Wesley Snipes Gets a Ticket to Fly

Wesley Snipes

Wesley Snipes is free to go…overseas to work on some films, that is.

A federal judge signed off Wednesday on the actor’s request to be able to travel for work while he waits out the appeals process pertaining to his conviction on tax-evasion charges.

According to Senior U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges’ ruling, Snipes is allowed to go to London this month to complete postproduction on the horror film Gallowwalker and then to Bangkok in September to film the action flick Chasing the Dragon.

Prosecutors objected to what they called Snipes’ vague estimate of how long he’d be spending in Thailand (eight weeks, the actor said), saying it’s one thing to let him go to England for a week but another to allow him to spend at least two months “beginning a new project half-way around the world with an open-ended return date.”

Snipes was sentenced in April to three years in prison for failing to file multiple income-tax returns but the court has allowed him to remain free while his attorneys appeal his case.

Mutant Chronicles Trailer!

The trailer for Mutant Chronicles has finally made its way online. I’ve been following this movie for a while so I’m glad we finally have a trailer. AICN say:

Tom Jane and Perlman say this flick is something they’re proud of. I’ve talked to both of them about stuff they’ve done and they’ve been completely unfiltered about their opinion, having been very blunt about bad experiences and bad films in their filmography

It’s good they are proud of it because it does look dark and interesting, but then again Halle Berry was proud of Catwoman. It is obvious the movie didn’t have the biggest budget but that doesn’t mean it wont be a treat.

Dark Knight Ticket Sales Eight Times as Much as Spider-Man 3

WOW. Fandango is reporting that dozens of showtimes for The Dark Knight are already sold out for the midnight screenings on Thursday night/Friday morning, July 17th. That’s right, even with a full three weeks before the film hits, screenings have begun to sell out. A few theaters have begun to add 3:00am showtimes on Friday morning to help meet the consumer demand.

Update: As of June 27, “Dark Knight” has sold eight times as many tickets on MovieTickets.com as “Spider-Man 3″ at the same point in the sales cycle — 21 days from the film’s official release. “Spider-Man 3″ is the No. 10 film on MovieTickets.com’s Top-10 Performing Films of All-Time.

How well do you know the work of Troy McClure?

Are you familiar with the works of actor Troy McClure? You might know him from Locker Room Towel Fight: The Blinding of Larry Driscoll. But as the IMDb notes, he has had quite a long career.

Mental Floss has a new quiz up at their site, Troy McClure Film or Actual Terrible Movie? It contains 15 questions about the work of McClure (voiced on The Simpsons, of course, by Phil Hartman - the character was retired when Hartman passed away). They give you a film title and you have to guess whether it’s a fake Troy McClure film from an episode of The Simpsons or an actual film that somehow got made (note: just pick a film and the site automatically goes to the next question). I got 10 out of 15, but I think that was more because of my knowledge of bad films than specific episodes of The Simpsons.

Some of the titles of these movies and TV shows are priceless (don’t worry, these aren’t on the quiz): David vs. Super Goliath, Calling All Quakers, Lead Paint: Delicious But Deadly, Smoke Yourself Thin, Pepsi Presents: Fractions. I also like the telethon Let’s Save Tony Orlando’s House (today he would be hosting a special for Ed McMahon).
