Johnny Depp on the Set of Michael Mann’s Public Enemies

These last few months have seen a crop of photos showing Johnny Depp as proto-gangster John Dillinger in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies (July 1st, 2009). Here’s another via Collider showing the actor/character in more casual time-appropriate attire, complete with ruby red shades. Nice pants. The site has other photos of Depp with a Corona and co-star Stephen Dorf, who plays one of Dillinger’s fellow bank robbers, Homer Van Meter.

If you’re wondering, no bloggable photos have surfaced from the set of Christian Bale playing Melvin Purvis, the ambitious FBI head who lead the crackdown resulting in Dillinger’s 1934 death outside a Chicago theater. The film is based on the real events as depicted in Bryan Burroughs’s non-fiction account of the same name.

Most of the year, he calls France home, but Johnny Depp was spotted in Los Angeles, California yesterday, returning to his family for a Father’s Day celebration.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” stud took a private plane to LA, where he was seen shortly after landing as he made his way to a chauffeured SUV, en route to see his kids.

Depp has been spending the lion’s share of his time lately in Chicago where he’s been filming “Public Enemies,” a film set during the Great Depression involving an organized crime ring.

Johnny plays ganster John Dillinger, who, together with Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum), is trying to outrun the FBI.  “Public Enemies” is slated for a July 1, 2009 release.

Causing a small town frenzy, Johnny Depp took to the set of his new movie in Columbus, Wisconsin on Monday (March 17).

The Pirates of the Caribbean heartthrob and his Hollywood crew are filming Public Enemies, in which Depp plays 1930’s bank robber John Dillinger.

According to local press, directors kept fans blocks away from the filming - but hundreds of Depp lovers flocked to Columbus, trying to get a glimpse of the Hollywood star.

“He rolled down his dark window as he rode by and waved at all of us as we were waiting,” told a fan, adding, “I never thought a big movie would come here or anywhere near us, so it’s kind of exciting.”

Press reports tell that Johnny and his film crew will be in Wisconsin for a few more days, before moving on to film at other locations.

Johnny Depp: Clean Shaven!

Johnny Depp: Clean Shaven!

We haven’t seen him this clean cut since his days as “Ed Wood” way back in the day.  And Johnny Depp seems to be embracing the cleaned-up look.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor was spotted on the set of his new movie “Public Enemies” on Wednesday in full period costume.  He graciously waved to fans in between takes, and looked to be enjoying himself.

Then, yesterday Depp took some time out of his busy shooting schedule in Columbus, Wisconsin to shake a few hands and pose for a few pictures.  And we must say, he’s really committed to looking as close to American gangster John Dillinger as possible.

Johnny is starring alongside Christian Bale, Channing Tatum, and Marion Cotillard in a flick about the Feds trying to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s.
