Matthew Perry returning to TV
Matthew Perry spent ten seasons on Friends and a rough season on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, but it looks like he isn’t sick of television.
Perry has signed to star in a new comedy titled The End of Steve. Perry will play a radio talk show host in Rochester, NY who likes to swear a lot. In fact, the first word you hear Perry’s character say on the show is a certain word that women don’t like to hear. It begins with a C and rhymes with something a baseball batter does, especially if there is a runner on first with no outs.
The show is from Peter Tolan (Rescue Me, The Larry Sanders Show, Home Improvement), and while there is no network announced for the show, I think we can assume it’s going to be HBO or Showtime (unless it airs on FX or AMC and they bleep the swears, but that would blunt the edginess of the words).
Tim Allen’s scary Internet avatar
A few weeks ago, while doing some research on stand-up comedians who became sitcom stars, I ended up Googling a whole bunch of names to get some additional pre-television history on them. One of these was Home Improvement’s Tim Allen. While looking up Tim’s information I came upon a listing for his personal website. It was a weird listing though — something like Tim Allen — T’Avatar. Well, since I know Tim’s not a Romulan, I thought this was just an abbreviation of something. Needless to say I clicked in.
Turns out, T’Avatar was short for Tim Allen’s Avatar, which appears in an opening video to his website. Folks, this Avatar freaks the living piss out of me.
It’s just a picture of Tim, with his computer animated eyes, eyebrows and mouth. They have just the right amount of exaggeration to them that it makes the Avatar a tad bit scary. At first, I thought this was just an initial reaction to Allen’s Avatar. But, when I pulled his site up again for this post the initial appearance was just jarring.
Heck, maybe I’m being a tad too sensitive here. So, I would like you to take a look and let me know. Just click on this link and tell me if you feel the way I do about this. By the way, a less scary Tim Allen can be seen regularly on Nick at Nite’s daily airings of Home Improvement.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck returns to The View on Monday
View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is coming back to the ABC show on Monday with her new son Taylor Thomas, who I believe used to star on Home Improvement.
Hasselbeck has been on maternity leave since October and has been living in Arizona (her hubby Tim is a quarterback with the Arizona Cardinals, who didn’t make the playoffs). The daytime show has been using a lot of celebrity guests to fill in Hasselbeck’s seat (and/or Barbara Walters’ seat, when she takes the day off from the show) including Dana Delany and Jessica Simpson (and many others, but they were the cohosts on the days I actually watched the show). This will be the first time all five hosts will be back together in a few months.
