The Totally Tentative TV-Show Panel Schedule for July's Comic-Con

The Con is coming! The Con is coming!
Yes, San Diego Comic-Con 2008 is just a few short weeks away, with good friends like Lost, Heroes, The Office and Dexter scheduled to attend. I was sorting out my personal itinerary through the halls of the San Diego Convention Center when Seat42f made me realize that I might not be the only one trying to figure out what TV stuff is happening at the Con.
So I beat a few bushes (dirty) and flushed out (dirtier!) the schedule of TV-show events and panels, as it stands now. This is totally unofficial, unauthorized and subject to change (especially if there is an actors’ strike), but click in for the current scheme of things as we approach Nerdvana.
Sidenote: If you have questions for Michael C. Hall or any of the rest of the Dexter cast, I will gladly and gleefully take them via email (), as I plan to host the Dexter panel. Come and say hi, OK?

Moss Beach Distillery epically fails at duping the Ghost Hunters
It’s not often that I write up about an episode of Ghost Hunters, but this one was quite different than the rest. Unfortunately I’m not talking about something spectacular the GH team caught on video or a wild EVP recording.
During the second half of the ’Widow’s Watch’ episode, Grant, Jason and crew headed out to the Moss Beach Distillery in Moss Beach, California, to investigate reported sightings of a mysterious “Blue Lady” ghost. Spencer Gray, the exec chef at the restaurant, gave the team a hammy tour of the place, pointing out the various places where sightings and sounds had been reported.
As the team conducted their investigation, Grant and Jason caught on very quickly that the whole place was rigged with props and gags to make it sorta seem haunted — a hidden speaker and glowing face behind the mirror in the ladies bathroom; pneumatic triggers to move the chandeliers at timed intervals. There was likely more, but they didn’t waste time finding out.
Needless to say, Jason and Grant were completely bull. I think what we saw on-camera was a dumbed-down version of what their real reaction was when they discovered the clowns at the distillery pulled a fast one on them. When they confronted Gray during their usual reveal session, they kept their composure as they gently expressed their disappointment that they weren’t told about the gags. Gray’s response was that it must have “slipped [his] mind,” all while not doing a very good job at hiding his smug smirk.
I honestly don’t know how Jason was able to restrain himself from reaching over that table and taking Gray by the nose. Not only did the team waste their night at this place (and on the other side of the country), but Grant nearly broke his ankle trying to see what the hell was in the ceiling. I’m left wondering if Sci Fi will sue the restaurant for pulling that crap and then lying by saying they simply forgot to tell the team about the gags.
Kudos to the GH team for keeping their cool, even though I bet they left a few holes punched in hotel room walls in frustration. As for the Moss Beach Distillery folks: what the eff?
More Ghost Hunters for Sci Fi
I don’t keep a very close eye on weekly ratings, especially for cable shows, so it was sort of a surprise to me that Ghost Hunters is listed as one of Sci Fi’s “most watched shows” — not because it’s not good, but because I don’t know anyone who watches it besides myself. In fact, I’ve been calling it a “guilty pleasure” all this time.
Sci Fi has some good news for us fans of Ghost Hunters, giving the show another 13 episodes for this season. They’ve also decided to give Destination Truth another seven episodes.
GH has gotten a lot better these past couple of seasons (it’s currently in its fourth season), getting rid of all of the hokey drama that I’m near certain drove lead hunter Jason Hawes crazy. Viewers didn’t want to see that crap; we wanted more of the supernatural and the science. These guys film in my neck of the woods of New England all the time, and I’m dying to get to ride along some day to report back on what it’s like. Some day …
