Louis Leterrier Would Do More Hulk!

At the world premiere for The Incredible Hulk, ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! briefly talked to director Louis Leterrier about whether he would be on board to make a sequel.
“I’ll do another ‘Hulk’ movie any day of the week. I love it! I love the character, I love the TV show. I love that he’s an anti-hero,” Leterrier told us exclusively.
“It starts with a great story and great cast. If you like movies, you’ll like ‘Hulk,’” he added.
As Marvel are planning The Avengers and other superhero movies, would Leterrier step outside of the green zone?
“I’ll direct anything that Marvel puts out. I’m going to be camping out at the Marvel office to direct anything they want,” he said.
Director Promises That Captain America is in The Incredible Hulk

On Friday, we ran a transcript of an interview where director Louis Leterrier told G4 that in The Incredible Hulk “you might see Captain America Himself!” We saw the film earlier in the week, and were unable to see the Captain on screen. Leterrier later insisted to Collider that Captain America is still featured in the movie, but wouldn’t reveal the location:
“No, I can’t. Otherwise it’s not fun. Are you crazy? It’s an Easter egg,” said Leterrier. “It’s an Easter egg. It’s not like oh, it’s Captain America and it changes everything. It’s still a Hulk movie, but it’s really Captain America and it’s there, you’ll see. It’s the real deal. You have to look for it.”
But in an interview with SOS Hollywood, Leterrier not only reveals which scene the cameo occurs, but also revealed that the scene was actually cut out of the finished film:
“There’s a point when Bruce Banner gives up on his quest for the cure and decide to kill himself. So he travels far North and reaches the Arctic Circle. You might have seen bits of it in some of the promos. The result was a very dark and strong scene, which Marvel, me and everyone else’s considered to be too hard to young audiences to take, so we’ve cut it. Having that said, when Bruce arrives at his destination he meets up with Captain America! At some point this week, we will make it available on the internet – but I cannot tell you where or when – and the material will definitely be on the DVD.”

Is Captain America’s cameo in the film somewhere or not? If it’s in the cut of the film that I saw on screen, then it is in the opening credit sequence which is done over a montage of clips which features a bevy of other great easter eggs including Nick Fury and Stark Industries. The Tony Stark scene which is being advertised on television felt like it was originally intended to be attached to the end of the credits (what they call - a button), but was instead featured before the credits.
There is a possibility that Marvel might attach the Captain America scene to the end of the credits when the film begins to play to public audiences later this week. Marvel Studios did the same thing for Iron Man, holding the Samuel L Jackson/Nick Fury cameo from the advance press screenings, as a treat for the fans.
Favreau Totally Blogs, Questions Iron Man II Date
So this is how it works in Hollywood, now? You direct a huge summer blockbuster, you get a greenlight on your sequel and then have to bitch about your bosses…on your MySpace page?
Iron Man director Jon Favreau has been deftly fielding fanboy questions on a MySpace forum this week and has also lobbed open complaints about the ambitious schedule laid out by Marvel execs. The April 2010 release date for Iron Man II doesn’t sit well with him, and here’s what he said:
“Neither Robert [Downey Jr.] nor I were consulted about this and we are both concerned about how realistic the date is,” he writes. “We owe it to the fans to have a great version of IM2 and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.”
See, after Iron Man’s huge debut this summer, Marvel announced a jam-packed lineup assembling the classic Avengers superhero team, including Thor (2010), Iron Man II (2010), Captain America (2011) and The Avengers (2011). Favreau says he’s keen on directing The Avengers, too, and feels he won’t have time. “It’s been five weeks,” he writes, “since the one and only phone call my reps have gotten from Marvel.”
Other revelations from the thread:
- Favreau has plans for classic baddie/martial-arts master The Mandarin: “[He is] Iron Man’s nemesis and will be incorporated in the sequel.” As will ironclad buddy War Machine.
- While Downey Jr., as Tony Stark, shows up in this week’s The Incredible Hulk, Favreau sees a Hulk cameo in Iron Man II.
- Longtime Iron Man geek Ghostface Killah shot a cameo for the film, and it should surface as an outtake on the DVD.
- Favreau liked the Hulk movie. “I saw it last night,” he writes, “and it was a lot of fun.”
So how will Marvel execs respond? We’re keeping on eye on their Facebook wall to find out…
The Incredible Hulk Trailer Description
In a report from Toy Fair Germany, an AICN scooper named Mark Single claims to have seen what he believes to be the first trailer for Universal’s The Incredible Hulk prequel/reboot. Here is the description:
“It was great to see the first footage of the INCREDIBLE HULK. I think the Ang Lee movie was terrible, but I have a lot of faith in this one.
“[It] opens with Edward Norton meditating. We see images of a lab, experiments, Banner escaping from the (Russian?) military (led by William Hurt and Tim Roth), running in the streets, kissing Liv Tyler, guns, shooting, more running… The ‘trailer’ ends with Abomination walking towards Hulk. Remember the end of Rocky III? Apollo Creed wants to hit Rocky in their friendly duel? That’s exactly the way the trailer ends. Abomination wants to hit Hulk. Hulk wants to hit Abomination, but before it actually happens the trailer is over. Abomination looks like a Hulk with the Voldemort face from the first Harry Potter movie. A really mean motha. He sure is a great opponent. I thought the shown footage was awesome. It promises much more action than the Ang Lee movie, a great love story and an even greater fight. Edward Norton makes a great Bruce Banner. He isn’t that muscular which makes his transformation into Hulk much more interesting and exciting. Imagine John Cena as Bruce Banner! That would be completely wrong, wouldn’t it?”
The big complaint about Ang Lee’s Hulk (aside from some of the early CG) was the lack of action. I mean, what was with that dog fight anyways? This new trailer seems to tackle that conception head on, saying to fans “This time it will be different.” And I love the idea of that. However, in a day and age when secrets are slowly released through officially filtered channels, I’m surprised they would give away both The Hulk and Abomination in the first trailer. But hey, like I said, maybe that’s they need to in order to convey this new movie more action message.
