Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight Lyrics
Are you a man who loves
And cherishes
And cares for me?
Is that you? Is that you?
Is that you? yeah…
Are you a guard in a prison
Maximum security?
Is that you? Is that you?
Is that you? yea eh…
Do we stay home all the time
Cuz you want me to yourself?
Is that you? Is that you?
Is that you? yeah…
Or am I locked away
Out of fear that i’d find
Someone else
Is that you? Is that you?
yea eh…
Chorus:
Well, I don’t like
Living under your spotlight
Just because you think
I might find somebody worthy
Oh, I don’t like
Living under your spotlight
Baby, if you treat me right
You won’t have to worry
is this a relationship
Fulfilling your needs
As well as mine
Is that you? Is that you?
Is that you? yeah…
Or is this just my sentence
Am I doing time?
Is that you? Is that you?
Is that you? yeah…
If this is love
Real, real love
Then I’m staying no doubt
Is that you? Is that you?
Is that you? yeah…
But if I’m just a prisoner
Then I’m busting out
Is that you? Is that you?
yeah…
(Chorus)
Oh, you oughta be
Ashamed of yourself
What the hell
Do you think you’re doing?
Loving me, loving me
So wrong
Baby, all I do is try
To show you
That you’re my
One and only guy
No matter
Who may come along
Open your eyes
Cuz baby, I don’t lie
(Chorus 2x)

Wanted: Buffy/Angel episode(s) to watch
Okay, I’m a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, but not a normal one. I’ve read all the comic books for both properties and seen the original movie that launched the phenomenon about three times over the years. And yet, for some reason I’ve never seen a full episode of either show.
When Buffy first came out, I lived in a city that didn’t have The WB. And by the time it was available to me I was already several years behind, and I hate coming into the middle of something. Then, for whatever reason, it has remained on my “to do” list over the years.
So where does that leave me for the Retro Squad Buffy/Angel week? I want to participate, but in a way I’m a newbie to the show. So how about you guys tell me a good episode to immerse myself into the world of the Buffy-verse? In fact, maybe one from each show? I’m hearing from the Squad that ’Hush’ is a good candidate.
This should be fun, as it’s kind of weird reading the new stuff as they come out in comics while only having the vaguest idea of what went on in the original series. I’ll get to see how it all began (well, I saw that I guess with the movie but you know what I mean!) It’ll be like, “Hey, that Dawn kid isn’t nearly as tall as she is in the comics” and “Isn’t Los Angeles supposed to be in hell?”
A “done in one” episode might be best, or some pivotal juncture that doesn’t require having seen sixty-two priors to keep up. Fill up the comments with what you think is a good one to introduce someone to the series and I’ll have my people contact your people to set up a time we can all sit down together and spend some quality time with “The Slayer.”
A new and old episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent walk into a bar…
So, I’m watching a new episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent on USA Network this past Sunday and, like all upstanding Americans do, I was flipping through the channels during a commercial break. As I passed by these channels at the speed of light my eye caught something on Bravo. It was another episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Not a new episode, mind you, just a repeat of a repeat of a repeat that Bravo airs during their Sunday night block.
Now, you’re probably saying to yourself ’So what? Cable channels are allowed to air whatever they damn well please.’ Well, after lecturing you about your tone of voice I would mention that you had a point. But, thanks to the wonderful world of corporate synergy, your argument would not meet the mustard. You see, Bravo is under the huge umbrella known as NBC Universal, which is the same company that owns USA Network, which is currently airing new episodes of Law & Order: CI on Sunday nights. With all of this information at hand the following question comes to mind:
Who the hell is programming these networks?
Isn’t this counterproductive for NBC Universal? Here they are, spending all of these millions of dollars to produce new episodes of the youngest Law & Order series and they are competing against themselves for the viewing public. I would think that both cable networks, as well as the Universal itself, would want people to tune into the newest episodes rather than one that has aired three or four times on Bravo. By setting up this scenario the corporation is saying ’Look, we have these new episodes on USA. But, if you don’t like the new episodes and want to watch some older, better ones, tune into Bravo.’ As a star of the newest episodes, I certainly wouldn’t feel like my work was being supported by the people paying their salaries. As a member of USA Networks I’d feel that Universal wasn’t giving the show a chance to survive. As a viewer, I would just record the new episode to watch a classic episode I previously enjoyed. Since these networks still use the primitive Nielsen ratings system, this would not bode well for these new episodes.
I’m really not too sure why Bravo decided to keep old episodes of CI on its schedule while a new episodes airs on USA at the same time. Perhaps it was a lack of communication at the corporate level, or the fact that a replay of one of the network’s many reality shows doesn’t play well on Sunday nights. Frankly, both explanations don’t wash. It’s probably more of the fact that NBC Universal, in its continuing destruction of the network name, doesn’t really care one way or another. If the new episodes of CI fail, they still make money on the franchise. If they are a success, then all the better. What’s your opinion?
All-time scariest TV characters — #4: The Gentlemen

Characters: The Gentlemen
Show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Episode: “Hush”
When we decided to make this list, I knew right off that I’d start dipping into the Buffy well for scary characters. But you know what? There aren’t a whole lot of “scary” things from this show. So immediately my mind jumped to the most obvious choice by far: The Gentlemen from “Hush”.
In fact, I’d have to say The Gentlemen are the most frightening characters I’ve seen on TV in a long, long time, and I’ve caught a lot of horror-themed TV shows and movies (I’m a horror junkie). It wasn’t just The Gentlemen who were scary, it was also those freakin’ gimps that hopped around along with them, strapped into straight jackets though still somehow able to free their flailing arms to beat the crap out of people.
What was scary about The Gentlemen? Where to begin?! The toothy perma-grin. The pasty white and hairless heads. The way they got around just by floating a few inches off the ground. The fact that they didn’t make a sound at all. They floated around, all four of them, regarding one another as though having a creepy, unheard discussion.
The creepiest scene by far was during the moment when they calmly sliced into a silenced student, extracting his heart out of his chest. Who the hell would want to go to sleep after seeing that?
Oh you can come back and say that our list should have included one of several other Buffy or Angel characters, but really, did they truly frighten you like these guys did? The First Evil? Please!
Here’s a scene that captures the creepiness of these characters. When Tara drops her books and you see some familiar movement in the background … I near shite my drawers.
