The fashion of Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl
Every TV season, there is at least one scripted show in which clothes characters wear almost become as important as the characters themselves. I remember when Sex and the City was still offering fresh episodes and I was writing spoilers about the series, some of my readers emailed me asking for information and set pictures of what the ladies would be wearing in upcoming episodes. I received the same type of emails when The O.C. was on the air: fans wanted to know what Marissa and Summer would be wearing so they could try to find the clothes in stores. That information was almost as critical to them as knowing if Marissa and Ryan would hook/break up!

This year, a few series tried to be fashionable such as Lipstick Jungle, which had a partnership with Maybelline and even offered fashion tips during commercial breaks and on the show’s website. However, when I surf the web on general TV websites and boards, the fashion talks seem to be directed more towards one show: Gossip Girl.

On this CW series, about teens from the Upper East Side, fashion is important business. Imagine the drama if Blair showed up wearing clothes bought at Wal-Mart! The horror! Her life would be over and her mother, a fashion designer, would surely disown her on the spot. The show’s official website even has a fashion section sponsored by Old Navy to tell teens where to shop and what to buy in order to be as fashionable as their favorite characters.

Gossip GirlKnowing the importance of fashion on Gossip Girl, AOL decided to take a closer look at the clothes the characters wear and came up with a hits and misses list. This list, filled with pictures of the GG fashion, offers comments about various styles seen on the show from uniforms to evening wear. For example, AOL deemed the mother and daughter look, on the right, as one of the worst. I must agree. What was Eleanor thinking?! Some of the styles shown in that gallery are really nice while others are so ugly that they may cause nightmares. So beware!

Do you think AOL got it right in its Gossip Girl fashion hits & misses gallery? What’s your favorite and least favorite GG look?

Gossip Girl returns this Monday with fresh episodes.

Josie Maran (born Johanna Selhorst Maran on May 8, 1978) is an American fashion model and actress. She is also well known for her association with cosmetics company Maybelline.

Maran was born in Menlo Park, California to a father of Russian and Polish descent and a mother of Dutch, French and German ancestry. She began modeling part-time after an agent spotted her at a local barbecue restaurant at the age of 12. Maran continued a more dedicated career after graduating from Castilleja School. In 1999 she landed a multiyear deal with Maybelline following in the footsteps of Christy Turlington, her idol.

In addition to her thriving modeling career, Maran began an acting career in 2001 with a star turn as title character Mallory in an independent film, The Mallory Effect. She continued to take on roles, in 2004 landing film roles as a French model in Little Black Book and as one of Dracula’s brides in Van Helsing.

In 2005, she was recruited by EA Games to appear as a main character in the street-racing computer and video game, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which was released on November 17, 2005. She plays the game’s second lead Mia Townsend, who guides the lead character through the game.

A January 2006 Shape Magazine interview with Josie has revealed that she has quit modelling and acting and is now happily living in Hawaii teaching children. She has also started doing yoga, eating organic foods, and has quit smoking.

Adriana Lima Biography

Adriana Lima Biography.jpg

Adriana Francesca Lima (born June 12, 1981 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil) is a Brazilian supermodel, best known as one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels.

Adriana Lima rose to stardom out of less than glamorous conditions. Lima was discovered while shopping at a local mall at the age of 13. At the age of 15, she finished 1st place in a Ford Supermodel of Brazil model search. Lima later followed with a 2nd place finish in the 1996 Ford Supermodel of the World contest.

Shortly after, Lima moved to New York City, and eventually moved on from Ford, signing with Elite Model Management. Her early career consisted mostly of fashion editorial work (with early appearances in international editions of Vogue and Marie Claire in 1997/1998), as well as runway work (Christian Lacroix, Valentino, and others). Lima’s first big break came when she was featured in a Vassarette billboard in Times Square. Her print career followed, and like many other famous names (Claudia Schiffer, Laetitia Casta, Eva Herzigova), Lima became a GUESS? Girl in their 2000 Costanoa campaign.

Lima continued to build upon her entry, doing more print work (Maybelline, bebe, Mossimo, BCBG) and gracing the cover and editorials of more high fashion magazines (Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE). Probably best known for her Victoria’s Secret work and Angel status (along with Heidi Klum and Gisele), Lima first graced the VS runway in 2000, and was the show opener for the 2003 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

In 2001 Adriana Lima starred in BMW Films short, “The Follow” alongside actors Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, and Forest Whitaker. In the film, Owen’s character is hired to follow Lima’s, who is suspected of cheating on her famous husband, played by Rourke. The film had a runtime of 8:47 including credits, was written by Andrew Kevin Walker, and directed by Wong Kar-Wai.

Lima is currently represented by New York’s DNA Models.
