Spied: Gwen & Gavin Wind It Up at Wimbledon

Gavin Rossdale, Gwen Stefani

There’s no doubt Roger Federer had some serious star power on his side during Sunday’s Wimbledon finals.

But even with the support of “Sweet Escape” singer Gwen Stefani and her husband, Gavin Rossdale, the Swiss tennis ace still couldn’t, well, escape losing to Spain’s Rafael Nadal during the marathon match.

While Federer probably doesn’t consider his famous friends to be bad luck, we wouldn’t blame him if he secretly hopes they become too preoccupied with their soon-to-be newborn baby to attend next month’s U.S. Open.

Victoria Beckham and Kate Beckinsale Hit the Rink

Victoria Beckham and Kate Beckinsale Hit the Rink

There’s nothing like a relaxing Sunday afternoon out with the kiddies.  And yesterday, Victoria Beckham took her boys to the local rink for a little time on the ice.

The former Spice Girl was joined by gal pal Kate Beckinsale, who also brought along her husband Len Wiseman and daughter Lily to enjoy the chilling fun.

Posh has been trying out a new look as of late, wearing what appears to be a pair of her hubby David Beckham’s jeans cinched to her waistline with a thick leather belt.  She completed her look with a black v-neckline button-up vest.

Speaking of David, he was off tending to his multi-million-dollar duties with his team LA Galaxy as they traveled to our nation’s capital city for a match with DC United.

Hirsch Needs Speed Eraser for His Wardrobe

Emile Hirsch

Maybe Speed Racer star Emile Hirsch misunderstood the memo about how everybody who was anybody on the C-list was tying the knot this weekend (see Chris Kattan and Ruben Studdard items below).

Or maybe he had some crazy idea that his clothing should match the period of the architecture, which, since he was sightseeing in Paris’ Place Vendôme with a couple of gal-pals, is decidedly old school. How else to explain the oversize silk bow tie and shiny silver suit?

Très lawn jockey, non?

Hey ESPN, I really hate your Wimbledon scoreboard

Andy RoddickAs longtime readers of TV probably know, I’m a tennis fanatic. I hate summer with a passion, but I’m happy for the season during four weeks: the two weeks of Wimbledon (late June/early July) and the two weeks of the U.S. Open (late August/early September). If you need me those two weeks, I’ll be in front of my TV and a fan, drinking cold liquids.

Of course, it’s not all popcorn and roses. There’s something that really irritates me about ESPN’s coverage of Wimbledon that’s going on right now, and I see it every single time I look at the screen (which I find you have to do if you want to watch the matches). It’s that damn scoreboard at the top of the screen.

Now, usually, TV networks show a tennis score like this during the match:

Federer 4 5 4
*Roddick 6 7 5
30-15

(Yes, that’s right, Roddick is serving for a straight set victory over Federer. This would never happen in real life.)

That’s pretty easy to follow, settled into the lower right or left hand corner of the TV screen, the asterik denoting who is serving. But here’s what we have to put up with ESPN, placed at the top of the screen:

1 Federer >6 Roddick 30-15 4-6, 5-7, 4-5

Huh?

Sure, you figure it out after a while (everything is read left to right), but after 20 years of the networks doing it a certain way, it’s still not easy. I think the mind of the tennis fan is designed to process the score in a certain way. Just give us the scores next to the players names so we don’t have to look on each side and line things up in our minds. I assume ESPN wants more room for their scroll at the bottom of the screen, but I really think they should go back to the old way of doing it, even if they don’t have the score on the screen non-stop.

Even Andy doesn’t like it. I mean, look at him in the pic looking up at the top of the screen thinking “that’s really bothering me.”

I really hope USA Network doesn’t adopt this when the U.S. Open starts.
