Hip Hop Honors Logo The fifth annual VH1 Hip-Hop Honors will be taped on October 2nd at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The show will premiere on VH1 the following Tuesday, October 7th. The honorees and performers will be named later this summer. Last year’s celebration paid tribute to A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, WHODINI, Missy Elliott, the film Wild Style and Teddy Riley and Andre Harrell for New Jack Swing with appearances by Mos Def, LL Cool J, Salt-N-Pepa, Ne-Yo, Ciara, Eve, Chris Rock, Busta Rhymes and others.

Of the show, Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager for VH1, says, “Our VH1 Hip Hop Honors has grown into one of the most anticipated events in the hip hop community, drawing legends from back-in-the-day to the hottest stars of the genre today.”

But before the network fetes the innovators of hip-hop, VH1 will tape the 3rd annual Rock Honors on July 12th at the UCLA campus. This year the network is paying tribute to The Who. Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and The Flaming Lips will perform.

George Carlin’s Mark of Distinction

George Carlin

There once were seven words that you couldn’t say on TV. Luckily for George Carlin, you could say them on stage.

The 71-year-old comedian, whose half-century in stand-up has been spent pointing out the funnier foibles mankind has to offer, will receive the 2008 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

The honor will be presented to the bearded society-skewerer Nov. 10 at the JFK Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The ceremony will later be televised on PBS.

Richard Pryor was the first comic to receive the award in 1998. Past honorees include Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Lily Tomlin.

Kylie Minogue Gets Q Idol

Kylie Minogue Gets Q Idol

Back in 2005, Kylie Minogue was dealt a wicked hand when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  But two years later, she’s back in the game and everyone is taking notice.

The 39-year-old Aussie singer received the honor of the Q Idol Award yesterday in England.  The ceremony, which took place at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, took a moment to pay tribute to Minogue for having the courage to return to music after her plight with cancer.

And the next step for Kylie is coming quick.  She is set to release a brand new album, along with a declaration that she’s back and she’s bringing her A-game.

Other honorees at the Q Awards were Sir Paul McCartney (The Q Icon Award), Amy Winehouse (Best Album), Arctic Monkeys (Best Act in the World Today), and Kate Nash (Best Breakthrough Artist).
