Carell Clocks In for More Office
Michael Scott can look forward to putting in more long, hard, late nights at Dunder-Mifflin Scranton.
At least, that’s what he said.
The “he” in this case being cocreator, executive producer and star of the original British version of The Office, Ricky Gervais, who revealed in a posting on his official website that Steve Carell has renewed his contract for the NBC hit.
“Had some great news today about the American version of The Office,” Gervais wrote. “Steve Carell (now one of the most bankable film stars in the world) has just signed up for another three years with us.
“He is the hardest working man in Hollywood and the harder he works the better it is for me. I mean…well done Steve you are wonderful…He is a very nice man and deserves all his success. I am just as dedicated to my art without compromise but only between the hours of 9 and 3 p.m.”
In addition to revealing the contract coup, Gervais also confirmed another of NBC’s badly kept and somewhat fan-derided scoops: that a satellite Office is already in the works.
Earlier this month, word spread that Rashida Jones, who played Jim’s pre-Pam hookup, Karen, on the show and who currently has a talent holding deal with the network, would be heading up the new cast, though Gervais kept mum on any casting or potential story points.
“We are also working on a spinoff series of the American Office,” he wrote, “but I can’t tell you anything about that yet.”
Jam it anyway.

Years before the whole Rihanna/Chris Brown hookup, there was another hip hop couple making headlines - Nelly and Ashanti. And at last night’s pre-BET Awards dinner they were looking as hot as ever.
The “Hot in Herre” stud and his “Foolish” gal showed up at Los Angeles hot spot Vibiana looking top-notch. He was sporting a dark suit with a white striped button-up shirt, while she rocked a strapless magenta embroidered floor-length gown.
Though they’ve tried to keep their relationship on the down-low, Ashanti has recently been guilty of sending mixed messages. When asked if they’re engaged, she replied, “Oh no. Noooo! No engagement. But definitely in the future. Ha ha!”
“Me and Nelly, we’re good friends. We kick it - hang out a lot. The industry is very hard, so it’s good to have fun and lighten it up.”

With all of the beautiful weather as of late, it’s no wonder that Justin Timberlake was in the mood for a round of golf yesterday (June 17).
The “SexyBack” crooner was spotted out with a few friends at a local course, sporting a black screenprinted t-shirt with a pair of dark below-the-knee shorts and white golf shoes.
Not long into his round, Justin started to get fed up by the paparazzi presence, shortly thereafter blaming them for ruining his concentration before leaving the course after just two holes.
In related news, Timberlake, who has won 21 surfboards at the Teen Choice Awards, could be adding three more this year. The nominations for the 2008 TCAs were recently announced, and JT is up for three categories: Choice Music, Choice Hookup and Choice Male Artist.

With Hollywood romance as fleeting as it is, sometime you gotta go right to the source to confirm rumors. And Kristen Bell was more than happy to report on the status of her co-stars supposed hookup.
The new Heroes starlet was in attendance for the Alliance for Children’s Rights benefit in Beverly Hills earlier this week. She definitively denied that her co-stars Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia were anything more than friends.
Bell told press, “They’re just great friends. They’re not dating.” And it sounds like singlehood is running rampant on the set of the NBC drama… Bell is without a beau as well.
She commented, “I’m taking single life moment by moment. It’s uncomfortable for me because I haven’t been single in a long time. I’m a homebody. I’m a Blockbuster girl at heart.”
Something tells us that with a look as hot as her career, Kristen won’t be single for long.
