There’s a huge resurgence of awareness among Hollywood celebrities regarding the deplorable conditions in Darfur and Sudan. And Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are doing something about it.
The “Good Will Hunting” buddies were spotted hamming it up on the red carpet at the Ante Up for Africa poker tournament at Las Vegas’ Rio Hotel and Casino last night (July 2).
Ante Up for Africa is a No Limit Texas Hold-Em tournament put on by the World Series of Poker. And all of the money raised will benefit survivors in Darfur and Sudan, and will also fund efforts to end the crisis in Africa.
Mr. Affleck looked to be having a wonderful time, sporting a green “Ante Up for Africa” button-up shirt and jeans, while his “Bourne Ultimatum” actor pal went for a black polo shirt and jeans.

Last night was a big one for the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. The who’s who of Hollywood Celebrities were in the house for the filming of Movies Rock, a night celebrating the role of music in cinema.
Fergie took to the stage like a pro, and sang (classic James Bond tune) “Live and Let Die” while suspended in the air. Upon her arrival at the event, she told press she’d love to be a Bond girl, but she doesn’t have time. “I’m so busy, they’d have to kill me off early in the film so that I can do all the other projects I’m committed to.”
Country superstar Carrie Underwood also lent her voice to the evening, performing “The Sound of Music” from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical/movie of the same name. She told press, “As a little girl growing up in Oklahoma, we didn’t have any hills, so it was hard to spin around like Maria Von Trapp.”
R&B stud Usher pre-taped his contribution to Movie Rocks, performing the “Singin’ in the Rain” dance routine. And everybody went nuts. Speaking of going nuts, the “My Way” singer has been going a little nutty himself, having just become a father. He told press his little boy (Usher V) has been quite a handful. “He has been singing and screaming, just like his daddy.”

As a follow-up to the story earlier today, Mischa Barton was released from police custody this morning at approximately 10am to her parents. As she exited the police station, the OC actress didn’t acknowledge the paparazzi. Mommy and Daddy Barton drove her home in their Mercedes-Benz.
And this story is already blowing up, with speculation about whether or not Mischa is falling into the party-girl-jello-mold set forth by young Hollywood celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.
However, with all of the mistakes of her Tinseltown peers, you gotta wonder why Barton didn’t simply hire a driver to cart her around. It’s not like she doesn’t have the money!
The answer to that question, according to Dr. Harris Stratyner (an addition specialist) is simple. “People with active addiction don’t think logically. There’s always a certain element of self-sabotage. Why would somebody risk their career? It’s a form of self sabotage.”
Stratyner also says that Barton’s career field could possibly heighten the severity of her genetically-predisposed tendency toward addiction. “We see a higher incidence of abuse among people who are in the limelight because they’re under tremendous pressure. There’s a tendency to self medicate.”
His recommendation for treatment? “She needs a loved one to take control and get some help. We can’t allow people to hit rock bottom. We used to think people hit bottom … but sometimes you have to raise a person’s bottom. Their bottom could be death.”

In this election year, the tension in the air is only getting thicker as November draws closer. And Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton has enlisted Eva Longoria as a key figure in her campaign.
Realizing the influence of Hollywood celebrities on the rest of the country, the former First Lady was overjoyed when the “Desperate Housewives” actress signed on to help her beat Barack Obama in the upcoming primaries.
And Eva is in good company. Fellow actors Jack Nicholson and Melanie Griffith have also pledged their support to the could-be first female President of the United States.
Yesterday at a Clinton rally, Longoria looked very professional in a white blouse and black skirt as she sat behind Hillary and listened intently to her campaign speech. As far as the Democratic nomination goes, tomorrow’s primaries in Texas and Ohio will most likely be the determining factors in whether or not Hillary will received the Democratic Party’s endorsement.
