Keri Russell Is Enjoying Family Life

Former Felicity star Keri Russell has backed her way out of the spotlight ever since becoming pregnant with her now 5-month-old son River.

The 31-year-old actress recently spoke to Parade magazine, filling staff writer James Brady in on how things have been going now that she’s married and tending to her little prince.

At the start of the interview, Keri told, “My husband came home early so I could meet you. I don’t have an aversion to nannies or baby-sitters, but in these early months there’s a control aspect to a baby—you want to do everything.”

Following a four year run on television, Keri took a few years off to relax and enjoy Greenwich Village. Since that time, she’s taken supporting roles in Mission: Impossible III, The Upside of Anger and a few other films before moving on to leading roles in Waitress and two upcoming films: August Rush, which is due out this month, and The Girl in the Park.

Yet, now that her son has been born, it looks like Keri is once again staying away from the set - this time to enjoy family life and help out with the construction of her new house.

When asked what she would do if a big offer came her way, Keri told, “With River so little and Shane (her husband) working on our new house, the offer would have to be terrific, perfect.”

Last night, “August Rush” premiered at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City.  And Keri Russell was in the house to promote her new film.

The “Felicity” actress was dressed in an all-black ensemble.  She wore a scoop-neck three-quarter-length dress, with a tied belt and open-toed heels.  Her hair was swept back into an up ‘do, and she embodied the “classic clean” look with minimal makeup.

Russell plays a “sheltered young cellist who has a chance encounter with an Irish guitarist, leaving her pregnant,” in the film.  Her child is orphaned and becomes an incredible child prodigy musician.

“August Rush” also stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Robin Williams, and Freddie Highmore.  The film opens November 21st nationwide.

She was in NYC Sunday night for the premiere of “August Rush,” and it looks like Keri Russell never made it out of the Big Apple.

The “Felicity” actress was at MTV studios yesterday for an appearance on Total Request Live.  Then this morning she chatted up her new movie with the folks over at the Today Show.

And while her TV/film career is the most obvious thing we see about her, Keri recently became a mother- a step that has changed her live considerably.

She told press, “I’ll definitely bring him to sets….though I’ve been in denial, thinking I wouldn’t need help, but I guess I will. It’s just the idea of someone else taking care of my kid is so weird to me. It’s crazy! Friends of mine sent their kid to, granted, a really cool school in California, but it costs 30 grand a semester. For junior high! Do you know how much college costs? Who can afford that? I figure we need to find a full-time babysitter before we start dealing with that stuff.”

Keri Russell started off her weekend with a trip to Taste Restaurant in Los Angeles for a wine-tasting party. Despite having a newborn baby to take care off, the former Felicity star found time to make a tray of homemade pastries to share with the attendees.

Speaking of her baby, River Russell Deary, Keri recently got a little sympathy from the hosts of The View after telling them that she spent 38 hours in labor.

“It was intense…It was a long time. But it all worked out okay,” Keri said of her June 2007 pregnancy - the first for her and husband Shane Deary.

When asked by Sherri Shepard how she lost all the baby weight so quickly, Russell responded, “I would love to say I worked out every day. But it’s truly genetics. You have what you have, and then you work hard or you don’t. And I…It was genetics.”

Responding to whether or not she worked out at all, Keri said, “I didn’t – because I didn’t have a babysitter until two weeks ago. It was like walking through the park. And I have to say, breast-feeding, you burn so many calories, and I’m still doing it.”
