O’Donnell’s Marriage Still Rosie
Rosie O’Donnell’s marriage is not on the rocks, thankyouverymuch.
Never one to back away from a public war of words, O’Donnell has lashed out at a rumor started by veteran Page Six gossip maven Cindy Adams alleging O’Donnell’s marriage to Kelli Carpenter had hit the skids.
“I called Rosie this morning, and she said she thinks Cindy Adams is a lesbian but doesn’t know it yet,” O’Donnell’s rep, Cindi Berger, told News. “Rosie said she’s leaving Kelly for Cindy.”
If nothing else, that ought to sell some papers.
Adams’ item was published in the print and online editions of the New York Post earlier this morning.
“We’re hearing that the togetherness of Rosie O’Donnell and Kelli Carpenter, the handsome blond gal Rosie calls her wife, may not be so together anymore,” Adams wrote. “Whatever other difficulties such a breakup might cause, there is also a houseful of adopted kids they’re raising.”
O’Donnell wasted no time in rebutting the claims, first firing off a missive to Perez Hilton.
“cindy adams and i r having a full blown affair. she is a lesbian,” the spelling- and grammar-eschewing TV vet wrote.
O’Donnell and Carpenter tied the knot in San Francisco on Feb. 26, 2004, and have four children together. The wedding was later declared invalid by the California Supreme Court.
However, the law has once again changed, much to Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi and George Takei’s delight. And O’Donnell spoke out about the change earlier this month, claiming she and Carpenter would not be rushing down the aisle a second time.
“We’re going to wait until it’s legal everywhere,” she said. “Once it gets to be at the federal level, once every state recognizes the marriages of every other state, I think that’ll be the time we would do it.”
No word on whether Cindy shares the same opinion.
George Takei: Licensed to Wed
George Takei just beamed up a marriage license.
The Star Trek alum and longtime partner Brad Altman were among the first same-sex couples to obtain licenses in West Hollywood this morning.
“I think it’s a glorious California morning to make history,” the erstwhile Sulu said. “Congratulations to all of us: May equality live long and prosper.”
The 71-year-old actor and his 54-year-old partner have been together for 21 years. Takei said the couple will wed on Sept. 14.
Their wedding license is good for 90 days.
Today was the first full day licenses were issued to homosexual couples in accordance with the California Supreme Court’s legalization of gay marriage last month. Takei is the first celebrity to take the plunge; Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are among those expected to follow suit.
“It’s going to be the only day like this in our lives,” Takei told the throng of press, fans and supporters upon receiving the document. “And it is the only day like this in the history of America.”
T.R. Knight ’Surprised’ Boyfriend Was Interested
Having been dating Mark Cornelson since February, T.R. Knight has formed some perspective on their relationship – and their age difference.
“It’s bound to raise some eyebrows,” the 35-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star tells Extra for an interview due to air Thursday, “but we love each other.”
Cornelson, 19, is a student and “an amazing guy. I love being around him,” says Knight. “I love what we have.”
With a laugh, the actor also says, “I was surprised he was interested!”
Despite the legalization of same-sex marriage in California – which has prompted Ellen DeGeneres and Star Trek vet George Takei to announce (separately) that they intend to wed their respective partners – Knight has no similar plan for the immediate future.
“We’ve only known each other for six months, so I think it’s a little soon to consider marriage.” Still, he says, “I don’t think you date anyone that you don’t see a future with.”
Asked if he’s interested in having children? “The idea of it, yes,” he responds. “Adopting.”
