Light it up: FX gives OK to Rescue Me renewal

Denis Leary on FX’s Rescue Me.
After much speculation following the end of Rescue Me’s well intentioned, but flaky fourth season, FX has given the green-light for a fifth season renewal of 22 episodes. This marks the second FX drama to receive a network length renewal versus the standard cable renewal of 13 episodes. The fifth season of Nip/Tuck first received the nod for 22 last year.

While I’m a huge fan of this show, the non-direction that the fourth season took does have me a little worried about where it can go for 22 episodes in a new season. Although, this might be helped by the fact that FX plans to split the season into two parts. It wouldn’t surprise me if the split leads to the second half being billed as season six, which happened with The Shield’s fifth and sixth seasons.

Plus there’s still the question about Andrea Roth — will she be back full time or will she focus more on Lost? No matter how you look at this it’s still good news though. Now Leary can hopefully wrap the show up with a proper ending.

Matthew Fox’s Life Lessons

Matthew Fox, Men’s Health Magazine

In the new action flick Speed Racer, zooming into theaters May 9, Matthew Fox certainly holds his own on the track as the titular character's rival Racer X.

But does the actor have what it takes to really put the pedal to the metal?

Sure enough, in the latest Men's Health, Matthew is taken to task to see if the real-life novice can master the race-car prowess he so eloquently displays on screen.

In doing so, the Lost star also digs pretty deep on a number of issues and, subsequently, reveals a lot about himself along the way: "My wife and I have very intense fights, but they're over in 10 minutes," says Matthew. "We don't hold on to stuff. Life's too short for that."

The enlightened actor continues, "The more you're conscious of this, the easier it is to reach across the aisle and say, 'I'm sorry we got here. What are you seeing? How can we fix this?'"

A discussion about the importance of family leads Matthew to reveal that his "father was hard on me in a positive way. There's a fine line between demanding and abusive. If he was demanding of me, he demanded that much more from himself."

And when conversing about the importance of having a sense of perspective, he states, "It's amazing how many people walk around in this world thinking their way is the right way and the only way. That's pretty dangerous and pretty unforgivable."

Indeed.

International Hellboy 2 Character Posters

Hellboy International Posters

BadTaste.it has two new international movie posters for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. One of the character posters features Prince Nuada (Luke Goss), the other, the Angel of Death (Doug Jones). Click on the photo above to see the images slightly larger. I’m surprised that the U.S. character banners don’t feature any of the more visually interesting characters introduced in this new film, sticking to the three main leads: Hellboy, Liz and Abe Sapien. Hellboy 2 hits theaters in the States on July 11th 2008.
