The Break-Up Actor, Wife Have a Son
The Break-Up actor John Michael Higgins and his wife, actress Margaret Welsh, welcomed a baby boy Tuesday.
Walter Lloyd Higgins was born at 8 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He weighed in at 8 lbs., 2 oz. “Parents and baby are doing well,” their rep, Jeff Raymond, said in a statement.
Higgins, 43, played Jennifer Aniston’s ambiguously gay brother Richard in the summer’s hit comedy. He’s also a staple in Christopher Guest’s mockumentaries: He played Michael McKean’s fussy dog-grooming partner in 2000’s Best in Show and Jane Lynch’s clueless husband 2003’s A Mighty Wind.
In the fall, he’ll appear in Guest’s For Your Consideration, and he recently completed filming Evan Almighty with Steve Carell.
Welsh’s credits include appearances on TV’s Boston Legal, Grey’s Anatomy and The Practice.
Ticked off Jamie Lee Curtis vents on Oprah - VIDEO
I’m not a regular Oprah watcher, but on Monday I happened to see actress Jamie Lee Curtis’ appearance. I’ve been really curious about Jamie lately, especially since seeing her on those Activia yogurt commercials. Damn, she’s just two years younger than I am and she looks great! What is in that yogurt anyway?
But Jamie Lee was on Oprah to vent. Turns out that the cover shot she did for AARP magazine, which the editors chose to proclaim as a nude shot, was a sham. The picture was not a naked photo shoot. She was wearing a strapless top and was photographed in a swimming pool. The illusion of nudity was created by the way they cropped the picture. Jamie Lee said she was shocked. She held up a copy of the magazine and said to Oprah and the world, “Isn’t it fascinating that this constitutes being naked. What the f*ck are we talking about? In my world, this is called strapless. I didn’t go around saying I was topless.”
It was really great to see Jamie so animated and dynamic. I know I may be off on a toot here, but I think she’s ready for a TV show. I could see her in a sitcom or dramedy in the next year or so. She looks good and she’s a terrific comic actress. And she has a TV background; remember Anything But Love with Richard Lewis? I do. She was wonderful. On the big screen, I’ll forget about Christmas with the Kranks because she really was the best reason to see Freaky Friday (sorry Lindsay fans).
Anyway, I think those commercials are the prelude to a TV return for Jamie Lee Curtis. Call me crazy, but if I’m right, remember you read it here first (unless someone else beat me to the punch).
Speaking of commercials, have you seen the really funny DirecTV series with actors John Michael Higgins, Ed Begley, Jr. and Don Lake? The same actors — who are part of Christopher Guest’s hilarious satiric films — Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration — are playing executives in a big Cable Corporation, desperately coming up with ways to beat DirecTV. It turns out that those commercials were directed by Christopher Guest, who is married to Jamie Lee Curtis.
Oh, one more thing. Higgins, Begley and Lake are also part of the Arrested Development “family.” TV has mentioned before that there is a lot of noise about a possible Arrested Development movie. We’re not the only ones talking about an AD movie. Check out Keith Olbermann.
Evan Almighty Movie Trailer to Premiere During The Office
The trailer for Universal Pictures’ Bruce Almighty sequel, Evan Almighty, will premiere during NBC’s Night at the Office three hour marathon event.
The Night at the Office event will air on March 29th from 8:00-11:00pm eastern (7:00pm-10:00pm central).
Steve Carell, reprises his role as the polished, preening newscaster Evan Baxter, the next one anointed by God to accomplish a holy mission. Director Tom Shadyac’s (The Nutty Professor, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty) new film follows Evan, newly elected to Congress, as he shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God (Morgan Freeman) appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark. But his befuddled family just can’t decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions.
Evan Almighty also stars Lauren Graham, John Goodman, John Michael Higgins, Jimmy Bennett, Wanda Sykes and Jonah Hill.
The movie will be released on June 22nd 2007.
