Chelsea Celebrates Her Boozy Book

Jenny McCarthy, Chelsea Handler

E!'s resident funnylady and Chelsea Lately host Chelsea Handler has written another book called Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelseaand it's already a New York Times best-seller.

To fete the occasion, a cocktail party was thrown in her honor Wednesday night at Coco de Ville, the new bar adjacent to celeb-heavy steakhouse STK.

Despite the book's title, one celeb friend says her favorite times with Chelsea don't actually involve alcohol. "I just love being with her in general," said Jenny McCarthy, when I asked if she had any crazy drinking stories to share about Chelsea. "We don't really need to get liquored up. She's a straight shooter, and that's what I am, so we get along really well."

Tipsy or not, Chelsea was willing to give her two cents on the Miley Cyrus photo scandal. "It's such a recipe for disaster," she dished, adding that she thought having the 15-year-old wrapped up in a sheet suggestively was a bad idea. "Her dad was there; obviously this is going to go badly."

So could she end up like Lindsay or Britney? "Definitely, we're on the right track," she said. "It'll be in, like, six months."

In related Miley news, comedian Kathy Griffin claims she wasn't given a guest spot on Hannah Montana after her comments at the Creative Arts Emmys. So I asked Chelsea if she ever gets criticized for her raunchy, off-color humor.

"It's comedy, people," she emphasized. "I'm Jewish; I get made fun of all the time. If we can't laugh at each other, there's no hope for anything. I don't have time to be apologizing to people…I tell them to suck it hard."

"Suck it hard" was just one of the messages she scrawled for partygoers wanting their books signed inside the bash. On others, she just wrote a simple "cheers." And of course, the bar was open and fully stocked with plenty of Grey Goose vodka for all the guests.

Lane Garrison’s Falls From Grace: Off to Prison

Lane Garrison’s Falls From Grace: Off to Prison

Actor Lane Garrison, who played a convict on the hit TV show Prision Break, is about to get a real life close-up of the big house after being ordered in the custody of the California Department of Corrections for 90 days. This window of time was ordered by Judge Ellen Fox so that Lane can be evaluated by prison staff and psychiatrists, who will determine whether he is a suitable candidate for probation.

Today’s action comes after Garrison pleaded guilty to felony charges of vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving that stem from his deadly crash in December 2006. The incident happened after Lane attended a party at the request of some teenagers he met earlier in the day. Unfortunately, the day ended in tragedy when Vahagn Setian, a 17-year old female passenger, was killed as Lane crashed his SUV on the side of the road. Lane walked away from the crash with only minor scratches.

Although Lane has entered a guilty plea to the charges he faced, controversy still surrounds the case. According to Lane’s lawyer, his client’s recollection of the events surrounding the night in question is that he just had one drink prior to the crash, and the lawyer alluded to the idea that his drink had been spiked with GHB. Waitresses at the party that Garrison left prior to the accident dispute his story, telling the media that Garrison took “several shots” from a bottle of Grey Goose vodka he brought with himself, and the reason he was in the car with a 0.2 blood alcohol level was that he was on his way to buy more alcohol for the party at the time of the crash.

The two surviving passengers in the accident, both 15-year old girls, took the stand against Lane at his pre-sentencing hearing. Both girls claimed that Lane tried to lie at the time of the accident when he claimed that their friend, Vahagn, had been the driver. “I was in shock when I heard Vahagn was driving. How could he lie to me when I was in the hospital?”

The parents of Vahagn also took the stand today to express their devastation with the loss of their child, and to publicly deny Garrison’s claims that he had tried to reach out the victim’s family. “He took no responsibility. He could have come to us the next day and apologized, but he didn’t,” the grieving father said, adding, “Yesterday was one of the hardest days. It was Vahagn’s birthday. He would have been 18.”

The would like to express their condolences to the family of Vahagn, and promise our readers that we will continue to follow this story as the ripple effect of the accident continues to effect different lives.
