McGruff the Crime Dog has a blog (E-I-E-I-O)

McGruffTV viewers will remember the series of commercials that featured the animated law enforcement icon McGruff The Crime Dog, the ones that told us to “take a bite outta crime.” He now has a blog.

Yup, the crime-solving (or crime-preventing) canine takes his paws and taps out blog entries for the kids to read, handing out advice about safety, health, and life in general. You can also read stories on how McGruff became a crime dog (he used to hang out at the local police station and listen to cop stories and asked cops how he could help - the cops said “what’s a dog going to do to fight crime?” - I guess a talking dog was OK but a talking dog that fought crime was completely unrealistic) and play McGruff games.

I don’t really agree with his assertion that they best way to deal with bullies is to just ignore them. I don’t think that has been good advice since an early episode of The ABC Afterschool Special in the ’70s. These days you need a weapon or at the very least a good lawyer.

Eva Longoria’s Beauty Tip

Eva Longoria’s Beauty Tip

With the constant pressure on celebrities to always look their best, Hollywood is always in search of the next “fountain of youth.” But Eva Longoria says it’s much simpler than all of that.

The Desperate Housewives star has revealed her personal prescription for looking her best… happiness, health, and exercise.  And while it sounds too easy to work, Eva swears by it.

She recently told press, “I think it’s a combination of a lot of things. It’s obviously emotional health. And it’s obviously your physical health, but there’s a lot of maintenance involved, and I’m not talking about anti-ageing. I’m just talking about general health, getting your checkups and getting your blood tests and making sure you get your mammograms.”

And rather than complicated chemical peels, Longoria opts for the normal, everyday facial.  “For me, as far as skin is concerned, I’m a big advocate of facials. And, I moisturise. And, I read my magazines. I listen to good advice from people who really know, and I try to watch what I eat. But, it’s diet. It’s exercise. It’s maintenance. It’s checkups. It’s attitude. It’s a lot of things. And, I think you just need to be aware of what’s going to work for you.”

As far as emotional health, Eva says keeping yourself centered goes a long way in the appearance department.  Your body is a vehicle of your emotions and a vehicle of feelings and a vehicle of whatever you need to get done in life. And, you’ve got to take care of that vehicle.”

Lythgoe and son David comment on Jeff Archuleta’s troubles

Nigel LythgoeAmerican Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has come out in confirmation that finalist David Archuleta’s dad has been effectively banned from participating in David’s rehearsals, though he stops short of saying Jeff Archuleta’s been banned altogether from the backstage area. In an interesting choice of words, Lythgoe said, “He has been asked not to participate in the choice of music with David or be in the room when David is working out his routines that he wants to sing. He’s fine to be in the studio — nothing wrong with that. We just want David to be able to be free like everybody else to get on and do what they want to do.” I find the use of “free like everybody else” very interesting.

Later Lythgoe said they were concerned about giving everyone an equal opportunity and taking away “some of the pressure” that David was under. It’s certainly an interesting comment in that you wonder if Idol should even take on that role of reducing parental pressure. He did stop short of declaring Jeff Archuleta a “stage dad,” instead saying only that a stage mom or dad is only “someone who’s protective.”

Throughout the season there have been varying reports about Jeff’s uber-involvement in his son’s song selections and preparations for not only this show but Star Search and pretty much anything else he’s ever been involved in. And through it all, David has stayed quiet, focusing instead on the task at hand. But now, in speaking with US Magazine, David Archuleta denied reports that his dad has been some kind of overbearing monster. He said, “I think I, of all people, would know what’s going on, and he’s been great. He’s given me a lot of good advice and helped me from making any dumb decisions. He understands more than anyone what I want in music, and I’ve felt really blessed to have someone like that.”

The latest word now has Jeff Archuleta “shooting daggers” at Lythgoe during last night’s performances, particularly when the executive producer was seen clapping after a David Cook performance. Reports also have him chummy with David Archuleta croney Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, but having “no interaction at all” with Simon Cowell, who’s been the most openly critical of his son. Of course, all of this is fairly normal behavior for someone who’s been slighted personally and cares about his son, so that may be more ado about nothing.

Kate Beckinsale’s Key To Marital Bliss

Kate Beckinsale’s Key To Marital Bliss

If you ask Kate Beckinsale what she recommends for a happy and fulfilling marriage, she’d say “Lots of sex!”

According to She magazine, the Underworld star enjoys a very passionate relationship with her husband, director Len Wiseman.  Kate met Wiseman on the set of Underworld.

“If you can strike a balance where the man is having sex a lot and the woman is feeling desired enough to have sex, then you’ve figured out the secret to a marriage that’s alive.” The actress went on to say, “Women feel sexy from feeling attractive and desired. Men feel sexy from having sex.”

Beckinsale’s insight is pretty profound in it’s simplicity. “I’m very blessed to have a husband who appreciates me.” Yeah, I bet a lot of men would appreciate a beautiful British actress who loves sex!

The “Pearl Harbor” star has a seven-year-old daughter, Lily, with ex-boyfriend, British actor Michael Sheen, and she makes sure she balances all her relationships.

“Just because you’re a mother doesn’t mean you can’t feel sexy! We’ve worked extremely hard to make it comfortable for Lily and I’m quite proud of that.”

Keep dishing out the good advice, Kate.  Looks like it’s working for you.
