Josh Flitter is Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Last Summer we warned you that Morgan Creek was developing a third Ace Ventura: Pet Detective film. And now moviehole has gotten word on Jim Carrey’s replacement. Drumroll please. The new Ace Ventura is…. Josh Flitter! Wait, who? That was my response. Josh has been a side character in a bunch of recent movies. He was Robin William’s young minister helper in License to Wed. He was Nancy Drew’s young friend Corky. He was also in The Greatest Game Ever Played and Big Momma’s House 2. Not a very good track record. You would probably remember him as the short kinda chubby loudmouth kid.
So you’re probably asking yourself “how could this fat kid replace Jim Carrey?” Well, the new movie is tentatively titled Ace Ventura Jr., and will center on the “eccentric detective’s son, who steps into his father’s shoes to take over the family business.” Sounds like a bad idea to me. David Mickey Evans (The Sandlot, The Final Season) is directing. We’ll try to forget this ever happened.
Tribeca Movie Review: The Power of The Game
The following movie was screened at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival.

The Power of The Game
Spotlight, Documentary
2007, U.S.A.
Dir: Michael Apted
The joy of football. The world’s sport. The greatest game on Earth. Football is the most played sport on the planet and every four years the greatest sporting competition takes place, the FIFA World Cup. Director Michael Apted transcends his love for the sport and decides to tackle an immense project in The Power of The Game.
Set against the backdrop of seven different nations, the film tries to examine the importance of football in an ever accelerating and globalizing world. The filmmakers travel to Iran, South Africa, Argentina, England, Pakistan, the United States, and Senegal to try and weave the stories of those touched by the power of the game, which culminates in a triumphant end at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
We see how in South Africa, everyone from Nelson Mandela to local public officials have been pushing for the cup to be held there, and in 2010, South Africa will be the proud host to the sporting event. Everyone involved is quickly preparing the infrastructure of the country to be able to support the hundreds of thousands of spectators expected to attend. This will obviously benefit South Africa greatly and aid it in attempting to overcome its economic instability.
In England and Pakistan we see the link between both countries as Zeshan Rehman, a young Pakistani player, is the first footballer from the Asian sub-continent to play in the British Premiership. Efforts in England are also being made to eradicate racism from the sport.
The Iranian side of the story focuses on the women behind the scene. Women all over Iran love football, but by law they are not allowed to attend games at the stadiums and must watch from their home. Journalist Mahin Gorji, because of her position, was the first woman ever allowed into a stadium, and we travel with her to the World Cup as she experiences the excitement of being there in person.
In Argentina and Senegal, groups of underprivileged youths gather to play street football, where they rejoice and try to pick themselves out of the rut of their poverty-stricken neighborhoods. The youths go to Germany for the street football championship and enjoy the camaraderie among all the other players from around the world.
The U.S. side of the story focuses on the lack of support here for the sport. Known as soccer here, football is not a multi-million industry, as are basketball, baseball, and American football, and is thus ignored. But it is slowly growing and gaining ground.
At times, the film is so large and tries to cover so much ground, that it gets lost. Some of the multiple storylines get blurry and don’t really connect well with each other. This is quite a shame, because the prospects of such a project were enticing.
Confirmed: Shia LaBeouf cast in Indiana Jones 4

Last month we reported on a rumor that Transformers star Shia LaBeouf was being considered for the role of Harrison Ford’s son in Indiana Jones 4. The Slate has now confirmed that LaBeouf has won the role.
“Apparently, the young actor is impressive enough in the upcoming Steven Spielberg-produced Disturbia and Transformers that he won the role,” reported The Slate.
Update: Variety has confirmed that “Shia LaBeouf is in final talks to star.”
LaBeouf perfectly fits the image of George Lucas’ comic sidekicks.
With filming set to begin in three months, I’m sure we’ll hear a bunch of casting announcements shortly. Will 76-year-old Sean Connery return as Indy’s father? We learned yesterday that Natalie Portman is not involved in the project, despite rumors for the last year.
Shia LaBeouf became known after a starring in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens. A chance role in the Project Greenlight movie The Battle of Shaker Heights, brought him to the attention of Hollywoods best casting agents. He has since appeared in a string of Hollywood films, including Charlies Angels: Full Throttle, Holes, I, Robot, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Constantine, and Bobby. He has a role in Michael Bays upcoming live action Transformers movie and provides the lead voice for in animated film Surfs Up.
Indiana Jones 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2008.
Shia LaBeouf cast as Indiana Jones Jr?

Rumor has it that Transformers star Shia LaBeouf might be cast as Harrison Ford’s son in Indiana Jones 4.
We know that Steven Spielberg has an interest in LaBeouf, having cast the actor in Disturbia and Transformers. And the type seems to gel with George Lucas’ idea of comic-sidekicks (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom?). This might also give the fourth film some much needed action sequences. What? You didn’y think that Harrison Ford (age 64) and Sean Connery (age 76) can handle it themselves?
But is it true? We don’t know. All I can tell you is it’s coming from a pretty reliable source, so we’re printing it. With filming set to begin in June 2007, I’m sure we’ll find out sooner rather than later.Natalie Portman has also been long rumored to be in line to play Indy’s daughter. A professional connection to producer/writer George Lucas, combined with a comment from Raiders of the Lost Ark actress Karen Allen have furthered this rumor. Even imdb has her listed as a possible cast member.
Update [2:00pm]: Now both AICN and CHUD (”from a source thats pretty impeccable. As far as I am concerned, this is not a rumor but the truth.”) are reporting the rumor. Looks like this might be true.
