Another football guy to Dance with the Stars

Sapp on RaidersHow would you like to watch this man do the mambo? Don’t be stunned. It could happen.

Professional athletes have done well on Dancing with the Stars. Kristi Yamaguchi, ice skating star; Apolo Anton Ohno, Olympic speed skater; Helio Castroneves, race-car driver. It’s also true that pro football players have done very well. Former Dallas Cowboy great Emmitt Smith won in 2006, and Miami Dolphins’ Jason Taylor came in second this year.

Therefore, it’s not surprising to hear that the producer of DWTS are courting another grid iron great, but this one? Warren Sapp, a recently retired defensive tackle, says that he’s been invited to Dancing With the Stars and he’s thinks he’s going to do it.

Warren says he’s been asked, but I’ll believe this when it’s announced by ABC. I’m not saying he’s lying, I just think something may have been lost in the translation.

When asked by the St. Petersburg Times if he’s been approached by Dancing, he said, “Yeah, it’s something that sort of came out of nowhere. But I enjoy the idea of training for something else. My whole life has been football. I could hang out in L.A. for a few weeks. My daughter would love it. There’s nothing wrong with my smile. I don’t think I speak Ebonics. I think I will (do the show).”

It’s true that Warren has a nice smile, and he is a personality. He’s larger than life, some would say — literally. Sapp is a big man. Not big as in built and gorgeous like Jason Taylor.

Warren has been called fat and flabby and perpetually out of shape, and that was by football writers. Can you imagine what the judges would say of his paso doble? There’s nothing graceful or handsome about Warren Sapp. He was a powerful player for the University of Miami, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and (to a lesser extent) the Oakland Raiders.

But he’s no dancer. If DWTS really has asked him to participate, he’ll be eliminated fast.

Helio Castroneves Wins “Dancing With The Stars”

Helio Castroneves Wins “Dancing With The Stars”

Can you believe it?  “Dancing With The Stars” has just wrapped it’s fifth season, and last night Helio Castroneves was awarded with the coveted mirrorball trophy.

The race car driver acknowledged that his edge came from his appeal to the voters in the television audience, rather than his dancing ability.  “It’s not only about dancing, you know? It’s about popularity.  That’s what I’m actually very happy about.”

Helio is the fourth straight male winner of “Dancing.” The only time a female celebrity won the contest was way back during the first season, when Kelly Monaco took the crown.

Both Marie Osmond and Melanie Brown were hoping to bring the title back to the female side of the tracks, but neither were successful.  Marie’s quirky wind-up-doll-inspired performance was given a thumbs-down by both the judges and the public… the latter of which was her saving grace all along.

She told press, “We knew every single week that we were here because of them,” she said after the finale. “Obviously, I’m not the best dancer. We know that.”

And even with her four “Wannabe” friends- the Spice Girls- in the audience, Melanie Brown couldn’t quite hack it.  She told press, “Losing was a horrible feeling. I’m not going to deny it.”

Dancing With The Stars Announces Roster

Dancing With The Stars Announces Roster

Who knew that getting a bunch of rich and famous people together with professional dancers and having America vote on their favorite would be such a smashing success?  This time around, Dancing With The Stars has a great group of celebs ready to compete for the hearts of viewers.

This season’s contestants are actress Jane Seymour, super model Albert Reed, Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, actress-model Josie Maran, king of Las Vegas Wayne Newton, entertainer Marie Osmond, boxer Floyd Mayweather, Spice Girl Melanie Brown, racing champ Helio Castroneves, actress Jenni Garth, and actor Cameron Mathison.

And apparently, Seymour was unsure about her involvement in the show initially. “When I talked to some of the fans, they all just said, ‘Oh, we’d love it. It would be so great.’ You know what? My mom is very ill in England and this turns out to be her favorite show ever. So I managed to tell her, ask her what her thoughts were, and in the first words she’s spoken since she had her stroke, she said, ‘Yes.’ I always wanted to dance when I was a little girl. I couldn’t give up this opportunity at this point in my life.”

Also of note, Canadian rocker Avril Lavigne will perform as a musical guest, along with Dolly Parton and Gloria Estefan.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see Wayne Newton compete against 90210’s Garth, Marie Osmond, and Scary Spice.  The show starts September 24th on ABC.

Kevin Connolly Gives a Ring to Julianne Hough

Kevin Connolly Gives a Ring to Julianne Hough | Kevin Connolly Kevin Connolly sure treats his “friends” well.

The Entourage star, 33, recently stopped by Los Angeles’s Tracy Allen Fine Jewelry and plunked down several thousand dollars on a diamond and18-karat, white-gold ring for Dancing with the Stars beauty Julianne Hough.

Hough’s rep confirms to Friends that the 19-year-old professional dancer did indeed receive a ring from the star, but insists that they two are “just friends” and “not dating.”

A store patron says Connolly “knew exactly what he was going to get her and was clear about who it was for.”

Hough even wore the ring on Monday’s performance show, when she and partner Helio Castroneves did the paso doble and the fox trot.

Connolly (who previously dated Nicky Hilton and was briefly linked to Hayley Duff) recently admitted to Howard Stern that he was “actively pursuing” Hough.
