Karolina Kurkova In HD!

Karolina Kurkova In HD!

Yesterday, Victoria’s Secret model Karolina Kurkova was spotted at trendy Beverly Hills eatery The Newsroom devouring a piece of carrot cake while having lunch with a girlfriend.  Now that the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been taped, it seems the Czech babe feels a little freer to indulge herself.

Speaking of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, set your TIVOs for this Tuesday night (December 4) at 10pm (they make it later in the night so that the kiddies will be in bed already!)

It’ll only run for an hour, but what an hour it will be!  For the second year in a row, CBS will be broadcasting the VS gig in High-Definition.

Besides dozens of babes in lingerie prancing down the runway, the VS Fashion Show broadcast will feature performances by Seal and the Spice Girls.

Jack Sussman, a CBS exec, may have said it best: “This is really an event that’s anchored in a fashion show.” Don’t miss it.

Beat Ben @ the Box Office: Jonesing for Indy

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indy’s back, and the timing couldn’t be better. Look for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to set the all-time, five-day box-office record.

Indy is iconic. Older audiences who never felt much for Pirates of the Caribbean’s Captain Jack Sparrow, or even Spider-Man’s Peter Parker, connect with Indy. And younger audiences have rediscovered the franchise on HD-DVDs and flat-screen TVs, just as my generation did on dusty videotapes and, god forbid, LaserDiscs.

Also, there’s the Shia Factor. Dude could read the phone book, and young America would line up and buy a ticket.

Coming off two slower than expected weekends for family films (Speed Racer stunk, and nobody cared much about Chronicles of Narnia), the stage has been set for a massive Indy opening.

Think I’m too gassed on one of film’s last living franchises? Think Shia won’t get the kids to show up? You’re bugging! Put your numbers up….

Another clue in the search for HIMYM’s Mother

HIMYM
One of the things that I love about How I Met Your Mother — there, I said it, I love the show — is the mystery surrounding who “mother” is and whether we’ve already seen her on the show or is she still to be introduced. It’s not just the Lost fans that are watching scene by scene, shot by shot, frame by frame to uncover clues. Take this very cool observation by a blogger at Seat42f.com.

If you look at the picture, the green boxes, you’ll notice that the framed handwritten letter/poem/writing in the background of Stella’s home (left), is the same as the framed letter/poem/writing behind the kids in the opening of the show. According to the blogger — who has HD and studied the scenes closely, it’s definitely the same artifact.

The same artifact in two scenes, 22 years apart. The connection between the two is Ted. Now, the questions, conjecture begin: Why does Ted have the letter unless Stella’s the mother? Well, if she is the mother, then it’s in the 2030 scene because she’s kept it all these years as a souvenir.

What if she’s not the mother? Why would Ted have the framed letter/poem/writing then? Perhaps it was a gift from Stella and he’s saved it all these years, a memento of happy times.

I have a problem with Stella being the mom, though. Would Dad really tell his kids about the first time he boffed mom? Would he reveal that she didn’t have sex for five years? Of course, he may not be with mom in 2030, so I guess he could share that info with his kids, but it’s still borderline creepy. Of course, some of the other stories he’s shared with these teens — what do you think, they’re 14, 15 years old? — has been kinda mature. “Hi, kids, let me tell you about the time I made love to two women at the same time. We called it the Tricycle.”

So, what do you think? Is this the missing link or just another breadcrumb on a path that may or may not lead to mother? Please, comment and share your thoughts cause my head is starting to hurt.

Burn Notice season one encore begins tonight

burn noticeSet your DVRs, friends, because USA and USA HD will begin re-airing the first season of what I consider one of last years most overlooked, good new shows, Burn Notice. In fact, the pilot episode starts airing tonight at 11:00 PM ET, but if you miss that you can catch it at 2:30 AM. Or Sunday at 10 AM. Or later, at midnight. Oh, and then there’s the DVD set coming out in June. In other words, no excuses!

I just finished catching up with this show a couple of weeks ago with Deb, and I’m glad I did. Joel recently had a quick interview with Jeffrey Donovan of Burn Notice, who mentioned how, even if you have no idea what the show is about, every episode starts with a very brief “what this show is about” montage that should set anyone straight. Still, if you haven’t checked the series out yet, give at least the first couple of episodes a shot.
