Banned Teeth Poster
Empire got sent a poster for Teeth, that has apparently been banned, and I can see why.
Teeth is a horror/comedy that follows a girl that has an unusual private area. I suppose it’s one of those ‘what if?’ movies, by that I mean some perverted writer must have been daydreaming about it, and then wondered ‘what if?’ and then somehow got the backing to make it into a movie.

Newbies You'll Love (No. 3): Reaper's Bret Harrison

As part of Totally Tube 2007, we're counting down Five Newbies You'll Love. Today, ladies and gentletubers, meet Number Three…Bret Harrison.
Who He Is: The star of the CW's new horror-comedy Reaper, fan of fanboy supreme Kevin Smith and, oh nothing, Adam Brody's BFF.
Where to Meet Him: On the CW, natch. On the show, he plays a guy whose parents sold his soul to the devil at birth, and the devil now wants his due. Assigned to become the devil's bounty hunter, he teams up with pals Sock (Tyler Labine) and Ben (Rick Gonzalez) to hunt demons escaped from hell and return them to their rightful home in Hades.
Why You'll Love Him: The series is hilarious and smart, just like him, and, oh heck, we sat down with the devil's latest protégé, so just read for yourself and you'll see why!

Q&A
So, what's it like being a Reaper?
It's great. It's maybe the most fun of any show I've ever worked on, to be completely honest. I think that's part of being in a cast where everybody is relatively the same age. And Ray Wise, who plays the devil, is crazier than all of us put together. He's always trying to get us to go out to this suspension bridge out in West Vancouver.
And base jump?
Yes. He's nuts. He's great.
Your character is sort of floating through life, unaware of what he wants to do. Can you relate?
One thing I always knew from an early age was that acting is what I wanted to do. Whether it was going to happen or not, I had no idea. But I go back to Oregon, where I'm from, and I have really good friends—it's not like people are wasting their lives away, but at the same time, they're like, "I don't know what I really want to do." And I think that's Sam. It's not that he's a complete deadbeat, but he definitely doesn't have a clue what he wants to do with his life right now, and I think Sam might be afraid of change.

Speaking of change, Sam has sort of accepted, at least for his mother's sake, that he has to be the devil's bounty hunter, but does there come a point when he's like, "I am the devil's bounty hunter, and I love it, and you can't take this job away from me"? Does he ever transition?
I hope so. A lot of times, these characters are reluctant, and they don't want to do this thing. And I'm always trying to play against that negativity, because at a certain point, I do think he will eventually get engaged. I mean, Spider-Man's bummed when it first happens, but then he's saying, "Wait a second, I can shoot webs out of my hands, and this is awesome!" I'm waiting for that moment.
Tyler Labine is a wack-job (in a fun way) of a best friend for you on the show. How's he in real life?
Actually, right now he's one of my best friends in real life. I swear, we're constantly working with each other and coming up with new ways to do things and improvise. "Oh, now, you say this!" We're not in that weird thing with actors that say, "Listen, man, you're not the director of the show." You know, like giving each other notes and stuff. We really are so open to it. We come up with different ways, and I think that's why the pilot worked so well, because we had Kevin Smith, who is the coolest director to work with.
He's awesome. Is he going to be back with you at all?
You know, I think so. He definitely wants to. There's schedules. There's politics. Being the actor, I get to not know all that stuff. Put it this way: He definitely wants to come back, and he's more behind the show than any celebrity director should be. He did a 7,000-seat panel for Comic-Con, and it was just supposed to be Kevin Smith, because he's the big comic guy. It wasn't supposed to be like, "Hey, I just shot the coolest show ever. Let's put this out in front of 7,000 people."
It looks awesome, and everyone loves the show. You've got a lot of people rooting for you. Hopefully, you'll be setting the new bar for success on the CW.
I know! Well, there's so much hype that it almost scares me a little bit. It's been leaked on the Internet. The studios don't care because they're, like, yeah, it's awesome.

Psych: Gus’s Dad May Have Killed An Old Guy!

(S02E10, sort of) “He’s going to shoot his eye out, isn’t he?” — Burton “Gus” Guster
“Yes he is.” — Shawn Spencer
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you — The Gusters. Yes, after a season and a half we finally get to meet the people that made Burton “Gus” Guster the man that he is today. I was starting to think that we would never meet the parents who kept Gus out of one of the most prominent high schools in the area. Perhaps they would have been like Vera on Cheers — heard and talked about but never seen. Luckily, the producers were generous enough to connect some pretty big faces to Gus’ lineage.
I find it very apt that Phylicia Rashad and Ernie Hudson were cast as Bill and Winnie Guster. Not because they were the perfect parents for Gus, but they fit right in with the retro reference sub-theme that can be found in most episodes of Psych. Of course, we all know Rashad as the beautiful and headstrong matriarch of the Huxtable family on The Cosby Show. And Ernie Hudson? Well, how can we forget him in the role of Winston Zeddemore in the classic 1984 horror comedy Ghostbusters (although, some do for one reason or another).
As parents, the Gusters do to Gus what millions of other parents do to their kids: treat them like little children. That, and they don’t seem to be impressed with the way his life has turned out so far. This is especially true when it comes to the continued relationship between their son and Shawn. They tend to believe that Shawn has been a bad influence on their little boy. Gosh, if they only knew what we knew.
Honestly, Gus’ friendship with Shawn has made him a much stronger person. Okay, Shawn having Gus smoke a whole pack of cigarettes when they were younger so he wouldn’t smoke again probably wasn’t one of those things that made him stronger. But, he has definitely grown as a person since he and Shawn started the Psych Detective Agency. I think that was displayed best when Gus pretty much told his parents off on the way they were treating him and his friendship with Shawn. in the end, despite this declaration from their son, Bill and Winnie still didn’t think their son was quite ready yet to enter the grown-up world.
Continuing the theme of family in this week’s holiday episode we have the continuing battle between Shawn Spencer and father Henry. Really, those two do love each other in a competitive, winner-take-all type of way. I see Henry’s way of thinking as ’You did good before, but can you do better now’ when it comes to Shawn and his abilities. That’s why they have the gift-guessing contest every year. But, now that the younger Spencer is using his special gift on a regular basis I feel that the advantage is more on him then it is on Henry. Hence, the reason why Shawn was able to know ahead of time that he was going to get ’Psych’-printed golf balls for Christmas (which I am sure will be sold at the USA Network site any moment now).
Over to Carlton. Poor Lassie, alone for Christmas and deathly afraid of snow globes (Psych snow globe shown on this episode should be on the website right…about…now). Luckily, Juliet is nice enough to have him over. As usual, big mistake to put Lassiter into a position dealing with social interaction. Nothing that kids want to hear more at Christmas than the Danish version of Santa has the jolly ol’ St. Nick using slaves to deliver toys. I think we now know why Carlton’s wife divorced him. By the way, having Lassie beat those kids at Wii boxing was a total falsehood — my 7-year-old daughter whips my butt all of the time at that game.
This week’s murder mystery was interesting. I knew who the murderer was once I saw the picture of that man and his lover. I just didn’t know how Shawn and Gus were going to piece it all together. Awkward moment of the night –Gus sniffing all of those women at the estate sale to see who smelled like a certain type of perfume.
Save for a early reference to A Christmas Story and brief mentions of The Tell-Tale Heart and Psycho this special episode of Psych was pretty retro-reference free. That’s fine, because the story itself was solid enough that it didn’t need to be peppered with a ton of 80’s and 90’s references that are normally used. Actually, I thought the scene where Gus and Shawn showed their fears about the Edgar Allen Poe story and Alfred Hitchcock movie, respectively, was telling about their two personalities. Gus is definitely the more bookish of the two, while Shawn is more pop culture in nature. But, we all knew that already, didn’t we?
The bad news is this is the only new episode of Psych for December. The good news is we won’t have to wait too long for new episodes of Psych since January 11th is the return date. Until then, have a great holiday.
Repo! The Genetic Opera!: “this isn’t Saw… Nor is it Sweeney Todd…”

Five weeks after Repo! The Genetic Opera! wrapped production, director Darren Lynn Bousman reports that a first cut of the film in is the can. And while that is a cause for celebration, Bousman is becoming more unsure of what the audience for this musical horror film might be.
“The truth of the matter is - I have no fucking CLUE what the public and movie goer is going to say about this movie…” Bousman writes in his latest blog entry. “As I have said numerous times - this isn’t SAW… Nor is it SWEENY TODD… It’s a hybrid of horror, comedy, and good old fashion ROCK and ROLL!”
Bousman hopes to garner a Rocky Horror-ish response, with people singing in the theaters.
“[that] is my TRUE dream of the this movie… That I walk into a theatre somewhere and hear the audience singing along to ZYDRATE ANATOMY - or WE STARTED THIS OPERA SHIT…”

Repo! The Genetic Opera! is set to hit theaters on April 25th 2008.
