Huey Lewis’ Pineapple Express Theme Song

The rumors are true. Seth Rogen was able to convince Huey Lewis to record a title theme song for the upcoming Judd Apatow stoner comedy Pineapple Express.
“It is called Pineapple Express, cleverly,” director David Gordon Green told movieweb. “Our only input was, we told him we wanted it to sound like his 80s work that we loved so much. And we wanted to have the plot in it. And we wanted to have him say the title as many times as he could. There is a lot of alto sax. It is kind of like that ‘other’ Back to the Future Huey Lewis song. Not ‘Power of Love’ but ‘Back in Time’. Yeah.”
Here are the lyrics from the song’s chorus:
We got trouble,
we got to get out of here.
I’ve got you,
you’ve got me.
We are as high as we can be.
That’s all right.
How did we get into this mess?
Pineapple Express!
Sounds like an instant classic to me! Unfortunately we’ll have to wait until August 8th 2008 to hear it. But for now, enjoy this vintage music video for Huey Lewis & the News’ Power of Love which features a cameo of Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown with his time traveling Delorean.
Discuss: How cool is Huey Lewis?
Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell to Star in Judd Apatow’s Sherlock Holmes

Sacha Baron Cohen will play Holmes, and Will Ferrell, Watson, in a comedic take on Sherlock Holmes for super-producer Judd Apatow. To avoid confusion, last month we reported on Guy Ritchie’s forthcoming, unrelated “Bond-like” take of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic English sleuth for Warner Bros.
No director is attached, and the flick, which see the two comedic stars re-teaming for the second time after their smash, Talladega Nights, is untitled at this time. Etan Cohen (Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder, no relation to Sacha) is writing the script for Columbia Pictures.
If it were not for the involvement of Judd Apatow and Etan Cohen, I could easily see this project wandering off into the realm of broad family comedy and “hang glider hi-jinks.” Talladega Nights, which Apatow produced, has its “low brow” and “class-ist” detractors, but there is some really smart, subversive comedy and writing therein. Also, Walker Texas Ranger. It’s tied with Stranger Than Fiction as my favorite Will Ferrell film thus far, and if Ferrell and Cohen can once again match or top their performances, their Sherlock Holmes could conjure Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein…or Beavis and Butt-Head. All counts of “Apatow-fatigue” aside, we’re looking forward to this one either way.

Cohen, Ferrell Feel Right at Holmes With Apatow
Here’s an elementary bit of casting.
Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell are set to star as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the latest addition to the Judd Apatow canon, a comedy inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle’s tales of the brilliant snuff-sniffing sleuth and his reliable partner in crime-solving.
Tropic Thunder scribe Etan Cohen is penning the script for Columbia Pictures. Apatow and manager Jimmy Miller will produce.
“Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh,” studio copresident Matt Tolmach told Variety. “Sacha and Will are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet, and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious.”
The funnymen last acted togetherand memorably made out inTalladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, which earned them an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss.
Ferrell, who has very few sports left to skewer on the big screen, will return to theaters July 25 in the Apatow-produced Step Brothers, while Cohen is currently shooting Bruno, featuring the flamboyant Austrian fashion reporter character he cooked up for British television. Presuming no one goes on strike, Bruno is slated for a May 15, 2009 release.
Borat, Apatow Make Benefit Glorious Academy
They’d like to thank the Academy for letting them in. We’d like to thank the Academy for making Oscar voting a little more interesting.
The decreasingly staid Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has extended invitations to 105 stars, among them Sacha Baron Cohen, Judd Apatow, Marion Cotillard, Jet Li and Diablo Cody, to join the gilded class of 2008 as full-fledged voting members.
The invitees were selected for their “distinguished contributions to theatrical motion pictures,” and while most have either won or been nominated for Oscars, possession of a little golden man is not a prerequisite for an invite.
Being able to craft a timeless getting-laid joke, however, seems to be.
“These individuals are all incredibly talented and a credit to the world of filmmaking,” quotable AMPAS prez Sid Ganis said. “They exemplify the high standards of the Academy, and I welcome each and every one of them to our ranks.”
In addition to Borat & Co., second-generation thesp Josh Brolin, industry vet Ruby Dee, Allison Janney and Ray Winstone were among the actors passing Academy muster.
Directors Doug Liman, Kimberly Peirce, Walter Salles and Gore Verbinski rounded out the helming heavyweights, while screenwriters David Benioff, responsible for such disparate films as The Kite Runner and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Lars and the Real Girl’s Nancy Oliver and The Savages’ Tamara Jenkins joined the big-name pen-wielders on the list.
All who accept the honor and choose to become new Academy members will be welcomed at a reception in Beverly Hills come September.
