Ad placement gone wrong - VIDEO

hotels.comDigg has noticed a case of really unfortunate ad placement for Hotels.com during an ABC news cast. Right after a commercial airs touting the hotel bargains at the site, a news report begins about how Hotels.com users are at risk for credit card fraud.

Video after the jump…

At least we can be certain that news reporting is not being influenced by advertisers. Or maybe Hotels.com simply doesn’t have the influence that, say, the tobacco lobby once had.

I do wonder what event the newscast was talking about (it was cut off before enough details could be given). I think it was this news item from 2006 which involved a stolen laptop from an Ernst & Young auditor which contained the credit card information for Hotels.com users. In which case it represents a security breach more of Ernst & Young than Hotels.com. You’d think the crew behind Tech Watch would have at least moved the commercial to a different commercial break to alleviate the irony.

Have any of you seen a similar situation of an unfortunately placed commercial?

Six Feet Under: Ecotone

If you haven’t seen "Ecotone" yet, I won’t spoil it for you. Not at least - to use a newspaper term for the top half of the front page - above the fold.

But if you have already seen "Ecotone," or even perhaps if you haven’t, then you will want to read on.

Peter KrauseNathaniel Fisher- 1965-2005.

"Holy…

And how did we know thee.

Nate’s dead. He’s gone. I have to admit I am surprised. And since only 33 percent of you predicted this in the poll we ran on Nate’s fate, I have to think most of you are as well.

In lesser hands, the first 45 minutes of "Ecotone" would be a tease. Nate is shown snapping out of his possibly climax-induced AVM episode at Maggie’s quicker than was expected, and much quicker than was feared. He recognizes everyone, jokes, and is his flippant self.

During the episode, characters have some redeeming moments. In a fantasy sequence, Ruth plays out her hatred of most of the men that have been in her life. Vanessa admits that her hostility to Rico is a direct result of being scared. Claire and her new very pro Iraq-war friend from work start out their first date with a highly political argument- a tiff that is quickly forgotten when they get THE CALL.

Brenda is among the first to arrive, but as soon as Nate has the strength to talk to Brenda alone, he tells her their life together is over. At least as far as he is concerned, the energy is gone from their marriage. He retreats to a dream sequence in which he is apparently lost to the sea, in the same ocean that was to carry the lifeless body of his first wife, Lisa.

And soon, the machines he is being monitored with in the hospital sing their most ominous monotone song. The song that creates tears more than any other ever written.

If indeed Nate’s body was compromised and then rendered for the ages  by the jolt of  an  adulterous liaison, that is the utmost irony. A discharge that in some cases creates life ultimately took his.

So with only three Six Feet Under episodes to go, what happens next? Post a Comment and let us know.

U.K. on Martha: Not a Good Thing

Martha Stewart

House of Stuart? Yes. House for Stewart? Not a chance.

Connecticut blue blood Martha Stewart has been refused entry to Britiain, with the U.K. Border Agency reportedly denying her a visa as a result of her insider-trading conviction four years ago.

According to the Daily Telegraph, which first reported the rebuff, Stewart was due to touch down across the pond this weekend, and was booked to speak at the Royal Academy as well as meet with several fashion and leader industry heavyweights.

“It is a bit silly given some of the other people allowed into the country,” an official told the paper.

You think?

“She has engagements with English companies and business leaders and hopes this can be resolved so that she will be able to visit soon,” Charles Koppelman, chairman of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, said in a statement.

Britain’s Home Office, which runs the U.K. Border Agency and has in the past prevented Snoop Dogg from entering the country, said it does not comment on individual cases but acknowledged they do their best to keep certain undesirables off their shores.

“We continue to oppose the entry to the U.K. of individuals where we believe their presence in the United Kingdom is not conducive to the public good or where they have been found guilty of serious criminal offenses abroad.”

Stewart was found guilty of conspiracy, making false statements and obstruction of agency proceedings on Dec. 27, 2001, as a result of her everything-must-go sale of ImClone stock. She was sentenced to five months in prison and five months of house arrest.

Those Brits deny Stewart yet embrace Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty? Guess they are the masters of irony after all.

Ben and Jen Take Violet to Nursery School

Ben and Jen Take Violet to Nursery School

It was a big day for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner yesterday (June 16), as they took their daughter Violet to get registered for nursery school.

And the doting parents displayed an excited-yet-nervous disposition as they made their way around the First Presbyterian Nursery School in Santa Monica, California.  Then again, with their little girl getting ready to start school, it’s understandable that they’d be a bit apprehensive.

The “Good Will Hunting” stud looked to be enjoying the irony of wearing a nametag as he smiled for the paparazzi with his 2 ½ year old daughter, who was smiling from ear to ear.

Meanwhile his “Juno” actress wife was busy checking the place out, making sure that everything was perfect for her little girl to start school.  You gotta love their hands-on approach to parenting!
