Who Will Be The Next Spider-Man: Patrick Fugit, Michael Angarano?

In the past few weeks we’ve heard mumblings that Sony had renewed their option to make Spider-Man movies, and internet rumors of preliminary plans to shoot Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5, back-to-back.
Now comes word via LatinoReview that Patrick Fugit is the top name in the running to replace Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. Now of course, no contracts have been signed, and the films have not even been officially greenlit (at least from a public perspective), so in other words - nothing is final. You probably recognize Fugit from his breakout performance in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous, or some of his indie work which has included Saved, Spun, and Wristcutters.
And if Fugit doesn’t work out, Michael Angarano is also said to be on the list of candidates. Angarano was most recently seen in Forbidden Kingdom,
was in the superhero film Sky High, and even tried out for the now defunct Justice League movie. And while I’m not against the idea of going younger for the role, I just don’t see Angarano as Peter Parker.
I’m kinda surprised Shia LaBeouf’s name isn’t being mentioned. Some of you might also be wondering: if you’re going to go older, why not just go with Jake Gyllenhaal? Unfortunately Jake will be tied up for the foreseeable future with the big screen adaptation of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
Jake Gyllenhaal is the Prince of Persia
LatinoReview, who broke the news back in early April. Week after week, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety create story based off of tips that appear on the internet movie websites, yet disrespect the same websites by not giving out proper credit mention. How unprofessional.
Marvel Wants Brad Pitt for Thor?

Our friends at LatinoReview are reporting that Marvel wants Brad Pitt for the upcoming big screen adaptation of Thor. Let’s face it, isn’t Brad Pitt on every project’s preliminary casting lists for dream stars? Of course, no offer has been made to the star, and when one is, I doubt he would actually be interested (but you never know with these Iron Man $$$ numbers). Would Pitt make a good Thor? You certainly need someone with acting skills to pull off this role. The old school approach of casting a muscular model-like actor like Arnold could only result in an extremely cheesy film.

Brendan Fraser and The Rock in GI Joe?

LatinoReview is reporting that Brendan Fraser has filmed a cameo appearance for G.I. Joe. Fraser plays Gung Ho, a Village People-looking soldier from the toyline, during a training sequence in The Pit. If it was anything more than a cameo, I’d seriously question the logic behind this decision, as the actor hardly looks anything like the actor.

Also, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has apparently been offered the role of the Latino Navy SEAL named Shipwreck. And yes, The Rock is Samoan, so this makes perfect sense. But I’ve learned to stop questioning the logic behind this movie long ago…
Both actors have previous ties to filmmaker Stephen Sommers, who directed Frazer in The Mummy and The Rock in The Mummy Returns. So politically it makes sense, even though it doesn’t make sense for the characters or source material. I mean, who cares about the characters or source material anyway?
GI Joe will hit theaters on August 7th 2009.
