Executive producer of Lost and Heroes interested in pirates — just not the ones you would think

The Pirate’s Dilemma may be coming to television courtesy of Jesse Alexander. If you take Jesse Alexander, the Executive Producer of the popular series Heroes and Lost, and add the word ’pirates’, what do you think you would get? Well, it could be a show featuring pirates that have superhuman abilities who crash into an island that really isn’t an island at all. If you were thinking that, then you would be way off base. If you’re thinking more in the realm of information-sharing pirates you would be taking a step in the right direction.

It seems that Jesse Alexander is teaming up with Matt Mason, author of The Pirate’s Dilemma for a show about modern-day piracy and how important it is for today’s society. For those not familiar with the book, Mason makes an argument that the open source culture that we now have with information sharing is changing the shape of economies and breaking down walls that allow easier access to software, music, television shows, and other forms of media and technology. According to a post on TorrentFreak, the show will aim to educate people on how piracy has been an innovator in our society and how it will shape our future. A teaser of the show can be found on TorrentFreak as well as Mason’s own blog.

It will be interesting to see if this show ever comes to fruition and, if it does, what network it will air on. Despite the power of Alexander behind it, I’m not sure how networks will react to a show on how the potential pirating of their material is a good thing for them. This is especially true after the battle they went through during the Writers Strike and the one they are currently fighting with the Screen Actors Guild. Then again, by the time this show comes to air the environment may have changed.

Exclusive: Rosie Perez and Carlos Ponce Swing Into Lipstick Jungle

Rosie Perez, Carlos Ponce

Hey, Andrew McCarthy, don’t look now, but a totally hot Latin guy is headed for your girl.

Inside sources reveal that Rosie Perez and Puerto Rican singing sensation Carlos Ponce are coming to NBC’s Lipstick Jungle for multiepisode arcs in the new season, which premieres Sept. 24.

I just got off the bat phone with Lipstick show runner Oliver Goldstick who confirmed the news and revealed inside details on their roles…

Lindsay Price, Lipstick Jungle

Carlos will play Rodrigo, a contractor and potential love interest for Lindsay Price’s character, Victory Ford (side note: an insider connected to Mario Lopez tells me he was up for the same role), while Rosie is playing Dalia, Lindsay’s passionate new publicist. She’s “fiery and fiesty and the hottest publicist on the planet right now,” explains Oliver.

Salma Hayek

Oliver reveals that Rosie’s role was inspired by Salma Hayek, whom he worked with on Ugly Betty. “To Salma, nothing’s unreachable and no one’s untouchable,” Oliver explains.” That’s what I love about her, that can-do approach to everything, and I thought that was a great character to introduce to the show.”

Oliver also first met Rosie on Ugly Betty when she auditioned to play Hilda’s boss (a role which never came to fruition).

Andrew McCarthy in Lipstick Jungle

So does Victory’s hot new lover mean McCarthy is on his way out? Definitely not, says Oliver. “He is still very much apart of Victory’s life via the business. Andrew is still a regular on the show, and Rodrigo is basically the opposite of Joe Bennett in every way.”

What’s that I smell? Oh yes, a very spicy love triangle! Yum.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Hits the Late Show

Sarah Michelle Gellar Hits the Late Show

If you happened to be in New York City yesterday, and noticed a crowd around 53rd and Broadway, blame Sarah Michelle Gellar.  She stopped by the Ed Sullivan Theater for an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.

The “Cruel Intentions” babe was spotted taking pictures with fans and signing autographs in a retro-style tweed coat, black-and-cream dress and some seriously high heels.

With the ongoing writers’ strike, Gellar’s role in the big-screen adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” has been called into question.  But she says that she’s still in, provided the strike ends soon.

She told press, “It’s a passion project of mine. It’s a story that I’d love to see.  [But] I’m fearful at this rate that I’m going to be the Queen of Hearts because I’m going to be too old to be Alice.

Still, Gellar hopes to see the idea come into fruition.  “It’s something I’d really like to see done. And unfortunately, it was the victim of regime change in the studio. [But] contrary to what you may have read, it’s still my project. So to all those Alice fans, I’m not giving up.  Because I believe there is such a beautiful, crazy, cool, twisted story to be told there, and if I have to get down and write it myself one of these days, I may have to…!”

Dark Shadows comes to the big screen

Dark ShadowsWe’ve kind of been conditioned to have lowered expectations when a TV show makes the jump to the big screen. It’s usually an iffy proposition at best. For every Mission Impossible, The Fugitive, or The Untouchables there is a Bewitched, Wild Wild West, or Starsky & Hutch. With that in mind, I was a little hesitant when I got the email from a friend announcing that Dark Shadows was headed for the silver screen. That one could go wrong in so many ways. But then I clicked the link he sent along…

According to our friends over at Cinematical, the rights to the show now belong to Johnny Depp’s Infinitum-Nihil production company. And now comes news that Tim Burton has signed on to direct the movie adaptation. It’s a short, and quite logical, jump to finding Depp playing Barnabas Collins. It also doesn’t hurt the argument that when asked about the possibility of doing this film during the Sweeney Todd press junket, Depp said, “If that comes to fruition, that’s a dream come true, man. Barnabas Collins - when I was a kid I wanted to be Barnabas.” Depp, Burton, and Dark Shadows have all the makings of a great movie.
