Peter Parker Could Have Been In The Incredible Hulk!

We’ve been hearing rumours of a possible Captain America cameo in The Incredible Hulk recently (apparently its nothing more than serum), but one we haven’t heard of before is that fellow Marvel character Peter Parker could also have been in The Incredible Hulk.

Marvel are doing the cool thing of crossing characters over films, we’ve seen Captain America’s shield in Iron Man, then we will see Tony Stark in Hulk and now director Louis Leterrier revealed to MTV information on another interesting cameo…that didn’t happen…

“The University at the end [where Banner meets with Samuel Sterns] is Columbia University. Columbia University in the Marvel world, especially in the ‘Spider Man’ world, is Empire State University,” the director explained. “I wanted some kind of shot where you’re like, ‘Oh my god. Is that Peter Parker?’ That would have been fun!”

Unfortunately for Leterrier, crossovers begin and end with the properties Marvel has total control of – no matter how hard you ask. And “Spider-Man” all its many names, places, and stories therein, belong to Sony. But while he quickly realized that he wouldn’t be able to get Tobey Maguire (no matter how much he wanted to), Leterrier thought a compromise could be reached. No dice, he sighed.

“I just wanted to call it Empire University – to treat it like a coherent world,” he recalled. “And Sony, who has the rights to Spidey, didn’t want us to do that. It was a small thing but something we couldn’t do.”

Still, Leterrier is such a fan of comics, and the new combined Marvel universe in particular, he’s already jealous of the director who one day, he knows, will get to do what he couldn’t.

“Marvel is pretty good at doing their own movies and so eventually the studios will allow them to chaperone the production of [all of them],” he said. “Years from now you’ll see Peter Parker meeting Bruce Banner.”

BET gets its own Marvel cartoon

Marvel Comics’ Black PantherThe Marvel Comics character Black Panther is getting his own animated show on the BET network. This was announced during the BET upfront presentation in New York for the 2008-2009 season.

The character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (who co-created most of the classic Marvel Comics line up) and first appeared in Fantastic Four #52 in 1966. The character’s real name is T’Challa and he is the ruler of a fictional African country called Wakanda. His name predates the existence of the Black Panther Party.

There have been a few attempts to bring the character to the movie screen, one in particular in the early 1990’s starring Wesley Snipes. In 2007, Marvel announced that a film based on the character was on its movie development slate.

He’s a minor character as far as the Marvel universe goes, but he is the most visible black superhero they have. He has appeared in several other animated Marvel television shows before, but not in a main role.

Marvel Studios and Brian K. Vaughan Developing Runaways Movie

RunawaysI knew it was going to happen eventually, Marvel Studios has announced that they will be brining Brian K Vaughn’s Runaways to the big screen. Vaughn, best known for the critically acclaimed Y: The Last Man Series (also in some stage of development with DJ Caruso and possibly starring Shia LaBeouf), created Runaways in 2002 with Adrian Alphona, and is also penning the screenplay. It should be noted that Vaughn is also a co-producer and writer for LOST.

The series follows a group of teenagers discover that their parents are an organized group of super villains called The Pride. On the run from their homes, the group bands together and begin a journey of discovery, both of their parents’ origins and of their own inherited powers.

Unlike most other books in the Marvel universe, the individual Runaways story arcs are collected in small, manga-sized trade paperbacks. In 2006, the series won the Harvey Award for best continuing/limited series. Geek god Joss Whedon, a vocal fan of the book, took over the series after Vaughan and Alphona left at issue #24 of the title’s second volume.

Marvel is not ready to set a date for this latest adaptation or the previously announced Ant Man.

New Incredible Hulk Photo Reveals Captain America’s Origin

New Incredible Hulk Photo Reveals Captain America’s Origin

Universal has released a new batch of photos from The Incredible Hulk. The photo above is significant because it’s our first look at the super serum that will be (or was) used to create the superhero known as Captain America. Apparently in the film, William Hurt’s General Thunderbolt Ross tells Tim Roth’s Emil Blonsky about a weapons program initiated during World War II to create a “super soldier” before giving him the injection.

Earlier this weekend, Captain America’s shield was spotted on Tony Stark’s workbench. You gotta love how the Marvel Universe is now working in unity on the big screen. More photos.
