Beat Ben @ the Box Office: Clooney’s Big Game?

Films directed by George Clooney have never been huge hits at the box office (Good Night, and Good Luck), but they are always hits with critics. Now Clooney may have the best of both worlds when Leatherheads hits theaters this weekend. The Old Hollywood-style football comedy is opening on more than 2,500 screens, with not only Clooney and fellow Oscar-winner Renée Zellweger leading, but also The Office star and friend of the Lyons Den Jon Krasinski.

Look for Clooney and crew to take in $15 million this weekend. It won't be No. 1 (family adventure Nim's Island will most likely take the top spot), but it will be one the highest opening weekends for a Clooney movie not featuring Brad Pitt or Batman.

Leatherheads Movie Trailer

Leatherheads Movie Trailer

Universal has released the movie trailer for Leatherheads, a romantic comedy set in the world of 1920s football. The story follows the owner of a professional team who drafts a straight-laced college sensation in an attempt to legitimatize the sport, only to watch his new coach fall for his fiancée. Directed and starring George Clooney, co-starring John Krasinski, Renée Zellweger, and Stephen Root.

Seems a little zany to me, but I keep telling myself that this is the same guy who directed Confessions of a Dangerous Mind  and Good Night and Good Luck. Watch the trailer. What you you guys think?

You can also watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo! Movies. Leatherheads hits theaters on April 4th 2008.

Fracture: Ryan Gosling’s Movie (And Relationship?)

Fracture: Ryan Gosling’s Movie (And Relationship?)

Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling (of Half Nelson fame) recently spoke with MoviesOnline at the LA press day.  He was there to promote his new movie, Fracture.  Gosling stars alongside screen legend Anthony Hopkins in the new dramatic thriller.

In the film, Gosling plays a crusading prosecuting attorney in search of justice.  Fracture is packed with twists and turns that weave in and out of the courtroom as the pair tries to outwit each other. The film features an outstanding supporting cast that includes Academy Award-nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck), Rosamund Pike (Pride & Prejudice), and Billy Burke.

Meanwhile, Ryan continues to propel rumors that his relationship with Hollywood actress Rachel McAdams may be over.

When asked whether the two were still dating at the film’s NY afterparty, Ryan had “no idea.”

Meanwhile, McAdams’ rep pleads that the break-up stories are “completely false.”
