Here’s the five-day forecast: Weather Channel about to be bought by NBC

Richard told you earlier this year that The Weather Channel was for sale. Now it looks like recent rumors that NBC was going to be the one to buy the TV network are true. Reuters says that the deal should be closed in the next few days, and the reported price is between $3 billion and $4 billion.

If you haven’t noticed, weather is the most important part of a newscast now. I was just talking to my roommate about this yesterday. Every single local newscast opens with news about the weather. Not just tornadoes and hurricanes, but bad rain storms that might pop up later in the day (wow, rainstorms in the summer - shocking!). Weather is the lead story (death, war, and the election can wait), the follow-up story, and the actual weather segment halfway through the show is given another good 7 or 8 minutes.

This could be good for NBC though. Since they love crossovers and filling the screen with ads for other shows and stunt casting, maybe Howie Mandel can do the weather once in a while. Or maybe Donald Trump can do commentary on California wildfires (”You’re fired!”). Or how about Masi Oka in front of a green screen giving the weather? Better yet, create a new Heroes hero that controls the weather and promote it on the network.

Watch with Kristin Show: See the Future of Grey's Girl Elizabeth Reaser, and Heroes!

I love this girl. That’s what I can tell you after hanging out with Elizabeth Reaser, formerly of Grey’s Anatomy and now the star of CBS’ fall series, The Ex List. Her new show rocks, and she’s one of the coolest chicks you’ll meet—she even let us tag along when she got her very first psychic reading earlier this week. The idea was inspired by her new show, in which a psychic tells her she has one year to reconnect with an ex whom she is meant to marry.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what’s next for Peter and Sylar on Heroes, or Rufus and Lily on Gossip Girl, well, then click in and enjoy the goods!

(P.S. We bleeped the first letter of the name of Elizabeth’s real-life love interest just to make sure we don’t mess with destiny. Who are we to meddle with true love?)

Executive producer of Lost and Heroes interested in pirates — just not the ones you would think

The Pirate’s Dilemma may be coming to television courtesy of Jesse Alexander. If you take Jesse Alexander, the Executive Producer of the popular series Heroes and Lost, and add the word ’pirates’, what do you think you would get? Well, it could be a show featuring pirates that have superhuman abilities who crash into an island that really isn’t an island at all. If you were thinking that, then you would be way off base. If you’re thinking more in the realm of information-sharing pirates you would be taking a step in the right direction.

It seems that Jesse Alexander is teaming up with Matt Mason, author of The Pirate’s Dilemma for a show about modern-day piracy and how important it is for today’s society. For those not familiar with the book, Mason makes an argument that the open source culture that we now have with information sharing is changing the shape of economies and breaking down walls that allow easier access to software, music, television shows, and other forms of media and technology. According to a post on TorrentFreak, the show will aim to educate people on how piracy has been an innovator in our society and how it will shape our future. A teaser of the show can be found on TorrentFreak as well as Mason’s own blog.

It will be interesting to see if this show ever comes to fruition and, if it does, what network it will air on. Despite the power of Alexander behind it, I’m not sure how networks will react to a show on how the potential pirating of their material is a good thing for them. This is especially true after the battle they went through during the Writers Strike and the one they are currently fighting with the Screen Actors Guild. Then again, by the time this show comes to air the environment may have changed.
