Rumor: Josh Brolin to Play Snake Plissken in Escape From New York Remake

The curse of One-Eyed Willie…

UPDATE: The reader consensus seems to be 1) no, it’s not cool, this remake is utterly pointless and a disgrace, 2) where the hell will Snake “land the glider,” 3) Brolin is too old (not really understanding this one), 4) FTW, John Carpenter and Kurt Russell should team up to make Escape From Boston or Escape From Earth (good to see our readers’ idealism staying strong!).

This rumor is a wild red hair that sprouted from the pale leg of Spielberg News, but we’ll entertain it for now because it’s late at night, this remake is happening, and the casting would be pritty, pritty good. In a role that would nicely connect the eye-patched dots to his salad days on The Goonies, actor Josh Brolin is rumored to be the top contender to play dystopian, one-eyed rogue, Snake Plissken, in the planned remake of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York. Throughout the end of last year, Gerard Butler (300, The Game) was attached to Plissken, as were directors Brett Ratner (we coined it Escape From Brett Ratner) and Len Wisemen (Live Free or Die Censored), both of whom are no longer in the equation (thanks). This is how the site’s scoop translates from French to English…

“It is our scoop of the week. A source close to the production (if so) has assured us that it is now Josh Brolin to be in the running to take over the role of Snake Plissken in the remake currently in draft New York 1997.”

There are a lot of top actors taking on genre fare these days, but we’ve always been keen on Brolin for hypothetical franchise roles like Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake. Whereas the success of Butler’s casting as Plissken would be fully realized only by a really cool director, Brolin’s involvement, if it pans out, would give the remake unforseen cache. Though New Line is dismantled, the remake is purportedly going ahead, so we’ll update accordingly. Brolin will next be seen on screen this Fall as Dubbya (he botched a lay-up) in Oliver Stone’s W.

Kate Hudson’s Colorado Christmas

Kate Hudson’s Colorado Christmas

There’s nothing like the snow-capped mountains and a cup of hot cocoa to really usher in the holiday spirit.  And Kate Hudson and Kurt Russell seemed to be enjoying their surroundings as they stocked up on snow gear at Aspen Sports during their stay in Colorado.

Though she’s only been divorced since October of this year, the “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” actress seems to have her act together when it comes to running the house as a single mom.

A source close to Hudson told press that she likes to maintain a “hang out” policy for all of her friends at her house.  “There is a ‘hang-out’ house policy at Kate’s Hollywood home. She loves having people over. That way, Ryder is also less fazed if she has the occasional boyfriend over. Although she is always careful not to show affection for a guy in front of her son until she is very sure about the relationship.”

In a recent interview, Kate explained the painful lessons she learned from her divorce.  “Divorce was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life. The process of discovering that you no longer love somebody you once did is so painful. Thank goodness I went through it with Chris. We helped each other through it.”

Taking a break from promoting her new movie “Fool’s Gold”, Kate Hudson was in high spirits as she paid a visit to the sidelines of Super Bowl XLII on Sunday (February 3).

Accompanied by Kurt Russell, Hudson checked out the field with the Kraft family, who just so happen to own the New England Patriots.

“I’m with the Kraft family so I am going Patriots,” Hudson told People magazine, adding, “I’m very excited. For sure.”

And another thing that’s for sure - Kate, who was dubbed by Kurt as the Kraft’s “West Coast good luck charm”, is set on having a good time. She told press: “We don’t get to spend much time together. We’re having fun.”

Kate Hudson’s Dancing and Legal Ambitions

Kate Hudson’s Dancing and Legal Ambitions

Wearing what appears to be a t-shirt as a dress, actress Kate Hudson was spotted as she left her ballet class in Pacific Palisades this morning (February 19).

Along with keeping up on her dance moves, the Fool’s Gold actress has called for a US law to make it illegal for paparazzi to photograph celebrities’ children without prior consent.

Of the matter, Kate told press: “It bothers me, it bothers my parents (Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell). Ryder doesn’t know what that is. He’s four years old.”

Hudson adds: “It’s aggressive, it’s bizarre and it makes him self-conscious. And kids should always be kids, they should never be self-conscious of what they’re doing. That should be illegal.”
