Catching Up with Dave Annable

Dave Annable

Hooray for slow summer TV news days! It gives me the excuse to post a pretty picture of Dave Annable and share with you a recent chat we had at the St. Jude’s Scrabble charity fundraiser.

Click in for his answers about Justin and Rebecca, the newest Walker and the endless influx of “hot dudes” to the show.

We hear there’s gonna be a new brother on the show. What can you tell us?
Yes, there is. We don’t know who that is. They haven’t started casting yet. It certainly hasn’t been in any of the scripts we’ve been shooting so far, so I’m just curious.

Do they need to find someone similar-looking to the rest of you?
Yeah, I guess. They’ve done pretty well so far. We keep joking they just keep bringing in more hot dudes to our show. And we’re like OK, we get it, but it hurts us, it hurts us.

Poor thing! Hopefully they will up the hot-girl quota, too?
I keep saying Justin should go back to college and join a sorority [laughs].

And we hear Eric Christian Olsen has just been cast?
Oh, really? I didn’t know. I think he’s a great actor, and we’d be lucky to have him.

What do you think is going to happen with Justin and Rebecca?
They had that smooch, but they still have a tough path ahead of them. It doesn’t mean they’re just going to jump into a relationship. They have a lot of stuff to figure out, and they’ve been through a lot of stuff.

Brothers & Sisters has a lot of life lessons, really…
Yeah, I think there would be a lot more curse words in real life, but you learn a lot, definitely!

Judd Apatow’s Funny People

Judd Apatow’s Funny People

Judd Apatow’s untitled Stand-up comedy film now has a title - Funny People. Jason Schwartzman and Jonah Hill have also joined the already announced cast which includes Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann and Eric Bana.

So what is it about? Well details are being kept under wraps, but we do know that i is set in the world of standup comedy and that they story will focus on a comedian who has a near-death experience. Apatow and cast members have also commented on how the film has a more dramatic edge than Apatow’s previous efforts, 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up. And the word Dramedy has been floating around, although the stars insist that the script is filled with laughs.

The ensemble cast is really beginning to take shape. Schwartzman is always great when used to his strengths as the eccentric lovable loser trying to take on the world. And I think pretty much everyone expected that Hill would be involved. But the real question is: will Apatow be able to tame Sandler? I hope so, because I don’t think anyone really wants “just another Adam Sandler comedy”, especially with Apatow at the helm. Funny People will hit theaters in Summer 2009.

Britney Spears Is Still Lookin’ To Party

Britney Spears Is Still Lookin’ To Party

As reported previously by the , Britney Spears spent last evening at the local jail being booked for hit and run charges.

Stemming from an August 6th run-in with a parked car, the troubled pop tart will reportedly be in court on October 26th for the incident, just one day after a scheduled custody hearing.

After leaving the Van Nuys County Jail, the Gimme More singer took a few moments to talk with a CBS reporter, but had little to say besides “Where’s the party?”

The exchange between the two is as follows:

How did it go?

“Amazing.”

What was the experience like?

“They were nice. They were really nice.”

Do you feel relieved?

“Yeah.”

What are you guys doing tonight?

“Where’s the party at?” [laughs]

Any plans for Halloween?

“Not yet.”

No outfits for the kids?

“Um, not yet.”

Andre Braugher joins Ray Romano pilot

Andre BraugherBack in April, Allison reported that Ray Romano was working on a pilot for TNT. Romano is playing the lead, and now Andre Braugher has been added to the cast of Men of a Certain Age. The series, a dramedy along the lines of Sideways, focuses on lives of three middle-aged friends. Braugher will play Owen, a car salesman and family man. Ray Romano and Mike Royce (Everybody Loves Raymond) are writing and producing the show together.

I’ve been an Andre Braugher fan since Homicide: Life on the Street, and I’m excited to see him get a promising role like this. Braugher is more of a dramatic actor, but he’s definitely capable of getting some laughs. No word yet on who’s playing the third friend. The character has been described as an aspiring actor.

Men of a Certain Age was originally created for HBO and found a home at TNT after HBO passed on it. This move might turn out to be a positive thing for the series. TNT has some solid, popular dramas, and Romano’s pilot would fit right in. If the show is less like a sitcom and more like the grown-up comedy I’m expecting, I’ll be sure to give it a chance.
