Trackmaster Jerkins: Britney Still Brings It

After a brief music-biz timeout, Britney Spears is barging back with a vengeance, says record producer Rodney Jerkins in this exclusive video interview with News reporter Jason Kennedy. Touting the pop star’s professionalism and savvy, Jerkins says Brit can still cut a killer track in a fraction of the time it takes other artists.

And she’s no studio diva either, never demanding anything more than Starbucks or Red Bull. For more of this exclusive video, catch News Sunday evening.

Prince Relives 21 Nights

Prince

If anyone can top the wonders to be found within One Thousand and One Nights in only a fraction of the time, surely it's Prince.

The Purple One will be allowing a rare glimpse into the inner sanctum via 21 Nights, a "photographic essay" offering a look at the "life, lyrics and mystique of one of the most notable and prolific performers of our time," according to publisher Atria Books.

In addition to 124 never-before-seen photos chronicling Prince's 21 consecutive sold-out shows at London's O2 Arena last year, the package will also include Indigo Nights, a compilation album culled from the intimate, small-venue gigs the artist played after-hours.

“We are tremendously honored and excited by this opportunity to present this lyrical and visually rich book from Prince that captures the spirit and voluptuous sound of his brilliant [London run],” publisher Judith Curr said in a statement. “21 Nights is an innovative multimedia book project created by a musical visionary and uncompromising artist, an invitation to experience a side Prince has not revealed until now.”

The memoir will be ready to rock your coffee table this fall.

Dirt: What is This Thing Called

Ian Hart and Ashley Johnson(S02E05) “Does Dr. Seuss know you’re plagiarizing him?” - Farber

I know I ragged on Dirt last week for the direction it was taking this season, and while most of that complaining is still deserved, I have to admit — this episode deserves a certain level of respect.

Britney Spears is everywhere. Every tabloid, every TV news magazine, and every gossip blog. The writers and producers behind Dirt were pretty much obligated to tackle her story in some way, shape, or form. It would have been awkward if a show like this didn’t include it. That being said, they really could have screwed it up and made it painful to watch. But… I don’t think they did.

I don’t know about you, but by the end of the episode, I actually felt pretty bad for Sharlee. Was that the intention? Absolutely. But I still did. Think about it though. How much do we actually know about Britney Spears? Well… a lot. And most of it ain’t good. But look at it this way: if even a fraction of the things we hear about Brit-Brit aren’t true and even a fraction of the Sharlee Cates “story” has some truth to it, then c’mon. Single tear perhaps? All I’m saying is that it was pretty well done. They could have been really degrading and insulting on numerous occasions, but I thought most of it was done tastefully. Even the haircutting scene displayed some restraint and they really could have run wild with that.

Most of the remaining hour was a lot of stuff that spawned my complaints last week, but it looks like some of it may be heading back in the right direction. Rather than continue to play out the endless (read: annoying) sexual tension between Farber and Willa, their game of oneupmanship finally resulted in some sex. The highlight of the episode was definitely when they started to make out and stumbled into the janitor’s closet. Willa quickly pushed them out, saying something about skeletons. Remember season one? Three words: Willa, Brent, and buttplugs.

Same goes for Lucy and Holt. It seems that Don’s new found conscience finally gave Lucy a push to do the right thing. I love that there’s some tension between Don and Lucy. It’s about time that relationship got rocky. But his “loving people is not about controlling them” rant finally knocked some sense into her. At the end, when Lucy and Holt were about the kiss, I was really expecting that new Brit photographer to be hiding behind another trailer, snapping shots. I’m just glad the two main relationships in this show finally have some legs.

More thoughts…

Overall, pretty decent episode. It doesn’t exactly renew my faith in the show, but it was certainly unexpected after last week’s suck-fest. Here’s to hoping the last two episodes of the season continue with the trend.

Hoosiers - Goodbye Mr A Video and Lyrics

Goodbye Mr A by The Hoosiers, Music Video and Lyrics

Goodbye Mr A” is the second single by the UK indie band The Hoosiers from their 2007 album The Trick To Life.

Hoosiers - Goodbye Mr A Lyrics

There’s a hole in your logic
You who know all the answers
You can sigh and say magic
And expect me to buy it

And Goodbye Mr A
You promised you would love us
But you knew too much
Goodbye Mr A
You had all the answer
But no human touch
If life is subtraction
Your number is up
Your love is a fraction
It’s not any more

Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh
(Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh)
(Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh)
(Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh)

So busy showing me where I’m wrong
You forgot to switch your feelings on
Oh-Oh-Oh
So so superior, your not
You love a little bit but you forgot

Goodbye Mr A
You promised you would love us
But you knew too much
Goodbye Mr A
You had all the answers
But no human touch
If life is subtraction
Your number is up
Your love is a fraction
It’s not any more

Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh
(Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh)
(Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh)
(Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh)

(Goodbye Mr A)
(Goodbye Mr A)

Goodbye Mr A
The world was full of wonder till you opened my eyes
Goodbye Mr A
(Goodbye Mr A)
Wish you hadn’t blown my mind and spoiled the suprise
Goodbye Mr A
You promised you would love us but you knew to much
Goodbye Mr A
You had all the answers
But no human touch
If life is subtraction
Your number is up
Your love is a fraction
It’s not any more

(Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh)

The song entered the UK Singles Chart at #5 on Sunday 14 October 2007 and it climbed to #4 the following week . On Sunday 30 December 2007, it rose up the chart from #29 to #10.

The song has been noted for its similarities to the Electric Light Orchestra single, Mr. Blue Sky. “Goodbye Mr A” is the title track to the video game FIFA 08.
