Big Brother 10 - News, rumors, and speculation
Well, folks … it’s countdown time! Big Brother 10 premieres on Sunday, July 13 at 8 PM ET/PT. As I write this, casting has been completed but no formal announcements have been made. I will assure you that I won’t be in the house this season although I’ll be your fly on the wall. You can get your live feed reports here at TV. So, in a way, I’ll be in the house. But not in a way that the folks on the internet can rip me apart!
Despite the show being just two weeks away, there is little concrete news. But there are plenty of rumors and speculations floating about. Read on past the jump for scheduling news and lots of rumors.
Unfortunately, this season will be airing the same nights as last season. I personally didn’t care for the two consecutive nights as the houseguests had a flurry of activity jammed into just a few days with several days of down time. It doesn’t really affect those who just watch the shows, but it makes for very odd and sometimes very boring live feed viewing.
The schedule:
- Sunday 8 PM ET/PT
- Tuesday 9 PM ET/PT
- Wednesday 8 PM ET/PT
Confirmed facts:
Allison Grodner is once again the executive producer of the show while Arnold Shapiro bailed out before the start of last season. Julie Chen remains the host and will be once again handling the live eviction nights. There will be a live audience on eviction nights. If you live in the Los Angeles area or plan to visit there this summer, you can find the information about how to get tickets via Audiences Unlimited. Real.com will once again be offering the live feeds (for a fee, of course). Big Brother After Dark on ShoToo (Showtime sister network) will once again air the feeds nightly from 12 AM ET until 3 AM ET.
Rumors and speculation:
I scoured the internet gathering the most interesting rumors from sources such as JokersUpdates, casting director Robyn Kaas’ MySpace page, and more.
- The rooms will be decorated with themes from various decades from the ’50s to present day.
- Although the theme on recent promos is “Together Again,” that’s referring to Big Brother and the summer season, not that the houseguests will necessarily have any previous relationships.
- This cast will boast more diversity in ages, race, religion, and politics. (One can only pray this one is true!)
- The cast was selected for their strong and often opposing opinions on various issues in hopes of making for a more interesting season.
- There will be another winter season set for 2009.
- One of the finalists has already quit and an alternate was chosen.
- The finalists are expected to go into hotel sequester sometime this coming week.
Are you ready for BB10?
Big Brother 9: Final HOH competition, final eviction

(S09E34) “I was getting drownded!” - Sheila
Hey, I know I know the word is “drowned.” But I’m not Sheila, the single mom, and one of the final three houseguests on Big Brother 9. I guess I made the foolish decision to work for a living and not pin all my hopes and dreams of a happy future on appearing on a reality television show. She made the decision without seeing even one season of the show in its entirety. I’ve seen them all. I would never be on the show, never!
Read on past the jump for the full review of tonight’s episode.
Unlike last night’s not live show with Julie Chen, tonight was indeed live. Julie, fashion plate she likes to be, wore a yellow sweater and black slacks. I don’t think the yellow did much for her. With her complexion, it just made her look a bit washed out. That said, I believe Julie Chen has probably made better career choices than either Sheila or I have.
Head of Household - parts one and two
After the recraps of previous bits we’ve seen recrapped before, it was onto the Up the Creek first part of the three-part final head of household competition. Yeah, I said recraps. I meant it, too! Sheila’s cold. She’s “drownding.” The boys are taunting her. She hated Adam in the beginning, but he saved her. Now he’s her best friend.
But Ryan’s Diary room segment reveals that he had Adam do his dirty work by evicting Sharon so there would be no blood on his hands. So, it wasn’t loyalty to Sheila which caused Adam to vote Sharon out. It was his loyalty to Ryan! Julie cut in to tell the viewing audience that an hour before the eviction went down, Adam and Ryan agreed to vote out Sharon although their original plan was to vote out Sheila. Well, we could have predicted that would happen, right? It’s been one of the biggest seasons ever for fickle-minded flip-flopping finagling. (On a side note and for reader participation, please say “fickle-minded flip-flopping finagling” five times fast.)
Now that you’ve completed the first participation portion of this review, let’s carry on. We’re back to Up the Creek. Ryan informs us that taunting Sheila was a part of the plan. I personally don’t think they needed that. Just looking at Sheila, no matter how much she tells us in Diary Room bits that she wants to win, there’s no way she would be able to beat either guy in this comp. Thinking of her son (did you realize she’s a single mom?), she held on a bit longer. But then she thought she was getting hypothermia and crumpled, falling into the little fake pond below the fake falls. Hey, she just can’t risk getting sick and will win the second part! Need I say that the only comp she’s won all season was given to her?

Once Sheila heads inside to get dry, Ryan tells Adam he’ll have his back if he lets go of the tow rope. Adam follows his bro in crime and lets go. Ryan wins the comp. No surprises there, none at all. In the following Diary Room segment Adam gloats, saying Sheila thinks he’s with her, Ryan thinks he’s with him. Adam really doesn’t care as long as one of them bring him into the final two. I can’t really fault him for thinking along those lines.
Round two of the three-part comp pits Adam against Sheila. Both want to win it. Sheila thinks she can trust Adam, but knows that it would be better to win it. Now, that would pit her against Ryan at the end. I don’t think she can win anything against either of them, but I could be looking at this from a tainted viewpoint.
This is one of the comps which no one can really know if they’re throwing because they do it separately. One is secluded in a room inside the house while the other does it, then the first one has to return to the house and doesn’t get to watch the second go through the comp. In the backyard, there was a huge hamster wheel, big enough for a houseguest hamster to stand in. On one side on the wheel was a maze holding balls encased in plexi-glass. Inside the maze are ten balls representing the ten HOH reigns. They had to work the wheel to shake out the ball they wanted and post the HOH winners in chronological order.
The order was the least of their worries. Adam immediately decided on a tactic for moving the wheel, but Sheila had problems. Doesn’t Sheila have problems with just about every comp we’ve seen her in? She kept losing her balance. She fussed about it being like a roller coaster and making her dizzy. She couldn’t move the wheel the right way to get the ball out. On and on, she had woes. Meanwhile, Adam, the man with a plan, seemed to make quick work of the task at hand. In the end tally, Adam trounced her. Sheila took 33 minutes, 26 seconds. Adam’s time was less than half of hers — 14 minutes, 55 seconds. Adam won the second part of the HOH and will face Ryan in the third part.
Sheila is no longer in the running for the HOH win. Her only hope is that one of the guys will take her along in the final two. She told Adam she has to accept her “fates.” I suppose, in her shoes, it’s best to have more than one fate awaiting, right? Adam, still giddy from his own win, alternated between being happy for himself and apologizing to her for winning. He told her he would do his best to win the next part. But I noticed he pretty conveniently sidestepped the issue of taking her to the final two if he does win.

Ryan came into the picture and the Testosterone Two did a manly sporty congratulatory handshake dance. Ryan is thrilled that Adam proved his loyalty to him yesterday (Up the Creek) and that he won today. In his excitement, Adam blurted out something about himself winning the half-million. Oh, no! That’s not loyalty! How dare he want to win! Ryan went on to tell us that he just might keep Sheila instead of Adam when he wins the last part. If people wonder why I don’t care for Ryan, just reread the above.
Julie briefly chatted with the three. Sheila overdid her minute of fame going on and on about how nervous she is, how scary it is, how helpless she feels, how she now loves Adam after initially hating him. Shut up, Sheila. Please. My ears are bleeding. When she asked them to rate their chances with the jury on a scale of 1-10, Ryan said he was a 3. He thinks a lot of them have reason not to vote for him. Sheila rambled on and on (shut up, Sheila), finally being pressured by Julie for a number, she said 4. Adam gave himself a 5. He also got in that Sheila buttered up each jury member before and as they left the house.
The Jury House
What’s up with them not showing Natalie entering the house? My imagination is running wild with possible scenarios which would have prevented us from seeing her entrance. Maybe Matt was initially to nasty to her? Maybe they all were? She left the house practically in shock. Maybe she totally lost it and they didn’t want to show her breakdown. I just don’t know.
What was surprising is that everyone seems to be getting along and having fun in the house. That is, everyone but Matt and Natalie. Joshuah has become Matt’s new best friend and I know I didn’t see that one coming. Joshuah tried to get Matt to be nicer to Natalie, too.
But the most priceless part of this segment was the look of illness on James’ face when Sharon entered the house. Wait, I take that back … it’s a tie between that and Chelsia picking up on the wink and nod exchange between Ryan and Adam while watching Sharon’s eviction. Aha! Sharon now knows Ryan betrayed her and that he was in on her being voted out.
The final part of the HOH comp
As always, the final part of the final HOH comp is a question and answer set up in the living room. There are partitions between Ryan and Adam so they don’t know what the other one is answering until Julie reveals the answers. Julie explained she will read a statement from one of the jury members and they have to tell her which finish is the correct one. Each correct answer wins a point. After six questions, the one with the highest score wins HOH. They’ve done this before, so much for originality.
Matt said, “I wish I was nicer to Natalie/James.” The correct answer was Natalie (though you can’t tell it by the jury house). Both had that one right.
Chelsia said, “The moment I expect to read about in my hometown paper is giving up a half-million for a showmance or telling everyone off as I left the house.” It was the showmance answer. Both got it wrong.
Joshuah said, “Joshuah or Sharon … is the most deserving to win.” He said himself, of course. Ryan got a point, Adam had it wrong.
James said, “I think that what will happen to Chelsia and me is that we’ll take a bike ride around the world or we’ll sink.” He said sink, which shows that shomance is over. Both got it right.
Natalie said, “The best showmance in the house was Natalie/Mattie or James/Chelsia.” She chose the latter, both got it wrong.

Sharon said, “The biggest lie I told in the house was that my back hurt causing me to drop in the Glass Houses HOH comp or I never lied.” She did throw the comp! (I knew it!) Both got it wrong, but Ryan looked like he could kick himself because he bought her lie. It didn’t really matter anyway. Ryan is the new head of household, the most powerful one ever. He gets to choose who he’ll take to the final two.
The final eviction
There were no surprises here, I don’t think. Ryan kept his bromance bud Adam and evicted Sheila. Well, I was a bit surprised that for all of her crying and hysterics, Sheila was shedding not one real tear! From the time she gave her little pleading speech to be saved to throughout her talk with Julie — NO TEARS. Lots of crying, but it all came across as one of those fake cries I’d do as a child which would garner “I’ll give you something to cry about” from my father.
I also have a bit of a problem with Julie about the interview. Why, oh why did she just keep at her? The single mom bit, the “did you learn anything even though you didn’t win the money?” Ack! I thought the interview would never end. Julie was prolonging my own personal agony. My ears were bleeding, my mind was screaming. Shut up, Sheila! Perhaps I should feel sorry for her, but I guess I’m just a cold heartless kind of gal. Maybe if she had shed a real tear, had I seen one tear roll down her cheek … nah, I still wouldn’t feel sorry for her.
Now it’s time for Part Two of our reader participation … here’s a poll for you! No cheating, no tear-less hysterics at the results and, most of all … no wagering!
Big Brother 9: Live feeds report - April 23
It’s down to the final three in the Big Brother 9 house and this is what excitement is all about! Tonight is the penultimate show of the season and those zany houseguests are ready to break free!
Or, perhaps, I might be just being a bit silly. After all, even though the houseguests may have their stress, what about me? I’ve written about them day in and day out all season long. Don’t I deserve the half million dollars more than they do? Aren’t I deserving? It’s not about Sheila; it’s all about ME!
For show spoilers, read on past the jump.
Well, since the part two of the head of household competition went down, there really isn’t a heck of a lot of new news. You know already that Ryan won the first part when Adam deliberately threw it to him after Sheila dropped out. The second part had Adam against Sheila and he obliterated her. The third part is tonight on the live show with Ryan up against Adam for the last HOH.
The guys have promised to take each other to the final two, so Sheila should be out of the picture tonight as she cannot win HOH. Supposedly, the deal is that Adam might even just throw the comp to Ryan so Ryan can do the dirty work of voting Sheila out. If Adam wins, we might see something unpredictable, but I think he will stick to his word with Ryan. He has Sheila’s vote for the win no matter what happens.
In house crumbs:
- Although she is sort of resigned to leave, Sheila still worked the tears and loyalty card on Adam.
- Adam, once again, is in a dilemma. Does he listen to his heart or mind?
- Sheila cried.
- Adam cried.
- Jackie did not cry. Jackie just wants them to stop crying. It’s scaring her cat.
- BB wouldn’t let Sheila have her Tylenol PM. Good. She needs to get off of those.
- Ryan told Adam that if he (Adam) goes to the end with Sheila, he’d lose.
- Sheila cried some more.
- Ryan questioned Adam about whether the Diary Room is trying to influence him to keep Sheila.
- The feeds were immediately blocked. “Houseguests, you are not allowed to discuss your Diary Room segments with other houseguests.”
- All three houseguests had to pack today.
- Adam told Ryan that Sharon was saying he (Adam) would “f” Ryan over in the end. Ryan says she was just trying to get to stay in the house by turning them against each other.
- Sheila seems to be hanging onto a string of hope that Adam might win and choose her.
- But it seems like a done deal that Adam will throw it to Ryan.
We’ll see in a few hours!
Big Brother 9 - Live feeds special report - HOH comp part 2
Things are moving along for the live final part of the three-part head of household competition to be seen on Wednesday’s Big Brother 9. That’s right. Only the last part will be actually live. Tonight’s episode will show the power of veto and the eviction which gets the house down to the final three.
The winner of the first part of the HOH comp goes up against the winner of the second part on Wednesday night. That winner chooses who will be with him or her in the final two facing the jury. A lot of the action has already happened. Read on past the jump for extreme show spoilers!
A brief recap of what I’ve already covered is in order. Ryan won the power of veto. He chose not to use it. Ryan and Adam made a deal to evict Sharon because they thought Sheila would be easier to beat in the final HOH comp. Ryan won the first part of the three-part HOH comp.
And, that brings us to today. The early part of the day was boring. I thought yesterday was bad, but this might have been worse. What little bit of the day before the feeds were blocked were full of Adam and Ryan gloating. They’re sure they will be the final two and have even made a triumphant manly kind of handshake which is only missing chest butting. Yep, they’re the Testosterone Two. Sheila seems to realize that she might not be in the final two.
Well, she certainly took another step in that direction today. They held the second part of the HOH comp — Sheila against Adam. Sheila lost. So, during tomorrow night’s live show, it will be Adam and Ryan competing in the third part. Whoever wins that part is the new HOH and will choose one of the two remaining houseguests to bring into the final two.
In house crumbs:
- Sheila told Adam that if he wins, she would like to be in the final two.
- She said he has her vote for the win no matter what happens, whether he takes her or not.
- Sheila is pretty resigned to losing.
- Adam is all psyched up for tomorrow.
- Adam and Ryan have vowed to take each other into the final two.
- The guys have decided it’s win-win for them. Adam did the dirty work of voting out Sharon, Ryan will win tomorrow night and vote out Sheila (dirty work). At that point, they’re both winners and it’s up to the jury.
Unless Adam or Ryan flip, it should be them in the final two. If it is Adam and Ryan, Adam may stand a better chance with the jury. We’ll see!
