Kate Winslet Drops By Boss Black Show
Kate Winslet Drops By Boss Black Show
Looking as gorgeous as ever, Kate Winslet enjoyed a night out on Wednesday, sitting in the front row at a New York fashion showing.
The Titanic starlet was at the Cunard Building in lower Manhattan for an exclusive look at the 2008 creations for Boss Black, the most distinguished line produced by German fashion house Hugo Boss.
Joining in on the fun were fellow actresses Maggie Gyllenhaal, Julianne Moore and Kristin Davis, who all got stageside seats next to each other.
And after the well-received presentation, the girls were even treated to “models in French maids’ uniforms wheeling hors d’oeuvre-and-champagne-laden serving carts down the runway.”
Natalie Portman Cannes Do
Cannes is ready for its close-up. The 61st International Film Festival kicks off today and the celebs are pouring in to the French town for all the film-biz fabulousnessincluding jury member Natalie Portman, who looks like a kid arriving at camp. (The 26-year-old could make a killing endorsing antiaging products, um, if she wasn't so successful at this acting thing.)
Also milling around today are Sean Penn, who heads up the jury panel, Jack Black, promoting Kung Fu Panda, and Julianne Moore, who opened the film fest with her newest movie, Blindness.
And we love 'em all, but we're busy scanning the crowds for Brangelina, who we're assuming will show based on the simple fact that they already live in France. (Hey, it's just a limo ride away.) Plus, she has two movies playing in the festival, Kung Fu Panda and Clint Eastwood's Changeling. Seems like a sure thing, n'est-ce pas?
Children of Men: The series
Since it looks like Bionic Woman is not coming back to NBC, although nothing’s been confirmed, the executive producer is moving on. David Eick is writing a pilot based on the Alfonso Cuarón film Children of Men for SciFi.
The film, brilliantly directed by the Mexican filmmaker, was a grim tale about the future — England in 2027 — where women have become completely infertile and the human race faces a major crises with less than a century to survive.
At the SciFi Channel’s upfront, Eick said the proposed TV series would veer closer to the source material, P.D. James’ novel. “It’s really taking root more in the origins of the novels in that it will focus on the cultural movement in which young people become the society’s utter focus.”
Eick’s version of Children of Men will also not star Clive Owen, Julianne Moore nor Michael Caine, who were all in the 2006 feature film. The TV Children of Men is going to question how society defines responsibility, freedom and a sense of values when it doesn’t necessarily believe humans will survive as a species. “It’s not really a war show like the movie was. It’s more an exploration of that issue.”
Eick is also preparing Caprica, a prequel to Battlestar Galactica for SciFi.
New crop of characters for Desperate Housewives
The Desperate Housewives casting agents have been rather productive since the show resumed production last week. The question is will fans be happy when hearing their casting choices? The O.C.’s Chris Carmack, The West Wing’s Gary Cole and movie actress Julianne Moore will appear in the upcoming episodes of the series.
Spoilers about their roles after the jump!
TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello tells us that Chris Carmack will guest star as Tim. Carmack is best known for playing Luke Ward on The O.C.; on DH, he’ll play one of Susan’s cousins, who drops by Wisteria Lane to help the Delfinos with their taxes. To learn more about the role, check our Desperate Housewives spoilers page.
Ausiello also reports that Gary Cole was cast as Katherine Mayfair’s shady ex-husband. He will first show up in the April 20 episode and is said to be recurring for the rest of the season.
Finally, according to a TV reader, Access Hollywood reported today that Julianne Moore will appear in three episodes, including the season finale, as Bree’s sister.
Are you happy with these casting tidbits? Personally, even if Carmack is not my favorite actor, I think he’ll fit the role per what I’ve read of it so far. Cole will surely be able to portray Katherine’s supposedly abusive ex-husband. As for Moore, she has shown her acting skills in tons of movies and has the right hair color to play the part.
UPDATE: According to Michael Ausiello, Julianne More will not appear on the show.
