Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz: Fun on the Fourth

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz: Fun on the Fourth

Continuing along with their sociable ways, parents-to-be Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz visited a friend’s house in celebration of Independence Day on Friday (July 4).

The “Outta My Head” singer and her Fall Out Boy hubby chatted it up for awhile before toting their baby bulldog Rigby to the car for the short ride home.

As previously reported by , the couple were also out kick-starting the holiday weekend on Thursday - with Pete clowning around for the paparazzi by “getting wasted on water” before shooting off some fireworks.

As for the future, Ashlee and Pete are set to become parents later this fall, with a string of rumors that they’ll be welcoming a baby boy into their family - although the sex of the baby hasn’t been confirmed yet.

French Have Fun With Brangelina

Angelina Jolie

Who said the French don’t have a sense of humor? Well, OK, we have. Repeatedly. But it turns out we were wrong.

A due-any-minute woman staying in the same Nice hospital as Angelina Jolie flashed her belly to paparazzi through a suite window. She no doubt meant it as a joke“Any pregnant belly will do, oui?”

But the joke’s on the media for giving the French woman’s unborn fetus his/her 15 minutes of fame. How drôle. (No word on whether the man next to her is Jerry Lewis.)

Heroes gets the Greatest American Hero

William KattAccording to an interview with Newsarama, the actor William Katt who is best known from the ’80s television show The Greatest American Hero will be appearing in a guest starring capacity on the NBC show Heroes. He is playing a reporter that is pursuing Ali Larter’s ’Nikki’ character (who, given this information, likely survived the explosion that ended last season).

“I just filmed it last week,” Katt says. “I play a really, really wonderful, seedy, smarmy-mouthed reporter that goes after Ali Larter. It was a lot of fun.”

When comparing Heroes to the superhero show he once starred in, Katt says “It’s more Hitchcockian. It’s a more dark and seedy look at the world of superheroes. It’s offering to television viewers what some of the better comic books do…Tim Kring is just an extraordinary writer. And I think there’s no end to his creativity. He’s kind of mad, in an insane way. And that always makes it interesting. There are a lot of twists yet to come.”

My only question is: will he tell the other heroes where to find the instruction book?

Rumor Patrol: Rashida Jones in Office Spinoff?

Rashida Jones, The Office

Consider this only a rumor for the time being. However, word has been rippling through the TV biz today that Rashida Jones (aka Karen Filippelli, presently of Utica, New York) may star in the upcoming NBC spinoff of The Office.

Sounds pretty amazing to this Office (and Rashida) fan, so I did a little digging, and here’s where this stands: While one inside source (who has always been reliable) says “it’s true” that Rashida will be a part of the new series, another source inside Rashida’s camp says,  “As far as I know, she has not been approached.” Hmmm…

Meanwhile, a rep for Universal (which produces The Office) tells me: “Universal Media Studios has a talent holding deal with Rashida. It is premature to speculate about any potential projects she could be involved with.”

So where does that leave us? Right back where we started, with this being—so far—just a fascinating, plausible and wholly unconfirmed rumor. (Hmph.) Still, I know many of you fellow fans are jonesing for a little Office fodder right about now, so I thought I’d share.

And since you asked (What? You didn’t?), I’m definitely rooting for Rashida/Karen to join in on the spinoff fun. And if we can have Phyllis drop by for a makeover from time to time? Well, it’d be so good it almost hurts.

(That’s what she said.)

What say you?
