Amy Winehouse Rocks Paris Fashion Week

Amy Winehouse Rocks Paris Fashion Week

There are several sights one expects to see upon their arrival at Paris Fashion Week - beautiful people, avant-garde designs, Amy Winehouse???  Yes, Amy Winehouse entertained the crowd at the Fendi show last night.

The “Rehab” singer was said to be hand-picked by Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi’s “design-meister.” And Amy confessed she felt like a fish out of water.  “Forgive my ignorance, I don’t know anything about fashion,” she told the 600-person audience, including Jessica Alba, Kanye West, and Rihanna.

At one point in her show, Winehouse stated that she was, “really glad to be booked by Fendi because I was getting bored.”

She joked, “I’m available for bookings.  If anyone wants me for a wedding or a bar mitzvah. … Well maybe not a wedding. My music’s a little too heartbreak. For a wedding, you need something meeker.”

Rihanna’s Action-Packed Fashion Week

Rihanna’s Action-Packed Fashion Week

A staple at this year’s Paris Fashion Week, Rihanna kept taking in the latest styles by attending the John Galliano Fall-Winter exhibit on Saturday (March 1).

For the outing, the 20-year-old Barbados native wore “a stylish silver grey trench coat over a short black dress with a plunging neckline. The coat had three quarter bell sleeves revealing her ornamented wrists.”

To top off her look, the Umbrella singer also sported a Heart pendant around her neck with letters LOVE written on it, and carried a black Chanel satchel bag.

Meanwhile, the day before, Rihanna was busy at the Fendi store launch - posing with fellow A-lister Jessica Alba. The Grammy winner also visited Sonia Rykiel’s show, Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall-Winter 2008-2009 collection and the Swarovski party - where she performed a 20 minute show.

Linda Evangelista Biography

Linda Evangelista.jpg

Linda Evangelista (born May 10, 1965 in St. Catharines, Ontario) is a Canadian supermodel.

Linda was born to Italian parents and was raised in a working class, traditional Catholic family .[1] She is 5′9½” (1.77 m) tall and her natural hair colour is dark brown. She knew she wanted to become a model when she was 12 years old. She got into the modeling industry when she was discovered by a talent agent at the 1978 Miss Teen Niagara Contest. She later moved to New York City and signed with Elite Model Management there. She then moved to Paris, France to further her career. She has also appeared in music videos with George Michael.

Along with Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, Linda is regarded as one of the few, true supermodels that changed the face of fashion in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Evangelista is a part of the triumvirate of model friends that includes Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington. These three women were affectionately dubbed the “trinity” and are commonly credited as the ones responsible for sparking supermodel mania. The Trinity pushed for better wages for models and for better projects and subsequently Evangelista was called the founder of the supermodel “union”.

In the late-80s she chopped off all her hair into a little-boy style haircut and was promptly cancelled from all the important runway shows that season. This was the first of her many many dramatic hairstyle changes, and she revolutionized the industry. Models just didn’t have short hair until Linda did. Within months, she appeared on magazine covers everywhere, and women all over the world copied her hairstyle.

Evangelista is known as The Chameleon, both for her frequent hair changes (style, length and colour) and for the way she could transform in front of a camera. Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld once said of her, “There is not another model in the world as professional as she is.” He also said, when comparing models, that Evangelista was the “top of the tops.”

When she is not on the catwalk she is an advocate for AIDS and breast cancer awareness. In 1996 she won the VH1 Fashion Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. She has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto. In 2005 she was honored as a World Style Icon at the Women’s World Awards held in Germany.

Linda also plays the accordion, and was one of the few female cigar smokers, before she gave up smoking and drinking altogether.

Kylie Bax Biography

Kylie Bax was born January 5, 1975, in Thames, New Zealand. She grew up on her parents’ horse-breeding farm, a far cry from the New York/LA glamour girl she is today. Having inherited her mother’s genes (Kylie’s mum was a model in her day), Kylie was discovered in a New Zealand shopping mall by an agent from Clyne Model Management.

She discovered her modeling potential in New Zealand, but left for New York in order to make it big as a model. Kylie became Karl Lagerfeld’s protégée, as he convinced her to crop her hair short and dye it blonde. With her new “boyish looks” (yet still very feminine), Kylie went to study with Steven Meisel.
