Star Trek Teaser Trailer

Tired of viewing that crappy YouTube handicam version? The teaser trailer for JJ Abrams’ Star Trek is now online in high definition. I know a lot of trek fans are not to happy with this first look. I love the idea of trying to ground Trek in U.S. space travel history. I really think that things like this might be able to bring a whole new audience into the series. For a non Trekkie, the series and movies are instantly jarring. Too geeky, too sci-fi. I think JJ might be on to something here.
You can watch the teaser in High Definition on Yahoo.com. Star Trek hits theaters on December 25th 2008.
Star Trek Teaser Trailer Description
Someone has posted the description of the JJ Abrams Star Trek teaser trailer over on the HollywoodChicago message boards, and I have confirmed through multiple sources that this is legit. If you don’t want to know, don’t read any further:
Paramount logo. Bad Robot logo. Black, suddenly some sparks (very saturated, Michael Bay looking cinematography) We hear an old NASA radio countdown: “30 sec and counting.” Close up of a timeless guy with goggles leaning down doing some weilding and sparks flying around. He lifts his googles — slightly futuristic head covering. It’s not a space suit, btw. The dude leans down and wields some more — he’s standing on big metal. “FROM DIRECTOR J.J. ABRAMS” (blue font with a nice lens flare)
Some Kennedy speech about space flight: “The eyes of the world now look to space.” People walking around the saucer section. The wielders are everywhere, showing size. We hear, “The Eagle has landed.” Huge overhead shot pans across, suddenly showing what looks like miles of scaffolding underneath. Title: “THE FUTURE BEGINS” Really impressive shot from by the nacelle(?) of people all over the ship, and you can see a huge industrialize city or shipyard in the background. It’s being built on Earth, not in space. Neil Armstrong: “One small step for man…” Camera slowly cranes up over the whole saucer section.
Then we hear then Leonard Nimoy’s line: “Space, the final frontier,” and the familiar “Star Trek” theme horns. The shot continues, revealing the writing on the top of the saucer — “U.S.S. Enterprise,” and these huge aircraft-like warp engines in the background. Technically, the first reveal of what we’re seeing. Just the Starfleet log (no title).
Title card: “UNDER CONSTRUCTION” “CHRISTMAS 2008”
What do you guys think? The new teaser trailer will be attached to Cloverfield, which hits theaters on 1-18-08.
Star Trek Screenwriter Admits That William Shatner Cameo Is Still Possible
Star Trek co-writer Roberto Orci is now saying that William Shatner might appear in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek prequel/reboot after all.
“Still, it could happen,” Orci admitted after explaining to SciFi that the problem is two fold: “One, from our point of view, we are still hoping to find a way. Secondly, one of the difficulties that was brought up and discussed with Shatner when we all met him and pitched him ideas is that Trek fans are sticklers for their canon. [And,] unfortunately, Shatner’s Captain Kirk was killed in Star Trek VII [1994’s Generations].”
But Shatner will never be written into the script if the writers strike continues.
“From my point of view, it’s a very long shoot, and things change. It’s just whether we can figure it out.”
Call my cynical, but I continue to believe that a Shatner cameo has already written. Orci, Kurtzman, Abrams and Shatner have agreed to deny deny deny to keep the surprise, and many of Paramount brass have also been kept out of the loop. Could I be totally off base? Well, yeah…
Movie Trailer Tracking: Indiana Jones 4, The Dark Knight, Star Trek, Horton Hears a Who, Inkheart, and Semi Pro

George Lucas originally told press that the trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would hit theaters around Thanksgiving, but before Christmas. Thanksgiving has come and went, and speculation that the Indy 4 trailer will be attached to Disney’s National Treasure 2 is looking unlikely. Coming Soon is now reporting that the teaser will hit theaters in February attached to The Spiderwick Chronicles. This sounds like a terrible idea for me. The National Treasure sequel seems like a better targeted film. And why is Paramount giving up the chance to attach the trailer to Sweeney Todd at the end of the month?
We’ve previously told you that seven minutes of The Dark Knight will be attached to the IMAX version of I Am Legend on December 14th, but did you know that a new Batman trailer will also be attached to the traditional release?
ScreenRant is reporting that the teaser trailer for JJ Abrams’ Star Trek reboot will be attached to Cloverfield, which opens on January 18th 2008.
I saw a horrendous trailer for Inkheart attached to The Golden Compass, which hits theaters on December 7th 2007. My friend Alex Billington also tells me that a new hilarious trailer for Semi-Pro was attached to his screening. My Fox sources say that a second trailer for the computer animated Dr. Suess adaptation Horton Hears a Who will also be attached to this New Line release.
