchantment Under The Sea Dance

Iron Man Movie Trailer was to be Adapted Into a Feature-Length Film, and now news that Chuck Berry Remembers the infamous call from his Cousin About a White Kid Playing Johnny B. Goode.

In a shocking revelation that turns a half century of rock-and-roll history on its head, legendary musician Chuck Berry recalled Monday how he got the idea for his iconic song “Johnny B. Goode”—believed for decades to have been written by Berry himself—after listening to a white teenager playing it over the telephone. “I’ll never forget that night back in 1955 when I got the call from [cousin] Marvin [Berry] saying, ‘Chuck, this is that sound you’ve been looking for!’” recounted Berry, explaining that his cousin was playing an “Enchantment Under The Sea”–themed high school dance when the mysterious teen, Calvin Klein, took to the stage and single-handedly invented rock and roll as we now know it. “Marvin held up the phone and I heard the song that would make me famous. Then I stole it.”

DreamWorks to Make Live-Action Ghost in the Shell Movie in 3D

Ghost in the Shell

DreamWorks has acquired rights to the Japanese postcyberpunk manga Ghost in the Shell after Steven Spielberg took personal interest in the popular anime property. Variety reports that the studio plans to develop Shell into a 3D live-action feature-length film. Created by Masamune Shirow (Appleseed), Ghost in the Shell was first published in 1989 in Young Magazine. Over the years the manga has been adapted into three anime films, two anime television series, and three PlayStation video games.

According to Wikipedia, the futuristic police thriller follows the exploits of Motoko Kusanagi, a member of the covert operations section of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, Section 9, which specializes in fighting technology-related crime. Kusanagi is capable of superhuman feats, and bionically specialized for her job — her body is almost completely mechanized; only her brain and a segment of her spinal cord are organic. I have never seen Ghost in the Shell, but the concept sounds like it could make a really cool live-action film.

And while Spielberg was instrumental on getting this project done at DreamWorks, he’s not attached to the project in any official capacity (at least as far as I can tell… may-be he’s executive producer?). Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul will produce, and Street Kings screenwriter Jamie Moss has been hired to pen the adaptation.

I have included the movie trailer for Ghost in a Shell 2: Innocence below for your viewing pleasure.
